No, only the religious that pose a threat to freedoms and mankind's future, those you consistently ignore. You go on about the love and compassion you hear in your church, yet when presented with evidence of hate and intolerance preached in many other churches, you attack me. Don't like the message, shoot the messenger?

Doesn't change the fact the probably millions of people across the buy bull belt are listening to instructions from the pulpit about who they should hate at this moment (Sunday morning).

Is this problem in the south more prominent with any particular denomination? Is it rooted in racism? What exactly are they preaching? General hate? Racial hate?

Well, in a sense you're absolutely correct. I takes two to tango. But when an atheist enters a religious thread for the purpose of fighting each and every person and post I lay the aggression on him. What past experience drives a person to enter the lion's den looking for the fight? I'm a Christian so I post in the thread. but I won't enter an atheist-centric thread and fight with every person there. Such behavior would signal something wrong with me. I have no problem with atheists. I'm good friends with an elderly atheist couple. We don't even talk about the subject. They're fine people. They're entitled to their belief, unmolested by Bible thumpers. But they're not entitled to ridicule every theist. I posted earlier I was shocked to see them at my mother's funeral and church service. He said respect trumps religious belief. A fine man indeed.

Currently gay hate is in the limelight with the news and recent court rulings, but general hate of anyone that doesn't follow the preachers narrow interpretation of the bible, politics (one church tried to throw out every member that did not vote for Bush in 08), and racial undertones are just under the surface (church refuse to marry inter-racial couple), etc.

My dad once gave me some great advice. He said if you feel you have to bang every assh0!e on the head you'll; spend your life banging assh0!es on the head. XD, you're banging every assh0!e on the head. An you're spending a lot of time doing it. Even those who haven't attacked your belief. My posts show I respect the atheist as long as he keeps it out of my face and in turn I don't try to ram Christianity down anyone's throat. Even the Jehova's Witnesses won't come to my house for fear of the dogs. I won't tolerate religion peddling and the point has been made very clear to them.

If you don't see what you're doing perhaps a post count of religious insults is in order? You absolutely have the record. Each and every post by each and every person is attacked with insults. Very childish. And when someone writes that many offensive posts... and so passionately, it's very telling. What happened to you to cause such hatred?

I NEVER mentioned the subject of nature vs nurture. You are absolutely correct that opinions still differ as to the amount of influence when evaluating how much of an affect each has. Thus, why is it that two kids born in the ghetto to bad parents can take entirely different paths in life. But that is not the same as gut value programming.

An example of GVP is that a small boy emulates his father because he's surrounded by the father's influence; be it good or bad. IF nature chooses that little boy to be gay he may emulate his mother or even an older sister. GVP encompasses both nurture and nature and makes no distinction between the two. It merely states that a person is a sum of their influences and experiences, whether they were based in nurture or nature. You took psych and soc in college? Why don't you know this distinction?

I've been unable to go to church since November because of some health issues. During all that time, only one couple from my church has come to visit me. This is very disappointing to say the least.

Here's the deal-
I don't want anyone to believe in me as a Christian. Nor, do I believe in any other human being that wears the name. (or any other for that matter) You see, believing in "sinful" man will always disappoint. It makes no difference if the man claims Christ or professes atheism.

Here's the glorious difference between the two. As a Christian, I may not have a single person come see me or pray for me. But, I have a Savior that will NEVER leave me or forsake me. Jesus is always as close as HIS Name! So,

As a Christian-

• I never have to face struggles alone.
• I never have to depend solely on my efforts & abilities.
• When I am weak HE is strong!
• When I am alone and need someone to comfort me, HE is right there.
• When I need prayer, I find solace in the fact that HE is ever interceding on my behalf with my FATHER.
• When nobody is there to love me, all I need is to call HIS Name.

That's why I'm a Christian. I am NOT a Christian because I expect anything from anybody. I am a Christian because of Jesus and the love HE poured out to me before I was even born.

I'm glad you find comfort in your beliefs, but it is merely a crutch for those unable/unwilling to accept the reality that we exist only in the here and now, and will exist only in the memories of those that care about us when we die.

It sucks that your fellow christians have abandoned you when a friendly smile or the offer of actual assistance would brighten your day. Sadly many christians utilize the truth table below.

And this, at least in my opinion, is what is wrong with every discussion between theists and atheists. Both consider anything the other side says (whether directed at them or not) as a challenge to defend their beliefs that cannot be ignored making for an endless discussion that proves nothing to either side.

Theists believe in a Deity.

Atheists believe there is no Deity.

Both can be, and often are, equally as fervent in their beliefs.

And whether either side wishes to acknowledge it or not.....

Each belief is valid.................... to the believer.

Now... to get each side to understand that the other side's belief is worthy of respect is another thing all together.
