Now I understand people want to be able to own AR 15 rifles, though I'm not sure why? Why are the people of the U.S. so infatuated with the AR 15 or any assault rifles? Could it be they want to feel like G.I. Joe? Now I have owned pistols of various calibers, rifles and shotguns. But I only own rifles for hunting or maybe a .22lr rifle for targets. Same with shotguns, only for hunting. I don't understand the reason people are so drawn to the assault rifles? They can't honestly believe the Government/Military is going to over-throw the citizens of the U.S. can they? And I see nothing great to fear so much that you need an assault rifle? Unless you are dealing drugs or have a lot of drugs/money/other valuables laying around in your house, I doubt that three people with AR 15's will break in. I just can not understand the American people's love affair with assault rifles. I only own a .380 and a .32 acp pistol for home and carry and I feel safe with that.

There's newbs and old-timers in this thread, but just to remind and/or inform y'all, cluznar has been outed as a gun-grabber of the first order more than a year ago. Every once in awhile he spews some more anti-2A pabulum, and I usually reply with a post just like this. This is an excerpt from this thread, and this post of mine. If I have to provide any more evidence of his gun-grabbin' ways, I can, but surely this is enough, no?

The link is no good anymore, but there are many folks who saw and clicked it when it was good. I found an "essay" cluznar wrote by simply searching on his user name, and the quotes above are excerpted from that essay. Found a lot of other stuff about him too. Dude is fishier than a can of Chicken of the Sea, and apparently part of his reason for being here is to distract from any dissention against government like that being leveled at the NY SAFE Act.

And to get back on that topic, thanks for the OP Cnon. JPFO is one of my favorite sites on the web. There's more truth to be found on that site than almost any other that I've found.

I'll be honest. When I came to this forum I had a belief similar to Cluznar. But the more I read in these forums the more I understood. Then I read a link someone posted, and I don't recall where it was and I'm not going to go search for it now, but it was in reference to a court case.

Back in the 20's or 30's (I think) the Supreme Court found that the American People had the RIGHT to carry MILITARY GRADE Firearms. The SAME FIREARMS that the US MILITARY were being issued and were carrying and that this was the INTENT OF THE CONSTITUTION.

/Edit Therefore I conclude, as a 2nd Amendment RIGHT, EVERY American Citizen should not only be allowed to OWN AR-15's, but they should be allowed to OWN M-16's!

Gun Violence. Two words that should not be used in a sentence close to the other. Gun is an inanimate object not capable of self-animation. Gun violence is a political and misused term to instill a strong feeling of dread and fear by a uniformed and sometimes scared public used to disarm a population for the purpose of control.
Gun violence is an impossible action. Guns are inanimate objects just as car violence, stair well violence and other inanimate object violent guns are incapable of any action.
Assault weapon is a political and legal term that refers to different types of firearms, and that has differing meanings, usages and purposes. Whether or not assault weapons should be legally restricted more than other firearms, how they should be defined, and even whether or not the term "assault weapon" should be used at all, are questions subject to considerable debate

Not at all! And a .22 is better than no gun, a .32 better than a .22, etc. However, after watching an episode (wish I could find which one) of I Almost Got Away With It where the BG got shot multiple times in the chest with a .22 from a few feet away, and still stole the car from the guy who shot him... While I certainly don't want to be shot with one, I'm going with the biggest caliber I can carry! :smile: I just think it's important to understand exactly what you're carrying. If you've got a small caliber, be ready for multiple shots to stop a threat. If it's a large caliber in a small gun, prepare for it to take a bit longer to get back on target. Practice for what you might have to do.

Just to pile on, the caliber debate is not about lethality. It is about the capability to incapacitate. If a single shot with a 22lr would kill an attacker due to proper shot placement or inadequate medical attention, so would a single shot with a .45 ACP. However, multiple shots with a 22lr into the abdomen may not incapacitate an attacker quickly enough. The created blood loss and trauma (damage) is simply not large enough to have an immediate effect. Now, the attacker doesn't know that he is being shot at with a small caliber, so he may choose to run. This happens quite often, actually. However, he may also not realize that he has been hit and/or just go ahead and kill you, because he has not been incapacitated. Would you bet your life on that chance? That's why the recommendation: Use the biggest caliber you can handle. Note the important aspect of "you can handle" in that sentence. I have chosen 9 mm for now as my follow-up shots are just quicker and more accurate than with .40 S&W and .45 ACP in the same package (gun size/weight). I can also train and practice cheaper with 9 mm. I carry a .380 ACP mouse gun while jogging only. I regularly train and practice with it as well.

Would I want to be shot with a small caliber? NO, but if I ever get shot at, I certainly hope the attacker uses a small caliber go give me a better chance to defend myself.

Try one of those in .40S&W. You'll find out why S&W only made the CS40 for two years. A pocket gun but with the typical pocket gun problem of too small a grip.

She wasn't MY example. I was a shooter long before my dad met her. In fact, I was in West Germany keeping "Ivan" on his side of The Wall when my Pop bought the little guy for her.

Would I want to be shot with one AGAIN? No. But I was shot twice with a .22 from a distance of about 10 feet. Once in the left chest and once in the back of the head. I'm walking, talking, living and breathing. Had those been from a .45 I don't think I would be. I'm grateful the BG didn't have a .45.

Would I count on living through another attack with a small caliber? No. But I do think that large calibers have a better chance of taking down an aggressor. The shot to my chest wouldn't have stopped me from defending myself, it was the shot to my head that left me for dead.

Yes Mr. President, I am the victim of Gun Violence, and I say the American People should have the right to carry and defend themselves.

I want why I want. You want what you want. The answers speak for themselves. If there is anything to really add to this question/adventure, it would be that you should try, either through a gun show or a large gun shop to actually feel, handle and, if possible, discharge a firearm that seems to meet your requirements. Certainly reading the replies on this thread will also point you to opinions of others, but it is only your opinion, in the end, that counts, so "do your due diligence".
