Walmart has really pissed me off!

No attitudes down here in MS. I go to a few different Wal Marts. One makes you pay at the register there. The other two I take it with me and pay when I leave.

Once your transaction is complete at the register, you should have told them to hand over your ammo or you will report them to the police for stealing your property. Once your credit card has been swiped and a receipt has been printed, it is no longer time to play their games.

This definitely sounds like something of a regional thing. Neither Walmart I've visited for ammunition purchases has done such a thing. I have seen, at one location, this sort of practice for a firearm, though. That said, know that policies that sound sort of like this existed for ammunition in other, less liberated places I have lived.

I feel for you. In Delaware, we are an open carry state and since Walmart has no posted policy about fire arms you probably won't be approached for carrying unless it is by a ignorant employee. I know of a case where the police were called about a customer carrying and the police asked if the customer was threatening, or harassing anyone with the gun. The employee said no, they wer grocery shopping, but several poeple had made comment about the customer having a gun. The police told the Walmart employee there was no law boing broken and not to approach the customer or throw them out of the store because the gun carrying customer could sue the store and employee.
Now I worked for Walmart one time a few years ago and the store had a policy of when a customer bought a gun, they were escorted to the cashier and out of the store to their car by store management with the gun. As I said it was store policy.

The only problem I've had here in Wisconsin is finding someone who is working in sporting goods. Once I do, the hunt is on to find the clerk that has the keys to the ammo cabnet. I've only had to show ID to prove I'm a Wisconsin resident, and not from the Peoples Republic of Illinois. I guess they need a foid card to buy ammo.

I buy most of my ammo at WalMart and have never been given an attitude. The clerk has even offered to ring up the rest of my stuff back there since the lines "up front" are real long. My only issue with my local WalMart is finding anything in 9mm. I believe their stock comes in on Wednesday and it's all gone by Friday or Saturday. If I do come across some, I consider myself to be lucky.

I can honestly say I would not oblige an idiot such as that in any form or fashion. I would get a manager to explain to him the proper way to take care of a customer in that situation, and if that wasn't possible I would certainly not spend my hard earned money just because it's cheap. Giving in to idiots like that only empower's them to do the same next time. Some people need to learn the rules, even if it is the hard way :)
In NYS a sore may not sell handgun ammunition to anyone not licensed to posses a handgun. See NYS PL Article 270. The clerk must checl the license. As far as escorting you out I've never heard of that. Never saw it in any other Walmart. I pay at the sporting goods counter and put the bag in the cart.

They reserve the right under state law to escort you to the door for any reason and are not required to tell you the reason. Since their is no intent to steal the merchandise criminal charges do not apply. Under the penal law, one must not only refuse to turn over the merchandise but must demonstrate intent to relieve you of it with deceipt, theft or other violation. this is the same in nearly every state and provides businesses the right to escort anyone to the door for any reason, povided such is not a violation of the civil rights act of 1964... not consititutional rights as those are between you and the government only, but the CRA of 1964 (age, race, religion, creed, disability, gender, sexual preference, etc). i agree with laws that allow me to escort junior by his ear from my property. Would it be better if Walmart just stopped selling ammo? I say people shoulde just buy the ammo and shut their mouth. Be happy to get it right now, it's scarce. Always remember, a private company does not have to respect your constitutional rights. Read them. They're between you and the government. you have no right to freedom of speech, right to bear arms or andy other right on private property. This has been decided by the SCOTUS already.

Obviously anyone can escort you off their property. What I disagree with is somebody withholding my property from me. If Walmart ever did this to me, they would lose my business as well. It's ridiculous.

The only problem I've ever had with Wal Mart selling ammunition is that a clerk decided I didn't know anything about different calibers and proceeded to explain to me that there are many, many different calibers and I need to be specific when I asked for some. Guess 9mm wasn't specific enough. I know there's actually a zillion different 9mm's, but most clerks just know the most popular. I just acted dumb and let him explain. Then I pulled a spare magazine from my belt and compared a round from it with a round he decided I wanted. He didn't say anything else.

I don't know how many people remember this or not. But when Republican Sam Walton built Walmart, it was built to be an American Christian business that always stocked primarily American products. The only time a product from overseas was even offered was if it couldn't be found from an American manufacturer or grower. They regularly had every church group and scouting troop lining their sidewalk doing fundraisers and they went out of their way to honor our troops. The U.S. Flag became the official icon of the store and was proudly displayed on every isle. And the customers satisfaction always came first. Then on April 5, 1992, Sam Walton died.

Now, 20 years later Walmart has become just the opposite. Customer service is almost non-existent. They are trying to jump through all of the politically correct hoops of the liberal causes. Everything they can, they now buy from China. And the American Flag that you used to see proudly displayed has been replaced with a smiling yellow face. I can't help but wonder if that face is supposed to be Chinese.
Sam Walton was a great man....you have to respect any man who can successfully make people happy about making minimum wage and calling 30 hours per week "full-time". The old women working at the stores wearing 25-year and 30-year badges will fight you over bad-mouthing Sam Walton.

If you have ever watched an 80 year old woman do the "Walmart cheer" with enthusiasm...you know its wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, the current Walmart leadership doesn't have a clue. I know...I work for them. (not in the stores, though...we actually make good money in the Logistics Division)

Up until I started to reload shotgun ammo a couple years ago, I was purchasing shotshells at least twice a month at Wally World here in Co. without any problems at all.

I would have asked to see a manager. I have NEVER had that issue here in Michigan. I shop at walmart on a regular basis, sometimes I OC while Im shopping, I usually buy FMJ .40 Winchester ammo for target shooting, they usually have me pay at the sporting goods section and put the ammo in a plastic bag, tie it off and staple the receipt to the bag. In either case, you handled it properly in my opinion, they have some screwed up rules in New York.

Many of you have it better than we do here in communist California. Where I live, the Walmart stores have stopped selling guns and ammo. Fortunately for us, Sportsman's Warehouse came to town this year. It's a great store with shelves and shelves of ammo. However, I don't buy too much ammo, since I reload. I look forward to getting out of this left-wing state as soon as my wife retires.

Never had a problem getting ammo (except getting someone to open the case) Did have a run in with a manger once. A Mexican and a white kid got into a fight over the white kids tennis shoes in the produce dept. I stepped in because there were little kids in the middle of it, got the guys apart and calmed down, then a manager comes over and starts treating me like I did something wrong because I was OC at the time. Needless to say I went over this guy's head and he ended up being sent to another store. Ky Walmarts OBEY KY open carry laws.

The last time I was in Walmart. I bought.
1, 100 round box of "universal" shotgun ammo
2, 20 round boxes of steel goose shot.
1, 50 box of 22 magnum.
The friendly employe (honestly) double bagged my items up and tied them off then handed them to me "anything else let me know and have a great day"

It's great knowing the managers at my local Walmart.

I have not personally had any issues at a Wal Mart store, however I have only purchased ammunition at stores here in Texas. I will keep an eye on them, however. Thanks for the info.

WallyWorld here in my county locks up all it's ammo because it walks out all by itself if they don't. That being said, it is difficult to even find an employee who is authorized to open the case. We don't shop there anymore. On a similar subject, we have a brand new ****'s Sporting Goods. I went in during their grand opening to see what they have. Went directly to the gun section only to find they don't carry handguns, just rifles and shotguns (pretty good assortment and prices). I commented to the young man who was waiting on me that it was too bbad they didn't sell handguns. His reply was that there didn't need to be anymore handguns on the streets in that city due to the gang problems. I just looked at him and said that maybe if more people were legally armed in that city, there wouldn't be such a big gang problem. Then I asked him if he really thought bad guys obtained their guns legally. And, did he really feel safe when walking through the parking lot to his car when he got off work after dark. He was speechless at that point. So, I referred him to our local NRA shooting instructor and suggested he take a gun safety course and really learn what handguns are all about.

Wow

I feel for ya man here in Colorado it's not uncommon for people to OC in Wal Mart.
I don't OC in Wally World, but I do CC. I've never had a problem buying ammo at Wal Mart. They usually have really good prices and I usually deal with the same older gentleman who works in sporting goods. We always get to talking about guns, politics and such. He's a really good guy.
