Trying to neuter the law over this manufactured incident would be political suicide in this state. The law is doing exactly what it was intended to do, forcing the State to investigate instead of allowing for a politically motivated arrest to appease the ignorant and unwashed.
 
Heres mine, I did not take the time to read everyones posts.......I think this is a complete and utterly f**ked deal here. I believe the Zimmerman fella was in the wrong for tailing him. Kid got shot for a reason. Man feared for his life, good shoot or bad shoot either way, kids dead.......no one seems to know everything that happened, yet the liberal media is playing this like ray charles on a piano. This is the major upswing in a race movement, that will set into action, the trials on our pro gun laws that we currently have. They will from now on, look at any shooting, be it CLEAR or not it was justified. Every man and woman that carries a gun, is now nationally despised even more for this shooting. Al Sharpton is a ********* moron, where is the mass media for the black on white crime?????? This is nothing more than a double standard, had the kid been white, and Zimmerman black, this ****** wouldnt even be a blip on the radar.
 
Well, I guess it was inevitable. It's nothing to write home about, nor is it even minimally informative, but George Zimmerman has opened a website to take donations for his legal defense fund and to help cover living expenses while he's in hiding, which, unless someone grows a set of stones stout enough to go after the Black Panthers in a consequential way, he will remain in hiding for...well...forever. That's going to get pretty expensive!

I can't say with feeling that there's anything "wrong" with this new wrinkle in the story, but after reading what little is there, I gotta say it just don't feel right to me. Maybe he's a web-designer neophyte and it will develop into something that doesn't creep me out like it does a little right now. I don't know, but I heard on the radio that he opened it and found it easy enough in a search, and thought y'all might be interested, so there ya go.

Yes I just watched his lawyer withdraw because of the web site. Not sure how this is going t play out but he says people are raising money for his defense but he is getting nothing.
 
My opinion is to wait for all the evidence to be released before making up our minds. If hypothetically speaking, all the evidence has already been released, then based on what I know now my opinon would be - probably a good shoot.

I still disagree. Once the State Attorney decides not to prosecute on grounds that Stand Your Ground applies, the person is "immune" to criminal charges AND civil charges. That "immune" is the key word, and is why the Martin families lawyer insists Zimmerman be arrested. If he isn't, then they have little chance of gaining a civil suit.

"776.032 Immunity from criminal prosecution and civil action for justifiable use of force.—

(1) A person who uses force as permitted in s. 776.012, s. 776.013, or s. 776.031 is justified in using such force and is immune from criminal prosecution and civil action for the use of such force, unless the person against whom force was used is a law enforcement officer, as defined in s. 943.10(14)"

I've got a quarter on Zimmerman killing himself.

If we as gun owners learn nothing else from this case, it's that dropping the hammer on someone is only the beginning. I know that the majority of SD shootings don't go as far south as this one has appeared to. But they can go bad, even if you "win" the initial encounter.
 
Haven't found a link yet, but Megyn Kelly just reported that the Washington Post is reporting that Zimmerman will be charged. No details of charge yet. WAPO cites a "law enforcement" source. Here we go.....

He's a nightmare for a defense attorney. He should say and do nothing without the advice of his attorney. It's the innocent who need a lawyer. Let the guilty lie for themselves.
 
We can just read and/or watch what the next episode will be...in the meantime, what happened to the Black Panther's announcement that they do some stupid stuff last Monday? I warned my friends over at Florida and their actions seems to fizzled off...???

I totally agree. It might seem my participation in this thread has been sympathetic to Zimmerman. That has not been my intent. I have tried to be adherent to fairness, the rule of law, and accuracy in both reporting by the media, and relaying by members here of what they hear/read of the known facts. Zimmerman himself has not been the focus of much of what I've had to say.

A quote comes to mind that has been attributed to everyone from Abraham Lincoln to Confucius to Mark Twain to The Bible, but it rings true for Zimmerman as he prepares to become a bonafide defendant rather than just a run-of-the-mill pariah in the eyes of the public and media:

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

My understanding is that an autopsy and drug screening were performed on Martin's body. It has been reported that the drug screen was negative (no drugs present). I'm sure it will come out in court whether or not that report is/was accurate.

Besides the English language, who (or what) have the Black Panthers "shown up to kill" and why would anyone just lay down and enjoy it?

ETA: The lawyers among us can comment more intelligently than I on this, but 2nd Degree Murder strikes me as an over-charge. As I understand it, 2nd Degree requires premeditation to cause harm to another human being. That's going to be tough to prove I would think. Zimmerman, like Martin, was on a trip to the store when he saw Martin. I understand that premeditation can happen right up to the last thought that goes through a shooter's mind before they pull the trigger, but calling the police hardly seems consistent with premeditation in this case. It'll be interesting to see what evidence the prosecution brings out that has yet to be made public.
