storage of firearms during the night

Guns plus dogs are better, especially if dorg is yappy

I have to laugh at those "safety-minded" people who keep their guns locked up/unloaded/trigger locks - think of stress and being unable to unlock/unlock/load (but those types just can't relate to the real world of HIGH STRESS PARALYSIS/NOT THINKING CLEARLY/getting killed)
And/or those who keep their piece HOLSTERED by their bed
It takes 2 hands to unholster. ....
Simply put, I keep my 1911right next to me on the headboard so I can engage without having to think about anything
BTW, for those of you who profess different shot sizes/slugs/chokes for your shotgun - have you ever patterned your scattergun at in-home RANGES ?

What is the typical range in YOUR house ?
Pattern your gun there.
What I found is that at under 20 feet it makes NO DIFFERENCE what gauge/choke/shot size/vent rib/color sight bead/monte carlo stock/recoil pad/what you had for dinner/what brand truck you drive/what your wife wears to bed....
In YOUR home ANY/EVERY shotgun will KILL any/every intruder !

Or, it may bring the ATF "in" to give you some guns, so they can then try to track them.

if every citizen had a fraction of that collection .....there would never be any other nations foot soldiers on our soil trying to beat our doors down like we done in iraq to their citizens

I live in the country, far from help. No doomsday shelter, but I have a basement. Does that count? Not sure how much ammo I have but there's no such thing as too much. There's a bunch for the AK, but it doesn't take long to go through a bunch with the AK, so that isn't saying much. There's 150 rounds of 45 ACP HST and 150 rounds of 40 cal. HST on the desk behind me that I bought at a gun show not long ago. I haven't gotten around to taking it downstairs to put it away with the rest of the ammo yet.

I store my firearms in a safe. I have several firearms placed around for quick accessibility I do not consider ready firearms stored.

LOL The number of firearms you have does no make you paranoid it just means you like firearms. I have two large safes plus overrun. As for ammo well if your "frugal" like me you buy all you can when you can get a good price I have more then most wal marts stock I have a pallet in my shop with around 4 cans of 50bmg left on it ( real good deal 2 years ago on GB ) been through quite a few of them already. While I am unsure of the poster you responded to I myself have no shelter but I live WAY out in the sticks.

12 Ga. 3 inch mag, 00/000 depending on the weather, the 2 3/4 are for prak-tiz-ing, don't cha know?!. However, for keeps the CDP-II is a little snugger and to the point. Pillow works for me.

What is you think of the Mag-Pul? I have one 30 round that I have yet to try. Would love to know some real active user comment from anyone.
I know this thread has become slightly derailed but... I keep my 1911 in arms reach but, unlike in my shorts, I keep mine without one in the tube. I just figure with a LARGE ***** roaming the house at all hours I should have 1-2 seconds to rack the slide if i need to. Am I being foolish?

I don't have any myself, but my best shootin' buddy has several. I was just down at his place a couple of weeks ago and I just happened to ask him what he thought of them. He said he's had mixed results. Some have no issues, and some hiccup in feeding every so often. He didn't elaborate. I usually buy the surplus 30-rounders with the green followers for between $6 and $11 bucks at gun shows. Never had a single problem with them, so I have no desire to even try the Mag-Puls since I know someone who has had problems with them, albeit infrequent.

I disassemble everyone of my firearms before I go to bed and then lock them in the fire-resistant safe. I keep all my ammo locked in a separate location. Therefore, I may be unarmed in case of a burglary, break-in, etc.
I also dismantle my fire extinguishers before I cook anything. Don't want that thing going off by itself either.
