I'd say cluznar is basically right though: Not many people are going to just stand there and let you put bullets into them of ANY caliber. Plus, there are probably as many people killed with .22LR as any other round out there. I'd like something a little more reliable than rimfire if I'm going to depend on it to save my life, but still.

I just don't like paying twice what 9mm costs for a little short 9mm that doesn't pack the same punch. The smallest frame 9mm aren't that much bigger than the average .380 are they? That said, the I've seen the Ruger LCP, the Bersa, and a Sig all in .380 that'll get the job done. Not everyone can keep the baby 9mms on target. Those options are all great if you need something a little easier to shoot.

The gun that matters is the one you're carrying and can hit the bad guy with.

I needed something dependable, discreetly concealable and that I felt comfortable with In warm weather with shorts/jeans and Tshirt, its the LCP with LaserMax. With a pocket sleeve it fits discreetly in a front pocket. In cooler weather with a heavier shirt, its the SR9c in a N82 holster. I tried some of the larger frames/calibers and they were just too heavy and bulky to carry 100% of the time. And its no good if it's not on me, so I went with a bit smaller, but ALWAYS on my person and easily and discreetly concealed. My travels and interactions require discretion, so this works for me.

Ruger is my first choice. I carry a Ruger SR40C. And would gladly get an SR9C. They quietly sell their firearms to a civilian market. Their sales in the USA out than way ahead of many if the more well known Military and Police supplier gun manufacturers.

Kimber Solo

I have seen negative reviews on the Solo and am at a loss to understand how Kimber could have screwed it up. I like the P938 best because with my arthritis I may not be able to consistently rack a round into the chamber. Carrying one in the chamber makes a 1911 style pistol the best choice in condition 1.

Choice is clothing dependent, which is driven by environment I will be in. Prefer a 1911 but the KelTec is just so easy to carry... Besides, if I claimed I had the perfect gun / holster combo I could quit shopping!

They do sell to civilians, but their civilian-targeted guns all have silly limits like 10 round magazines and whatnot. For a pistol big enough to take more rounds, why not have more? Concession to California and other silliness. Also "features" like magazine disconnects. Don't get me wrong—I loves me some Ruger, and I'm sure interested some of their pistons, but … doesn't that factor in for you at all?

For me it's most irritating for things like the SR-22 which clearly COULD have more, but don't.

The Glock19 is every day...sometimes the Rossi M88 (it's been with me the longest of my handguns) comes along.

I carry my glock 23 with my inside holster it's easy to hide. plus I have a 2 mag paddle holster I like when I go on trips.

The carry magazine holds 9+1 in chamber...the extended magazine holds 14 or 15. Extra large mags are about $45 each, but it pays to have a few. In relation to the Shield in.40 the 40C holds more. The magazine safety can (I understand)be dismantled easily.

My husband often carries his Glock 17, though if he's wearing shorts he'll carry the Sig P238. I like my Kahr PM9 with my Crossbreed Minituck holster or the Sig. I have a small frame and have to be careful of what I wear even with these small pistols. Debating getting a conceal carry purse.
