Waffle House Shooting (Good Guy Wins)

"Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty... For tonight, we dine in hell!"

I haven't been on these forums (or any other) long enough to easily spot a troll if there was one. What's a good sign of one?

The name calling and all did go a little far though.

Trolls start BS threads, they beat dead horses they show up w/ absolutely stupid questions ( EX "Would you sell a gun to a known felon?" or "I know carrying a gun in illinois is illegal but how can I get away with it") they also engage in name calling rather than reasoned debate.

problem is only 2 admins/mods to oversee stuff...and possibly a lack of reporting as to why less people are booted/dealt with. i'm a mod on a forum of 50k+ members and we've got 11 mods and the site admin.

Gotcha. Those example questions or threads would certainly be a possible flag.

I don't see the problem. If you don't like what people say then block them, no one is forcing you to read it, no one is forcing you to reply. I personally have several people that I have ignored and I'm sure I am on the list of a few people. I am ok with that.

I think admins are doing a great job.

It is funny that on a site that promotes the second amendment you would promote the ban hammer for those that are using their first amendment. I'm not big on babysitting or being babysat.

there's a point when it starts to hurt the image and quality of the site. someone being an ass and you duck behind an ignore list is like running out the back door to not give a statement to the police...

Ignoring one out of dozens is more of walking with your friends and stepping over the dog turd and moving on instead of stomping on it and repeatedly holding it up to your nose for a closer examination.

and eventually those turds start to pile up and you cant step anywhere w/o getting onto one.

Actually, the only person who said anything about ducking out the back door to avoid making a statement to cops, and then reiterated it even more forcefully when I asked him/her about it, is now on my ignore list for that very reason. I have nothing else to learn from a person so severely lacking a sense of social responsibility.

As far as this thread goes, I lean towards the I'd-have-acted-similarly-as-the-CC'er side of the discussion, but I understand the position that says it isn't their duty or business to get involved unless their own lives are being threatened. Arguing here about it won't change those folks into something they're not, any more than it will make me into someone who sits on his hands when innocents are being threatened, so I haven't argued the point, but I have been following the thread.

I try not to engage in name-calling and so forth. I slip every now and again, I admit. I'll argue/debate my position(s) directly and unapologetically, maybe a bit of sarcasm here and there, but name-calling and obvious anger seem out of place to me on an internet forum in general, and on a gun forum dedicated to the subject of concealed carry more specifically.

That said, some of the name-calling, anger and sarcastic dismissiveness in this thread has been kind of entertaining. I admit also, I enjoy a few guilty pleasures. Link Removed

my point was that if the posts and blatant trolls never get reported, they will continue b/c more than likely the 2 admins will never see it.

I'm sorry, I just replied to what you said. I had no idea you were thinking something completely different. Link Removed

Then again, who are the "blatant trolls" in this thread, the ones who agree with the actions of the CC'er in the OP and got angry and called names to people who disagreed, or the ones who disagreed with the CC'er in the OP and got angry and called names to people who disagreed with their position(s)?

I'm fine with little to no moderation. If it gets too crazy, I'll quit following the thread. It's not like I'll miss anything but a shootout between keyboard commandos anyway. By the time the responses boil down to "you're a troll" and "no, you're a troll," it's pretty much over anyway. At least most of the crap in this thread had a little creativity in the insults being exchanged. And whether Warbirds is considered by you or anyone else a troll or not, I agree wholeheartedly with him that I don't need to be babysat, nor do I need anybody else babysat so I'll be protected from their words. Relax. Even Thunder Dome had some entertaining moments.

A customer, Justin Michael Harrison, 22, of Boiling Springs thwarted the robbery by pulling his gun and attempting to hold the men until deputies arrived. Deputies said Dante Lamont Williams, 19, pointed his gun at Harrison, who is a concealed weapons permit holder. Harrison shot Williams in the head and chest.

Craig attempted to leave and Harrison tried to block his path. A struggle ensued, and Craig grabbed for Harrison's weapon and Harrison fired one shot in an effort to make the suspect take his hands off of the gun, according to the news release.

Wow....so much fail here on this guy's part. It's now obvious he was trying to stop and hold the suspects rather than defending lives. Why does it always seem to be some young 20 something kid who's doing this stuff lately? I presume the usual forum posters are still on his side though.....

Yep, I'm on his side as well.

I'm guessing that you probably wouldn't be if the round that was fired off during the struggle while the 22 year old young man was trying to do the job of the police had hit you or someone you care about. Total fail by the ccw holder.....

That's true and there are always "what if's and remember dead men can't sue. If you are worried about a law suit why carry in the first place? Would you rather be judged by 12 or carried by 6?
Dead men's family can still sue in some states. But it's tough for them to get a jury to vote in favor of the criminal. Most people would vote against a violent perp.
