storage of firearms during the night

At Woodcrafters316 we offer a line of H.I.P.S (Hide In Plain Sight) Concealment Home Furnishings & Décor options. Our products differ from gun safes in that they provide an unlocked, yet hidden, approach to keeping your guns safe by keeping them out of sight. Check us out at Woodcrafters 3:16 - Home for more information.

Thank you & Good Luck

He just joined, he's posted six times so far, and all six posts say the exact same thing. Gee, am I sensing a pattern here?

Keeping the gun under the pillow is a very bad idea. If you adjust the pillow during the night, you risk accidentally touching the trigger. Try putting a velcro strap around the rails of the bed and attaching a holster to that. Another idea in a holster attached to the headboard, just below the top of the sheets. Either of these ideas can be made permanent later it you like a certain thing. For smaller guns, like a Ruger LCP, try using one THAT YOU KEEP JUST FOR HOME. Carefully open the bottom of a Kleenex box, put it under the actual Kleenexes, then re-glue the bottom of the box. You can rip the cheap cardboard open if you were to need the gun...

I sleep with a Ruger P95 and a XD.45 under my pillow..... Both locked and loaded...
I'm not worried... I'm a deep sleeper! ;)

Since we have an almost 4 year old running around, all firearms are locked up in our bedroom. A loaded 9mm pistol is in a quick access safe on top of the big safe which has a loaded 12 gauge. The rest of our firearms are stored unloaded, but several magazines are full. We live in a small town with no home invasion robberies so I am comfortable with the delay in response time.

Thank you. I appreciate your effort in making me feel welcome here. Yes...I just joined. Is there a crime in just finding this website? Yes. I posted the same thing six times. I responded to six different post involving people looking for solutions to the problem that my products help solve. It was my understanding that people are actually searching for answers when they post questions, and that is what I did. I fail to see the crime here? Would it be different in your mind if I was not the owner of the company? I am simply a man with a company, a family, and children to feed who is trying to grow his business by reaching out to a group of people who "so I thought" share my same core beliefs. If I am unable to reach out and introduce myself or my product, then how are people who may benefit from them every to learn about them. Contrary to what you may believe, I am a real person with a real company who gets up everyday and goes to work building items that I believe can help save children from being hurt from finding loaded weapons in the drawers of their parents, or for those without the money for expensive gun safes, or those who prefer a faster approach or a better alternative to underneath their pillow.

Thank you
Eric

Then why not just create a signature in the "My Profile" area to say something like:

Woodcrafters 3:16 - Products that H.I.P.S. (Hide in Plain Site)

And leave it at that for your advertisement. And talk to us about whatever we are talking about from now on? At this point we know you are selling your product so just talk about guns, how to carry, ammo, etc...

And welcome to the Forums.

You're welcome. And yes, it's a violation of site rules to do what you did. As Steon pointed out, you could have just put that in your signature and pointed it out in your replies. Pasting the same advertisement repeatedly is a violation of the TOS here, the forum 'law', so to speak. You are quite welcome. Spamming the threads is not.

Hello Eric. Welcome to the forums. I mean that.

That said, Rhino is correct about the TOS here, though to be fair, the TOS were written years ago and have been ignored in many ways by many people, and you certainly aren't the first to post advertisements before trying to get to know the membership here. I almost said something about it yesterday, but figured I'd leave it to Luke to say or do anything about if he saw fit.

That also said, I wanted to kind suss out that part of your reply that I kept intact above, so here goes.

Your first reply to someone who might find benefit with using your products was in a thread that was started on 01-07-2013, more than a year ago. The person who started that thread made their last post on 02-04-2013, also more than a year ago.

Your second reply to someone who might find benefit with using your products was started on 06-28-2012, a bit shy of two years ago. The person who started that thread hasn't posted here since 07-28-2013. By the way, this thread that we're having this exchange in is the one we're talking about in this paragraph.

Your third reply was in a thread that was started on 08-13-2013. The person who started it is still active here, but saying that your products might serve the purposes of that poster is somewhat of a stretch since they were simply saying, "When I get rich, I want one of these" and left a link to an expensive safe hidden under or in various kinds of furniture. That poster wasn't asking for info at all, but rather, providing it, but not for financial gain for themselves, just as a "Hey, look at this" kind of informational post.

Your 4th, 5th and 6th posts were made in reply to threads started on 12-30-2012, 10-11-2012, and 09-20-2012 respectively, one by a poster who has since been banned, another by a poster of whom that was their only post ever, and the other of which is still active, though I know I'm not alone in wishing that weren't true.

My point is, and it relates specifically to the part of your reply to Rhino that I left intact in the above quote, that you're not answering questions for people when you drag out Jurassic Threads for people who ostensibly asked questions and had them answered as far back as nearly two years ago. Likewise, you're not answering questions for people who have been banned, haven't participated here for many months, or didn't ask any questions to begin with when they started their threads. Ironically, the only thread that leaves which was made by someone who still participates was put there by someone some, if not many of us, scroll right on by without even checking to see what tripe they're posting anymore.

As to that last line, that's something you could only know if you took a minute to get to know us before you started spamming us. Jurassic Threads don't count as validly attempting to answer questions, and that leaves spam. Sorry if that seems harsh, I don't mean it to be, but rather than defend the practice of spamming, maybe join the conversations........or don't.

We weren't trying to make you feel unwelcome. On the contrary, we'd love to have you here as a new member. Just think about it from the other side for a second. If someone new came along to a forum you were on and posted six identical messages that were canned advertisements, would you think that was a new member looking for discussion?

I agree with Rhino. Which is why I suggested the Signature.

I've seen others do it, so why not you too? It's simple, it's discrete, it get's your message across. And... you talk to everyone about what's on your and our mind.

I'm a Freemason. I'm advertising Freemasonry with EVERY Post.

There... I said it.

I'm sure everyone on the Forum already figured it out though...

Most of my guns stay in the safe at night...most.

My 870 spends all of it's time near the bed on a magnet mount (and no, there will be no sound of me "racking the slide").

The way I see it, woodcrafter316 has two choices. He realizes that we were trying to be helpfully corrective and will continue on this forum, or his job of advertising is done and he will move on. *shrugs*

Too bad, with his use of a dictionary and his way of making a point, I'm sure we could have had some great discussions with him.

Nightstand in a Sticky Holster. (This way if i need it, and i am still half asleep. I need to draw it out of holster. I think that extra step will prevent me from maybe having an accident because of being half asleep and having something startle me in the middle of the night)

I know a lot of people have joked about this but I do lock my gun in a safe at night right next to my bed, I have two small kids who do wake up in the night sometimes and come walking into my room and I fr one can not feel safe leaving it out and exposed. I do however make sure that there is at least one loaded mag in the safe with the gun and am very confident in my ability to have it locked and loaded in time to protect my family.

I keep mine loaded and chambered just laying on my nightstand (unholstered) so I can grab it at a moments notice for defense. I do this because it's just me and other competent adults in the house that know how to handle guns. If I had children it would be locked in one of those quick access speed safes by my nightstand.

I don't see anything to joke about. Others may tell you what they have done or would do in such circumstances, but you're the only one who is in a position to best assess your own circumstances, determine the risks involved, and make the best decision to minimize all of those risks. No two situations are the same and no two kids are alike. My younger son was trustworthy with a gun much sooner than my older son was, and there was no difference in their upbringing or how they were introduced to firearms. My older son still doesn't care for guns very much. I gave my younger son a 45 for Christmas a few years back, which he loves. Your situation is no joke. Some others may disagree with your choices, but they aren't you, they aren't in your house and they aren't responsible for the safety of your children. Sure, listen to their advice. Maybe you can pick up some things that can come in handy in the future. But ignore them if they make light of your choices.

On top of the gun safe bolted to my nightstand, loaded, with extra mag and flashlight. No kids in the house. When grandkids stay overnight that gun goes inside the safe. Our very excitable 75lb. Aussie will wake me on time to get the safe open.Link Removed

With small children in the house it makes sense to keep the gun in a safe, but why not at least have it loaded and a round chambered? I just think your adding steps that aren't necessary and may prove difficult when you've been awoke in a panic, it's dark, you're rushed, wife/kids/dogs are freaking out, and time is of the essence. Just a thought.

.357 revolver and P229 (.40 cal.) in nightstand top drawer. Range bag containing extra ammo on opposite side of nightstand with EDC P228 on top of it. Mossberg 500 (18", shoulder stock, 12 ga. 00B) on floor next to range bag. A flashlight on top of the nightstand and two more between nightstand and bed. SR9C on wife's side with flashlight. Medium size dog in closet next to steel bedroom door with deadbolt. Just my wife and me. No children.
