Police said Tuesday that a "suspicious device" found on the roof of a business after a fire earlier this month was a rocket. Authorities are attempting to determine whether the case is connected to a series of attacks on the Hemet Gang Task Force.

The fire was reported June 3 at Los Altos Market in Hemet. Police said the nine-pound, inert training rocket malfunctioned and landed on the roof of the building, where firefighters found it after the blaze was extinguished.

Authorities said the M29A2 rocket was pointed in the general direction of the Hemet Police Department, according to Southwest Riverside News Network.

The discovery came amid an investigation into attacks against the city's Gang Task Force and City of Hemet property.

When the blaze was first reported June 3, Lt. Duane Wisehart said, "Based on the type of device, time of occurrence and close proximity to the police facility, the investigation is being handled by the same task force as the prior attacks on police and city buildings and vehicles."

The attacks began in December when a gas line of the roof of the Gang Task Force building was directed into the building. In February, a device described as a "home-made zip-gun" was discovered as a task force officer opened a gate at the building.

In March, an explosive device was attached to an unmarked patrol car. Later than month, four city code enforcement trucks were torched in the Hemet City Hall parking lot.

In April, a fire damaged a mobile home used for police training.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, which burned pallets at the market.

Only a matter of time, Festus. Frankly, I'm surprised that we didn't see this type of activity long ago. Now, we can really turn our urban areas in urban combat zones. It's called the S Hitting TF.

and so we here in America begin to live lives that can be compared to Israel. I'm surprised this has not happened sooner. Lets focus on taking guns away from law abiding citizens while the thugs now use military rockets..

where exactly is Hemet?

Between Riverside & Palm Springs. One of the most popular retirement communities in So. Calif.

There has been 6 attaches there since the first of the year...

The incident marks the sixth time Hemet police and city officials have been targeted since Dec. 31.
On New Year's Eve, the Gang Task Force office, a block away from the police station, was filled with natural gas and rigged to explode when officers stepped inside.
A month later, the same office was targeted with a trip-wire gun, set up to fire when a chain-link rolling gate was opened. A shot from the zip gun just missed an officer.
On March 5, an officer found a device attached to the wheel well of an unmarked car designed to kill an officer, before it malfunctioned when it fell from the vehicle at a Hemet gas station.
In March, three city code-enforcement pickups were torched just before midnight at City Hall. Weeks later, the police firing range was destroyed in a fire.
The attacks are being investigated by the Gang Task Force, including the Riverside County district attorney's office, the Riverside County Arson Task Force, the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the California Department of Justice Crime Lab.
Law enforcement officials have carried out a series of raids on Hemet-area gangs in the wake of the attacks searching for evidence and making sweeps for parole and weapon violations. The Vagos motorcycle gang was initially targeted by police, but police now say they're not considered suspects.
A multiagency sweep led to the arrest of 23 people in April, including some members of the COORS Skins, a white supremacist group based in Hemet. No one has been charged in the attacks.
The Hemet City Council has declared an emergency, allowing it to speed up security improvements.
Authorities have offered a $200,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
