Waffle House Shooting (Good Guy Wins)

Dont put words in my mouth. I said frown upon them if they just let someone die before they acted. In general I dont frown upon carriers. Also, it may depend on where you live but you may or may not be allowed to act on another's behalf if they could legally use deadly force. If its not legal and someone dies in front of you when you could have stopped it i can assure you it'll be alot harder to sleep at night than if you had of pulled the trigger. Either way I promise you that if you take a life you wont be sleeping like a baby for a while.

I want to be very clear I am not and never did say I would handle it differently. In Fact I stated very clearly that the details as you present them leave almost no other option than to fight back.

What I am saying is unless I have no other option I'm not starting a gunfight.

Having said that, I still stand by my original post which is if it looks like the bad guy is going to walk w/ the money and do no further harm I'm eating my waffles

Well, this is interesting revisionist history now isn't it? I don't see where you said anything about just casually continuing to eat in your original post, and you definitely didn't say anything like that in subsequent posts. In fact, your knee-jerk reaction was no less offensive than Rich S's to the CC'er as you signed onto Rich's post in your first reply, and expounded by saying you wouldn't even stick around to give a witness statement to the cops if you could get away with "slipping out the back door" before they got there in your second post. You've been on my ignore list ever since replying to my question about that slipping out the back door crap in your third post:

I get what you're saying about everything else, but you wouldn't feel a civic duty to be a witness after the robber was long gone?

Not even a little bit. I'm sure the other patron's statements would be more than sufficent

And then you even said you'd break the law to practice your cowardly avoidance of any civic or humanitarian duties!

OK, no sense of civic duty....What if there was a legal duty to give a witness report? Would you break a law and still slip out the back door before the cops got there?

If I thought I could get a way w/it? Gone like yesterday's news

I took you off ignore just long enough to see you reply to Mr. Harrison, whom I believe has every reason and right to be righteously indignant towards you and Rich as you still question his first-hand account as though you know better than he what his "right" moves should've been. Fact is, you're as ignorant about the facts of this case as the reporter(s) who first wrote/commented about it. Now slip out the back door with your tail between your legs and quit posing as someone who is concerned with doing the right thing.

To Mr. Harrison: Congratulations, Sir. I salute you. I empathize with the difficulty you might be having with sleeping, but don't question your actions or your account of the events at all. If your Sheriff and the law aren't second-guessing your actions, then hopefully you can soon relieve yourself of whatever emotions are causing your sleep problems. My prayer for you, Sir, is that you get back to sleeping well every night and that God grants you a clear conscience as you move past this troubling event. Good luck to you, Sir, and God Bless you and yours.

Thank you good Sir.

Snipping, thanks for the info. There were a lot of holes in the news article, so thank you for filling us in. Not that it matters but I agree with your actions. I also agree with you choice of weapon.

If for no other reason than the poster has already made it clear he won’t be reading my response, I thought twice before responding to this post but in the interest of clarity I decided to do it.

Unless no other option is open to me I’m not going to start a gunfight w/ the robber, I’ve never taken any other position in this thread or on this board ever.

My gun is strictly a defensive weapon; I do not carry to bring evil doers to justice and the fact that some of you seem to think the mere fact that you have a permit and a gun obligates you to engage the robber scares the Hell out of me. Your CHP does not make you a super hero you are not the guardian of society. After reading some of your posts I really, really, believe that some of you strap up every day praying to God for a chance to be a hero. I want no part of it. I said it before and I’ll say it again; if you get your ass shot off playing boy wonder Waffle House is going to disavow your actions (and any fiduciary responsibility) so fast you won’t know what hit you.

I never said I’d run out during the robbery (I’m a coward remember? Why draw attention to myself?) What I said was afterwards if I can get out that back door w/out interacting w/ the police I’m on it like Jillian Michaels on a fat chick.

Maybe there’s a weakness in my breeding but no, I do not recognize any civic, moral or other duty to stick around after the robbery and give a statement (one of how many?) to the cops I don’t need the hassle and if I can get out of it I will. The cops don’t need my statement and I don’t need to get subpoenaed to lose time off work and go sit at the courthouse for a couple of hours until the DA tells all the witnesses that the robber copped a plea and got probation anyway.

And if Blue String (or anyone else) thinks less of me because of that, I’m Ok w/ it.

FWIW here is my OP

Got to go with Rich S on this one, I don’t carry a gun to defend Waffle House’s insured cash register. If I am not directly involved and it looks like the robber is going to take the money and run I’m going to let him.
If I had to get involved I most certainly am not going to attempt to apprehend anyone I am going to open fire and continue to fire until one of us is on the ground

And the one where I said I'd slip out the back door

I don’t know how I can make it any clearer, if the guy looks like he’s just going to take the money and run I’m going to let him and if I can I’m going to slip out the back door after he’s gone before the cops show up.

If the guy appears to be a threat to me I’m going to defend myself as violently as I possibly can. I certainly will not ever attempt to detain a robber for the police.

Waffle House is insured against robbery and if I try to play hero and get my ass shot off they will not pay one dime towards my medical expenses or to the support of my survivors.

After hearing quite a bit of negative input from some others every positive statement helps. Im glad the majority approve of my actions and the likes of Treo and Rich are the minority on here. Not to burst your bubble but that Glock had to be the most unpleasant gun to shoot out of all of them that I own. Im guessing it just doesnt fit my hand too well. But I knew that if I ever needed it then the track record it had for reliability was top notch.
