Using the police to stay free from legal problems

I did this with some teenagers who almost took my Wife and I out with some real stupid driving maneuvers. They pulled into a convenience store right after the manuevers and I blocked them with my PU until the cops got there. I was told by the LEO that I could go to jail for kidnapping. Geeeeshshhh what is this world coming to? They weren't even in the car, they were in buying candy and other junk and laughing about the whole incident.

I guess you got a novice LEO who was not real familiar with a citizen's arrest then.

You can always report and complain about LEOs to their supervisors. Then it goes to a hearing.

Just so I understand....

Are you saying that you will sit in the driveway.. inside your car... and wait several minutes for the police to show up while the baddie is in your house raping and/or murdering your wife/daughter?

Is that what you are saying?

No It's not what he's saying it's what you want to hear.

My profound appologies, I went back and read his post again and that appears to be exactly what he is saying

Perhaps a troll?
I once came home and found someone in my apartment. The person refused to leave the apartment and refused to identify themselves. I detained him at gunpoint until I could acertain that he was the maintenance man and let him go and reported the incident to the managment. less than a half hour later there were 7 cops outside my door. I let them in and they spent an hour questioning me before telling the landlord that I was 100% w/in my rights.

Long story short, it's not worth the hassle unless there is an overriding reason to do so I'll leave the house clearing to the cops.

I have no training on securing homes

FWIW my training on "securing" homes involves throwing a grenade through the door and killing everyone in the room

Your probably right, but not knowing all (or any) the ins and outs of the law. I wasn't going to argue with him. It was obvious that since he didn't see what they had done, he wasn't interested in doing anything about or even contacting their parents. Which I thought he should have done. If I allowed my kid to drive a car to High School, I would certainly like to hear about something he/she had done that endangered other's lives. Maybe that's why the kid drove that way. His parents didn't give a darn.

What if the police are not available and or there will be a delay as is in the city and or out there in the suburbs, I thought that is why people want get ccw, to have there right to feel protected, they are armed,I see little in arrive home and think maybe there is a intruder in home, and or be in bed and think there is a intruder. Either way feel want to be able to protect yourself Should know how to handle a gun safely and check rms. Otherwise, if there are to many concerns legal issues , then have ccw or guns and take chances waiting for the police to come. and that if intruder in home he does not find you.

When seconds count police are only minutes away

YOU have a CCW License NOT A BADGE --- don't play policeman. Use your gun for protection and only draw it when you must. Spilling blood un-needed is truly a bust. Let Police be police.

This is an interesting issue at the present time with the Zimmerman-Martin incident in Florida all over the newsprint and on tv.

Generally speaking, the lesson of Zimmerman-Martin is not to try to do police work if you are not a sworn LEO.

Anytime you are in a situation where you can call the police, and get a response in time, you should do that.

The flip side of that is that overburndening the police with trivial complaints and suspicions is not right either.

And there are some situations where you would need to defend yourself, when it won't be possible to call the police in time, such as in any case of a face to face confrontation with a perp. For men the most imminent incident would be robbery, and for women it would be rape. Although burglary in progress for both men or women is also in the top 3 as far as crimes go.

Z was rather stupid in that he was out patrolling at a very early hour of the evening and was calling in what he thought was suspicious but which was really a figment of his own paranoid deluded mind. He also thought his CCW weapon made him undefeatable and found out it did not. When he had to resort to shooting a youth in the neighborhood that he did not recognize, the resulting protest nationwide has now landed him in big legal troubles. Exactly to your point.

The NRA crowd has rallied around Z for their own benefit, and the NAACP crowd around M, and everyone else is caught up somewhere in the middle, and as a result there will likely be 3 jury trials. In the meantime, everyone is at ill odds with each other over the matter.

The universal conclusion is that playing cop is not smart and could get very expensive.

HORSE FEATHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Find that pearl in a pack of gum, did you?"

Why do people in emergency situations call other family members instead of 911? I see this in news stories all the time also.

For the same reason that girls in horror movies decide to take a shower as the killer is near. Bad Judgement!

No Treo have not spilled a lot of blood... but have been working for 4 years with an intelligence company on the infamous Zodiac serial killer case. As a civilian and not a LEO I realize the only way to go after bad guys is with computers, phones, etc. By the way, after over 40 years we have solved the Zodiac killer case. There were two killers working together. The original Zodiac died in 1983 from cancer, he most likely killed 50 or more in his lifetime. His partner who is 20 years younger is still alive and killed a young couple at Jenner Beach, CA in 2004 by shooting them in the head in their sleeping bags.
In 2006 he killed two women in Snohomish county, WA at a park near a lake by shooting both women in the head.
In 2010 he killed a nurse in northern CA.
He lives in Seattle and is of a Genius IQ and has 3 college degrees and was once in the Army. A full report has gone to FBI and other LE.
Will he be caught? He may never be caught, the two Zodiac killers were possibly the smartest serial killers ever.
In one of his letters Zodiac said; "If you figure out these clues in my letters you will know who I am and you will have me. This is Zodiac speaking."
We have figured out many of his clues and they all point to our suspect, but they are done in a way that it will not hold up in court. As I said, he is of Genius IQ and was once a member of Mensa. He is 71 now and will possibly kill again. He lives only to kill and killing is really a big game to him. He has even given us 3 new Zodiac puzzles to figure out on the internet.
I have even spoken with him 4 times, he hates me and would kill me in a second. Last time I spoke with him he told me we should take all our info to police and see if they arrest him. He truly believes that "no one" is smart enough to catch him.
He also let me know if he gets a chance I will die. See the movie "Zodiac" made in 2007 with Robert Downey Jr -- very well done but they had the wrong suspect, we now know who Zodiac really was/is.

Plain simple logic tells me that any evidence, or even talk of possible evidence, in an ongoing investigation............. from someone actually involved in the investigation

is NOT going to be plastered all over the internet on a forum!.

If someone who was actually involved in the investigation really did plaster evidence on the 'net... evidence that compromised the investigation/arrest/conviction.... they would run the risk of ending up in the cell next to the Zodiac killer.

Seems logical, why throw all your cards on the table before seeing everyone elses hand?

I was involved in a case where the owner of a Lodge was awakened by the cook from his restaurant at 4:30 AM. The cook had entered the business and saw two men ransacking the kitchen area and got out without being observed. The owner told his wife to call 911 and he, armed with a 9MM 9-38, walked over to the restaurant about 100 feet away from his residence. He entered the business and turned on the lights at which point, two men ran toward a back door. One of the men was holding a a large knife. The door that they ran to had been blocked off and could not be used. He yelled at them to stop and when they found the door blocked, they turned toward him and began running for the door he was standing in front of. He again yelled for them to stop and when they did not, he fired 4 shots into the ground. At that point they turned again and crashed through the blocked door. A few minutes later the local SO arrived and while searching the area outside the business found one man laying in a pool of blood DRT. One bullet had ricocheted of the floor, hit a steam table and severed the femoral artery. He made it less than 50 feet. The second suspect also caught a ricochet in the shoulder. Since both entry wounds were from the back, the owner was charged with homicide.

The men turned out to be high school seniors who were having a party in a cabin down the lake. They had entered the business three times that night to steal booze and food. The trial lasted about a week and the owner was found innocent. It cost him $75,000.00 in legal fees and then he had to face a wrongful death civil case which cost him another $30,000.00. During the year long ordeal, he had a nervous breakdown and spent time in a mental hospital. He ended up losing the business and all his savings.

During the trial he remarked to me that if he had known what was coming, he would have let them burn the place down. The surviving thug told a reporter, "I'll bet people think twice about shooting next time."

laws piss me off. For every law there is another one that contradicts it and while the lawyers get paid everyone else suffers
