What's the big deal?

It would be interesting to see how many on this forum would be willing to post a picture of themselves so that we all could actually see who we're communicating with.

I have always heard that size didnt matter but the larger ones were easier to control. Jus sayin...I just keep telling myself that here in the civilian world, guns are weapons and weapons are guns.

Size isn't a huge deal as long as you can get your shots where they count. But, it does make a difference. When it comes down to it, why not give yourself the best tool available especially when you're open carrying and not restricted like a CCer. 3 inch barrel versus 4.5 inch barrel, 6 round magazine versus 15 round magazine, larger frame and easier to control, or smaller frame and harder to control. Not to mention that open carrying with a tiny gun might lower your amount of deterrence open carriers love (harder to see it on the person's belt).

Not me -- nor my wife. My wife was once stalked while on a job assignment. It ain't gonna happen again.

Two people threatened me all ready on this site... I'm going to pass as well...

Ask santa what I look like...i have met him :-)

No need to carry a weapon if you wear a hat like that! They will be afraid of you anyway, "That guy is nuts! Don't mess with him!"

How have people threatened you? Name the creeps.

Most recent was gov5. warbirds also commented on the threat towards me. In "why do you conceal carry" thread. Cotillion also wanted me to come to his town to duke it out, after claiming he hates me and finding out I lived a couple hours away from him. Forget which thread that was.

Edit: gov5 was more of a threatening attitude than a direct threat.

Picture me like a young Charlton Heston. I'm not anything like that but what the heck.

I carry openly, all the time and everywhere. Here is my picture with a Marlin 30-30 just purchased at a gun show.Link Removed

Big Gay Al, that picture is about 4 years old. I've since gotten a much better belt. :) The holster is a "desk rider." It can be worn cross draw or appendix. I cannot reasonably draw straight up from any belt holster, and this was what I found that worked for me. The draw is fast, smooth and I can present that .45 front and center with little time or effort wasted. I use and teach something called "Fist-Fire", a point and shoot system that gives me great control and stability. This is, of course, for short range shooting. Longer range requires use of the sights.

I'd be interested in a holster like that. At 55 (soon to be 56 years of age) I have "acquired" some of the usual effects of aging. And my job as a security officer has me sitting more often that not.

Ha! I'm 65, and know just what you mean. :) Unfortunately, the outfit that made that holster was sold and the new owners make only "cowboy action" stuff now. I don't know where you'd find one just like it, but it's a good one. I'm tempted to take my oldest one and see if I can't "reverse engineer" it or talk some small gun leather outfit into making some. Would be more expensive for a while, but this holster is ideal for a lot of older, short waisted people who struggle with the standard type. And it IS darn comfortable for sitting and driving. My recent 500 mile (each way) trip to Colorado gave me no troubles at all far as the holster was concerned. And if you want to conceal it, just flop a shirt or jacket over it.
