Dogs

I was out for a walk one evening when the neighbor's TOY Pom ran up t the fence, stuck its head through the chain link fence (diamond-shaped hole) and began barking at me. One of the funniest things I'd ever seen.

Now that is small.

Sorry to hear about Elwood, JJ. We have 2 - A chocolate lab named "Emily Pearl", who'll be 10 on December 7th, and a 2-year 0ld Maltese named "Doc" (wife's dog), who's built like a little fire plug and has a really great personality. I think, though, after Em leaves us, I'd probably replace her with a Rottie, Boxer or Pit...something that can provide my Lovely Bride with a higher level of personal protection if needed in my absence.

For those of you that are cat lovers there was a house on the south side back in the 70's that had a lion in the yard. Sometimes when I would drive by it would be lying of the porch. I don't think the fence would have kept it in if it wanted out bad enough. I doubt they got to many solicitors. Not sure what ever happened to it. The city probably made them get rid of it.

HK, I only love the "small" cats. When "big" cats look at people, they see us lying on a plate with an apple in our mouth. :sarcastic:

What's a "small" cat? The only cat I ever owned was an orange tabby that I had in Jr. High and High School. I don't remember ever weighing him, but my hand is 4" across the knuckles and I could lay my hand between his ears, scratch the short hairs on his nose, and not move either of his ears. He wasn't a roly-poly kitty, either.

I have some pictures of my niece out west with a neighbor's cats...
I won't put the niece's most recent pictures here, but I can put the neighbor's web page with one of their cats on it... Link Removed

Added a picture of Gypsy:

Appreciate that, Ektarr. Man, I blubbered off and on for 3 days; those big soft brown eyes looking at me...My business partner (a woman) finally said something to the effect of "get over it" and "you weren't this bad when your Mom died" and I snarled that I didn't run over Mom with my pickup either. I'm a big softy, for babies and puppies anyway, so it was bit traumatic.

JJ before my daughter was married and still living at home we had to have her lab put down. She couldn't bring herself to be in there when the vet did it so I stayed with the lab. It broke my heart not only to watch that dog slip away but also to know that my little girls heart was breaking. Sense that time I have had to have my beloved king Charles and a stray dog that we rescued off the street also put down. It never gets any easier. In fact because of the heart break of having to go through that three times I said for a while I would not have another dog. But then this Pom found us. So yes I know where you are coming from.

man hk4u thats sad. never an easy thing to do. i like to think of myself as a hard ass, but when it comes to my animals its not an easy thing to take. seen many a man cry over the loss of a pet. i myself have shed a few tears over losing animals. nice to see that a loving pet found you and a good home!

One Rottweiler and one Border Terror oops... Terrier. Have had Rotties since '82. The BT is our first little dog. Very entertaining. A big dog in a little body.14lbs. of tenacious K9.
Likes to lay on the back rest of the couch just like cats do. Right CW? Just like.

Too funny CapGun - I know where you're coming from. I always say I have a Scottish Terror.

Had a wolf/sheppard mix when I first started dating my wife. Once we got married, she said no big dogs, She wanted a Scotty so we got one to keep her happy (aint love grand?)...on one condition. No way was some cutsie-pootsie yippie little dog riding in my truck.

I've since learned that Scotty's are BIG dogs that don't eat a lot. They're fearless and they sound about about 70 pounds heavier from the other side of the fence. We're on our third Scotty. I wouldn't have any other breed. And yes, they ride in my truck :sarcastic:

I wish I could have a dog....
My wife says no big dogs, I can't stand the little ones.
She thinks a Lab is a HUGE dog, I think they're kinda small.

Dude, you're looking at it all wrong. Check out any of the terriers. Then think of them like a Kimber Ultra CDP or Springfield EMP. You know, full size gun in a concealable package

Sorry, let me clarify. I stepped on a terrier while it was pretending it was a real dog. Broke it's leg, Bone entered lung. Pretending dog died. I was NINE.

I'm sorry to hear that wolfhunter. It's always tough to lose a pet. Worse yet when you're a kid. I meant no offense.

Thanks. Wasn't my dog, but I still don't much care for little moving things around my feet.

We have a little dog too, a Wiener. She gets stepped on every now and again. Likes to hang out right by your feet. Drives me nuts. You trip on her, she yipes, you feel bad. And my wife wants a Chihuahua. I am not a fan of them for the same reason as the Wiener. Too little and to fragile. I have a Border Collie. I have had 3 of them in the past. All rescues. Our current Border was one I was arguing was not a Border until I looked it up. She is a Blonde (or Sable) Border.

Our chihuahua is VERY adept at getting the heck out of the way. Now, the puppy, on the other hand, has caused me to stumble and fall twice in the week I've had him, to avoid stepping on his little ass. It's only gonna take one time, I suspect, since I weigh about 300 lbs, and he'll learn to get out of the way, too!

So you did it for love. Do they bark with that great Scottish accent?
I definitely advise Dude to look into the Border Terrier. They even look like mutts but they aren't. It really is a big dog in disguise. You should have a fence though. They will go after anytghing from squirrels to bears!
HardCorps, glad you are alive and well. Barry H O would have you .... HardCorpse dead! After all he did refer to the Corpse men twice. The press just ignored it. Imagine if Bush said that. For that matter if any non dem called them corpse men in stead of Corps men!

Our Dogs

We have a Black Lab and a large Retriever/Deer Hound in our home. The Lab thinks that he is the Alpha male in the entire neighborhood. He likes most people, just not many other dogs.
