UN Arms Trade Treaty Calls for Disarmament of Persons 55 and Older

There is not a single thing in the proposed treaty that calls for disarming any individual based on age. The article linked from the Sheeple website in the OP is an absolute lie and nothing but propaganda. It's a bit ironic that it somes from a source called "sheeple" since those are the only type of people who'd swallow such a lie hook, line, and sinker......sheep who don't think for themselves. Don't be a sheeple and don't believe everything you hear/read no matter how much you want to.

I can't stand propaganda (read: outright lies and calculated misinformation) even if it's created to further something I believe in. It makes its creators look desperate as well as those who push it along (not to mention making the "believers" look like ignorant suckers). I'm against the treaty for a variety of reasons. There's plenty of genuine things not to like about it. No need to lie about it and make "our side" look bad. Below is a link to a copy of the treaty from the UN's website published just a few days ago.

What are your thoughts? Should we hang em up after a certain age?

I'm ove Grandmother opinion!

The source was guns.com. The Daily Sheeple rightly attributed their reprinting of it to the correct copyright-holder. What they didn't do is quote the whole bottom of the article, which looks like this on guns.com:

What are your thoughts? Should we hang em up after a certain age?

Outstanding rant though B2Tall. Utterly spectacular! Just too bad you got all that spittle all over your 'puter screen because of a rather obvious April Fool's joke. Now I'm kind of confused though. Would you consider yourself a fool (for getting caught in an April "Fool's" joke), a propagandist (for spreading untrue accusations about the article in the OP), or a sheeple (for following the crowd that couldn't follow the right link to the real source)? Maybe it's all of the above?

Not going to happen, little blue hats make great targets 67 years of outdoor survival, firearms use out weighs some 18 year old in a blue hat. Come and take it>

Well, I guess it worked, huh? :jester:

Both the OP and the article on Sheeple were dated April 2nd.

But the source wasn't, and guns.com was linked first in the OP and The Daily Sheeple article.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a big deal that anyone got caught in the April Fool's joke. That's pretty much the purpose of coming up with such a joke, to fool people. I just thought that you being so concerned about accuracy and propaganda and stuff, you'd want to know your rant was the result of getting fooled along with lots of other folks. No need to get defensive about it. LOL

That's ridiculous. My grandfathe- in-law is 83 and we just recently had to take his rifles away because his dementia has set in so badly. I agree that people who are not conscious of what they are doing anymore shouldn't have access to firearms but that decision should be made on a case by case basis and by the family member or caretaker of that person, NOT the government. Disarming everybody 55 and older? GTFO
Age has no bearing on who should be allowed to have guns as it is an arbitrary setting. They say 67 is the average death age but that includes countries where people don't live past 40. Dad is going to be 85 in June. Still can handle a 1911 well. But then his side of the family have been known to live to near and past the century mark.

I completely agree. Saying no elderly folks should be allowed to have guns because they are more likely to be stricken with a metal health issue is exactly like saying no black people should be allowed to own guns because statistically they are more likely to commit a crime. It's a completely arbitrary reference point and holds no weight. This country is based on freedom unless you personally do something to lose that freedom. Your personal freedom should in no way be jeopardized by the other people in your demographic.

I'm 57 years old and in good health and great physical condition for any age, jogging, lifting weights, and working out on the heavy bag 5 days a week. If anyone thinks that they are going to take my guns due to age or any other reason.....COME AND TAKE THEM!!!!!

I agree, I'm the same jog, lift weights, bicycle but I'm 59 years old, got mine shotgun and .45 ready beside that the U.N. are a 'BIG JOKE'.

If You’re Over 55, Please Hand in Your Guns

If You’re Over 55, Please Hand in Your Guns
This past week I got a letter in the mail from a gentleman named Kurt who lives in Florida. Kurt took my concealed carry course and wrote to me, “In April I will be 86 years old, just recently bought my first firearm… I appreciate what you’re doing and I wish you well.”
I appreciated Kurt’s letter and wanted to mention it for a few reasons. First, I think it’s great he got his permit and now has a gun… it’s never too late to gain firearms knowledge. It also reminds me of a question I’ve had throughout the years: “Am I too old to get a gun?”
Personally, I believe you’re never too old, as long as the “hamster is still functioning properly on the wheel.” In other words, it doesn’t matter if you’re 21 or 91, as long as you can properly manipulate the gun and are of sound mental health, then by all means get one.
However, if you’ve been paying attention to the news lately, you know that the UN doesn’t agree with me. As you’re aware, the United Nations is the group of politicians that… well… talk a lot and don’t really do much. (Sounds like another group of politicians I know.) But in the UN Arms Treaty that’s now being drafted, they want a section that essentially says elderly people can’t own guns and they need to be disarmed.
And no, this isn’t a joke.
Why do they want this? Well, I’ll let a doctor from Johns Hopkins tell you: “Therefore, as we enter our twilight years – clinically speaking, age 50 and above [Global life expectancy is only 67 years] – science tells us that we are in no shape to be handling or using a deadly weapon.”
Basically, the doctor and the UN believe that if you’re over 50 you ought to turn in your guns. So what does the doctor suggest you protect yourself with instead? You’re going to love this: He recommends a rape whistle. So as some home intruder is kicking down your front door about to invade your home and do who knows what to your family, just blow loud on the whistle.
Once again, this doctor and the UN’s advice proves that “common sense is the most uncommon of the senses,” and that as the world gets more and more “screwed up” it’s common sense that is going to keep you alive and well.
So it doesn’t matter what age you are, you simply need to take the time to make sure you can operate your gun and you need to get to the range and practice with it. I realize we all have busy schedules, but you should be able to make it to the range once a month and at the very least every other month (that’s only 6 times a year.)
Also, not that the UN Arms Treaty has a chance of going through, but if it did I’m sure our wonderful politicians would insert the following clause: “All people over 55 must turn over their guns, except my bodyguards~ Signed B. Obama… And mine too. ~ Signed D. Feinstein.”

Good grief. So what that it was posted on another part of the site. The source of the "story" already confirmed it was a joke! Are you trying to validate this JOKE just because it was picked up and commented on by the site's resident blogger? I remind you:

What are your thoughts?
Should we hang em up after a certain age?

Let it die, man. The joke has suffered enough already.

I thought it was funny! You don't? :haha:

I don't think it's funny to leave out the proof that it was indeed a joke, no I don't. I don't think it was funny, smart or right for the Daily Sheeple to leave out that proof in their reprinting the piece either. The further buried the proof gets in any thread about any subject, the more posts will come treating a joke as legitimate commentary on a serious subject. The justification for treating the UN gun treaty as a joke, if there really was ever such a thing, passed at 0001 hours on April 2nd. I hope Mr. Hanson has been seet straight that it was a joke, but I don't visit that side of the site, so I don't know. Did you set him or his readers straight? Or do you think the UN treaty is joke-worthy?

The real joke is that in the year 2012 there are people that think this is a good idea. Or perhaps i should say there are US Senators that dont think ths is a bad idea. This is progressiveism at its worst. Remember this warning. Not all Democrats are anti gunners. BUT ALMOST ALL ANTI GUNNERS ARE DEMOCRATS. SO stay home on election stay home on election day and watch what happens next. Then scratch your ass and wonder what happened.

Is this still about the 2012 election, golocx?

I have a better idea.

I'm a firm believer that ALL politicians be limited to two terms; one in office, the other in prison.
