quick44, your ignorance is absolutely glaring.
well for one thing,it's intimidating to the general population.
Nobody who simply open carries a handgun in a holster for self protection every day will agree with you. I get one or two comments or encounters about my gun per month. More than 95% of those are positive. 4 out of 5 negative encounters I have are concealed carry only snobs that can't resist the urge to tell me they carry their gun concealed and so should I. In a decade of openly carrying I have had one police encounter caused by someone feeling intimidating by my gun - I was eating dinner in a restaurant at dinner time with a handgun in a holster when it happened.
and also if a bad guy wants to rob a store, and see's that your armed he can easily get the jump on you and take you out as the first threat, nearly immpossible to draw your weapon when the bad guy guy acts on fast impulse,
Oh sure - the news is just filled with examples of Joe Citizen openly carrying in a stop-n-rob who gets shot (that was sarcasm). I'll bet you can't provide 5 documented examples of it happening in the last decade.
on the other hand,if your in a neighborhood that's a bit shady,i would open carry,in certain situations,
and this has got to be the most glaring ignorant statement considering your previous claim right before it. So - first you tell us that it is dangerous to open carry because the bad guy will shoot you first - but then you tell us that you would open carry in a neighborhood that's a bit shady. Really? It seems to me that the shady neighborhoods would have the higher concentration of the criminals that are going to shoot you first (as you claim), so why would you open carry there - in the area with the higher concentration of criminals?
don't want to draw attention to my gun all the time.
I will actually credit you with this one. The openly carried gun will attract a certain amount of attention and if you don't want any attention at all concerning your gun, then by all means hide it. That's a personal choice based on a valid reason.
not nonsense, just use common sense? if you want to open carry all the time, become a cop or security guard, otherwise people should know their role in their community. be smart.
Know my role in my community? I don't carry my gun openly or concealed to fulfill any role in the community. I carry my gun to protect myself and my family and possibly a stranger if need be. The best protection that I can provide for myself and my family is to decrease the possibility that the criminal will choose us as a target to begin with. The concealed firearm can do nothing to deter the criminal from choosing me as a target over the guy in the next spot in the parking lot because we would both look the same. The concealed firearm can only be used AFTER the criminal has chosen to attack you. Criminals are lazy and have common sense too. There is no reason for them to choose the person whom they know has the ability to kill them readily at hand when 99% of the remaining population is not displaying the means to readily kill them.
you have no idea of what your talking about, every situation is different let's see if you can draw your weapon faster than the bad guy?
Drawing a firearm from open carry will always be faster than drawing a firearm from concealed carry.
you probably have never even been in a robbery situation in your life or home invasion like i have,so think first before you type,if you had any real encounters then start typing, and let me know first so i can proof read your babble.
Let's look at your convenience store grab-n-dash robbery that you say open carriers will get shot first in:

Nevertheless, convenience stores in particular locations can be vulnerable to repeat victimization, especially those types of retailers that have large amounts of cash, low security, and few staff and customers likely to resist.
If customers and/or staff are opencly carrying firearms, that is the opposite of "likely to resist."

In 85% of the robberies which occurred, no customers were present at the inception of the crime and there was not a second clerk in the store. The scenario which developed repeatedly within the data analysis was that a perspective robber would enter the store and browse up and down the aisles until any present customers would leave before attempting the robbery. Of the remaining 15%, a second clerk was present in 8%, and a customer was present in an additional 7% at the inception of the robbery.
So much for the robber shooting the open carrying customer first theory. Now let's examine the home invasion. This is what happened at my house about 15 years ago which caused my family to buy our first gun for self-protection. I left for work at 5 am, still dark outside. The criminal(s) was watching my house. The criminal jumped the fence into my back yard and my three dogs ran out the doggy door and chased them out of the back yard. The criminal(s) must have thought the dogs were locked out of the house in the back yard because he/they came around to the front and kicked my front door in. My wife was in the living room, in a straight line with the front door and screamed. The dogs came back in through the doggy door and chased them out of the house.
So - let me ask you this, quick44 - in this very typical home invasion scenario exactly what advantage does conceal carry have over open carry? What are you going to do when the criminal kicks in your front door or climbs in through your window? Sneak up on them and whip out your "element of surprise" from under your bathrobe? Although I will also give you credit - you have not mentioned the "element of surprise" once in any of your posts - yet.
So, there you go, quick44. Several rational paragraphs with references to show the falacies and contradictions in your posts.
Just went back and looked you're right the post is 3& 1/2 months old but the guy has been here since 2010 and only posted this one thing
The same argument has been going on for a lot longer than 3 1/2 years....just not in the same thread. And it is usually revived by a one post troll.
