There's an update to this story. A predictable one, I would say:


Unbelievable: Cop who wrongly killed teen had history of blunders, was fired from last job as cop


The Euharlee, Georgia police officer who shot and killed a teenager because she wrongly thought he was holding a gun had made a similar mistake in the past, and was fired from her previous job as a police officer as part of long history of blunders and poor job performance.

When 17-year-old Christopher Roupe answered the door at his home on the night of February 17, officer Beth Gatny opened fire on him. Gatny, who was there to serve a warrant on Roupe’s father, had thought the teenager was holding a gun. Lawyers for the Roupe family say the kid did not have a gun, and was likely holding a video game controller for the Nintendo Wii.

New evidence has surfaced suggesting that Gatny had a history of making this mistake and should never have been employed by the Euharlee police department. In 2008, she fired her gun at a suspect who was trying to open his backpack because she thought he was armed. The suspect was not armed, and her partner said there was no reason to think otherwise. An investigation disagreed with the partner and found Gatny innocent.

Worse, Gatny was fired from her job as a police officer in Acworth, Georgia before joining the Euharlee force nine months ago. Gatny was fired for failing to show up for work, according to NBC News.

As to what I put in bold above, let's understand this; finally a street-cop comes forward to tell the truth about his partner's bad acts, and their command team ignores that testimony and let's the loose cannon off the hook. Can't say for sure, but it appears she stayed working for that agency too, as she was only hired in Euharlee nine months before the incident that killed young Mr. Roupe.

So at this point, Officer Gatny is a serial shooter of non-threatening, and in at least one case, 100% innocent citizens.

So someone explain why cops should be trusted at all these days again, please?

As you can see... one LE agency throws out the trash (amazing isn't it) and another scoops it up. In my mind there is no way that any logical, moral, or concerned principality would take on a liability such as Officer Gatny. Then, to have her partners assessment ignored and overruled is absolutely outrageous; unless of course there is an overarching design to flood the LEO system with officers of her ilk.
The deck is genuinely stacked against us!

What I want to know is, when are pigs like that going to get what's comin' to 'em on the spot? There was some minor yelling at him, but it calmed down in just seconds. The swine shoulda been culled from the drove and paid his debt to society right then and there.

Luckily it appeared the girl wasn't injured, but it was just that -- luck.
