And you seem to think that all armed robbers open fire. Guess there's more than one person living under that rock.

FBI stats show that only a tiny % of armed robberies actually result in the perps opening fire. Unless they start shooting or try to take me or a family member as some sort of hostage, I won't be starting a firefight.....especially with bystanders around. This is probably because I don't suffer from any Rambo-like delusions.
 
Let me look at this from my point of view, and my life style.

In the last 4 weeks, I have had breakfast twice in Waffle House Caf's, both times with my Wife. I am always armed, Glock 19, I spent 23 years as a firearms Instructor, I am a fair shot.

Seeing that young guy with a pistol in his hand, me sat with my Wife? I would have stood to get the best angle, and shot the guy with the gun, all he would have had have done to have shot my Wife, twisted his wrist, pulled the trigger! No chance I was going to give him that opportunity.
On my own, mayhap, I would have done this differently. As in drop the gun?

Putting my Wifes life in jeopardy? No way! This is not to stop a robbery, could care less about the money, but my Wife? I care a lot.

BG comes in and demands money from the register but shows no weapon ..... Deal with it how you want.

BG comes in waiving a gun, orders customers to the floor, forces employees into back room at gunpoint ...... ALL BETS ARE OFF. The ball has dropped into the roullette wheel and where it stops nobody knows.
You can sit there with your thumb up your ass and cry if you choose but you better hope, for your sake, that somebody with a CCW and a set of balls ....IE: NOT YOU!...attempts to stop whatever is about to take place!!

With all due respect, you can chance your life on that "tiny %" if you like. There is also a "tiny %" that you will ever need your concealed weapon, but you choose to carry just in case. Like I said before, I think I would have done the same as the CWP holder, subject to change based on the situation before me. I'm not interested in starting a firefight, nor do I feel like Rambo, but I am interested in not putting my rear on the line hoping he is not the "tiny %".

You're contradicting yourself. If you pull the trigger first like you say you will, you've just started a firefight! And please don't tell us how you'll drop the guy where he stands. If you're so confident that you can do that then you really are a Rambo.

The only way you can get hurt is if a firefight breaks out. So what's your solution?? Start a firefight! Brilliant! Create the very situation that you don't want to be in! The "tiny %" has just risen to 100%.


I agree with the signature line of a poster on this site - it's easier to avoid confrontation than survive it.
 
With all due respect B2Tall while I firmly believe that It's easier to avoid conflict than it is to survive it, it's also true that there comes a point when avoidance is no longer possible and the only choice left is to confront the conflict. When the need arises to confront conflict my personal experience has shown me it's best done with extreme prejudice. In such instances it's solely the scumbag threatening people with the gun that is responsible for any violence that occurs.

Actually, yes it is. Bad ass is sometimes a description used after an act of valor and not always welcomed by the receiver of the name. Bad asses have been keeping our asses safe for over 200 years.

If you're gonna quote me, include the entire quote. If he starts the shooting and you're the first victim? Your pistol is in your holster and you can't get to it in time because you were betting this was not in the "tiny %"?

Drop the guy where he stands? Rambo? Please. Where did you feel that I was going to say that? Because sometimes I may choose to defend myself or others?

The FIREFIGHT broke out when the idiot came in waiving a gun. End of story!
The end result may vary but there is no denying when the firefight began.

My pistol is a last resort, not a first. Some thug 30, 40, 50 feet away robbing a cashier is not a direct threat to me and I won't jeopardize the lives of everyone around in a highly risky and potentially misguided effort to "rescue" them.

I would not bet my life on the statistics that they won't fire.. Statistics are an average of the number of events.. If 500 events are in the statistics and 10 fire.. that is 2%... well it only takes 1 event.. and YOUR DEAD... as for me.. If you point a gun at me and I can get to mine... Statistically I have a very good hit ratio.........

When that gun is waving... then it is time to be shot or act.. Are you the hunted or the hunter.. the target or the shooter... You have to decide and decide quickly.....

I said it way early in this thread... you have to respond safely... if it is the best thing to call 911 first and then act to saves lives thru other means than fireing do it.. if putting live rounds down range will save lives and you can hit what you aim at... then that is what needs to happen.. BUT EVERY sitrep of the event at hand will mandate what should be done to mitigate the threat....
