What's the big deal with open carry? Is this guy's gun really that scary?

The "hat" was actually a Valentine's Day wreath I picked up off the shelf. The sweatshirt is a Christmas gift from my daughter:

The gun is a stainless steel slide Taurus PT-145 loaded with 11 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense +P .45ACP in a FOBUS Paddle holster. The photographer was my 15 year old daughter with her IPhone. Parents...you just can't take them anywhere!

i LOVE the shirt, it reminds me of the scene in BAD BOYS 2, where the kid comes knocking on the door asking to take reggies daughter out on a date. I told my daughter i was gonna do that to her, as it turned out she married a guy in the Army so now him and I go out back shooting whenever he comes home.

I just know there's a criminal in the back ground fixing to jump him and steal the gun

If I may add my 2 cents here, I would suggest carrying a bigger weapon because you dont have to worry about sacrificing size for concealment as people who carry concealed do. Use the fact that you are open carrying to your advantage as much as you can. Maybe upgrade to a Glock too lol.

Now there aint nothing wrong with your gun, but in my opinion, if you're gonna carry openly, carry the best gun you have. For me that would be my full size. Depending on dress, if I want to conceal, I sometimes have to use a smaller gun. But carrying openly, Ill carry a full size gun with longer barrel and more rounds in the magazine.

TREO LIKED MY POST! TREO LIKED MY POST! OMIGOD TREO LIKED MY POST! Next, I expect peace on Earth, cats mating with dogs, and conservatives and liberals coming together to discuss issues in a calm and rational fashion.

Deserteagle, I think Navy should open carry a BLUNDERBUS. Now that would be edgy.

I still want to carry one of those 40mm's the guy on the other thread posted about! Now that just screams intimidation.

I could have been a Hi-Point..but NOOOOOOOOO! As long at it goes bang when he pulls the trigger, the model is irrelevant. (kinda)

The only thing wrong in that picture is that hat. Ssssooooo wrong.

I think this thread was misplaced. This should be in the CC section. No one would ever see a gun of any size while wearing a hat like that. Concealment by distraction. What a concept.

I have always heard that size didnt matter but the larger ones were easier to control. Jus sayin...I just keep telling myself that here in the civilian world, guns are weapons and weapons are guns.

IMHO nothing is wrong with OC. When I see someone with a side arm I am pleased. My sister-in-law on the other hand was upset when, the one time that she went to a range that there were people there with guns. Please, do not ask me to explain how that is rational. My point is this, some people are afraid of guns. If my sister-in-law saw your gun she would never see you. She would focus solely on the gun and run the other way. I, on the other hand, might well come up and start a conversation. In her case her father, a cop, instilled the fear of guns in all his daughters at a very early age.

Many people have an irrational fear of guns I choose to CC so as to not stress these people (and other reasons). If you wish to accustom the public to the presence of weapons then you have my support. When you walk by and I hear someone express their distress I will politely point out that you don't seem to be a threat and that it is legal. I, my friend, have made another choice but I will support yours.
