I think I’ve told this story before here but let me explain why I’m so dead set on not telling people that don’t need to know.
Several years back, I made the mistake of telling a friend of mine who was interested in concealed carry that I carried a gun. I explained the ins and outs and what all I had to do to get a permit and I thought that was the end of it.
About a week later I’m talking to this guy and another friend who I did not want to know I had a permit after church. In the middle of the conversation my buddy turns around and tells the other guy “Treo’s carrying a gun right now.”
I made the mistake again and this time the guy I trusted has told everyone on the church security team, the ushers, the Pastor (who already knew) and various friends of his because he thinks it’s “cool”.
Once you tell one person you might just as well assume everyone in your circle and everyone in their circle knows.
That's why I don't make smart assed remarks or try to be "cool". If my wife asks (why would she?) she gets the straight truth, if a cop asks same thing. Other than that I would be straight with the Pastor or the head of the security team because they would know I was lying if I said anything else and that would be a red flag.
Any one else, even if they walked up and said "Hey Jamie told me you were packing is that true?"
"Nope." or "I don't knw why he continues to tell people that lie." and on about my day
