Spartanburg City Councilman asks Sheriff Chuck Wright To Stop Encouraging CCP`s

One of the things I really liked about the instructor for the second CWP class I took was how much detail he went into in teaching much more than just what was required. I felt that I got more than my money's worth our of that class. The CWP class isn't just for getting your CWP although some feel like it is nothing more so in the case of the instructor with the one hour class not only was he guilty of lying hew was actually cheating the people who took his class. He is not the first one in SC to be arrested for this and gives not only the CWP holders in SC a bad name but the other instructors in the state who try to do a decent job of instruction.

Navy LCDR Arrested on Child Porn Charges!

This has about as much relevance as the SC CWP Instructor getting arrested being in this thread.

WHAT WAS THE POINT?

As far as guns being a deterrent...A friend of mine works as a police officer in Buffalo, NY. I asked him once how often the Police get shot at around his area....He said NOT MUCH because the bad guys know we have guns...And they know we will SHOOT BACK! I think once a large enough part of the public is able to protect themselves, criminals might think twice about assaulting the average Jane or Joe. am proud to say that I have helped 2 separate widowers on my block to obtain their CWP. I am not an instructor, however I helped them thru the process to get the necessary training, and even accompanied them to the clerks office in Downtown Buffalo to register their first Handgun. I hope they never need to draw in defence of their lives, But I feel good knowing I helped make it possible should the need arise.

I think that city coucilman should get to meet this federal judge. He and this sheriff could be "study buddies"!

"A federal judge has lambasted an Iowa sheriff for denying a gun permit to an outspoken government watchdog and anti-abortion advocate whom some in the area considered “weird.”

It was wrong for Osceola County Sheriff Douglas Weber to deny Paul Dorr of Ocheyedan a permit to carry a concealed weapon three years ago, according to a court ruling issued Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Mark Bennett also ordered Weber to successfully complete a court-approved course on the U.S. Constitution within five months."

Speaking of training for a CWP......

But this was Cherokee county which is right next door to Spartanburg.

He got what he deserves. Too bad for the students that trusted this man to provide the training they were required to have. Now I suppose anyone that got their CWP through this dirtbag could possibly loose their CWP?

Not only that, but according to the article, they too can be charged with perjury for not disclosing that they didn't get 8 hours of training. Is perjury a felony? If so, some could lose their right to even own a gun, much less carry one. If not, depending on whether or not any misdemeanors are listed as a disqualification for a SC CWP, they may well be denied any future permits too.

Sorry. It happened the middle of 2010 so its archived. I googled "iowa sheriff must study Constitution". Judge orders Iowa sheriff to complete course on Constitution after concealed-carry denial « Hot Air

There is a more in depth story on it here:

While I am sure that others from the Spartanburg County area will respond, I wanted to add some comments about e Sheriff Wright re-election memories....l

1st the changes he has made in the law enforcement arena in Spartanburg County far above and beyond are more than just this concealed weapons story...
2nd he is very popular with law abiding citizens
3rd there have been so many great things his department and leadership has accomplished that you just dont hear about..... From helping support veterans groups to shop with a cop ( Christmas shopping trips with underprivileged kids) toys for tots...
4th In a county that has had some legal issues with challenging county employees and underperforming departments.. He stands out... He recently took over the detention center due to previous administration budget issues....

Will he get re-elected?
It is the opinion of many that it would take something insanely crazy for him to be voted out..
I share that opinion....
Of course the Mucketity muks that despise the rights to carry, and those that are mad cause they or thier constituents are busted breaking the law in a manner that some don't want to admit, want him out.....

But alas... I'm sure I just started a debate as to which I doubt there will be any winners....
So please be tactful and considerate in your replies.....

Many in the LE community would prefer that no citizen will be armed during a meeting; (criminal or social setting). Some, very few, actually know and understand their place and necessity and see the law-abiding, armed citizen as "helping the community" by "helping themselves".

Politicians that do not understand the need and place for Law Enforcement are those that grant public funds for Tanks, SWAT type response teams, Prison farms. But we generally can't blame the politician; we must blame the schools & liberal academia that WE (the people) allowed to indoctrinate them. Why would they want an armed populace to oppose their struggle for "POWER"?

One of the responsibilities of the office of Sheriff is Fyrd Thegn (i.e. to muster and lead the yeomanry at arms when the situation so requires) back to pre-Magna Carta times. Sheriff Wright is spot on.

I sent the sheriff a letter in support of his actions. I told him to ignore idiots like Micheal Brown!

I thanked him for his support of the Second Amendment

Is this our own NavyLCDR? Are you sure?

No, of course not. But it had just as much relevance in this thread as bringing up a bad SC CWP instructor with no prompting.

Just trying to make a point.

I wasn't even thinking someone would think it was OUR NavyLCDR. Sorry if you thought I was trying to say that.
