Think you guys are right on it being a cultural thing, but not sure if it is just North/South. More like city/country.

If you were to wear all camo in downtown Detroit or Lansing, you would attract attention. But up in Claire or Mt. Pleasant area where my son lives, wouldn't even be noticed. But then it is farm/hunting country and a different culture. (after all, where else do you see a hitching post for horses in front of the outdoor/gun shop?)

Not so sure about that. Louisville is a fairly large city and when I wear camo here no one gives me a second look.

Now when I think camo I think hunting camo. So around here in upstate SC a person in full camo isn't looked at twice cause we all just assume he's another redneck who subscribed to that "we need to start wearing camo out in public" trend.

I have family & friends that would be hard-pressed to find something to wear that was "NOT" cammo.

Can't tell you how many times I have gone out in public wearing my Propper woodland BDU's with an OD t-shirt and tactical boots because I'm working on some project or just because they happen to be some of the most comfortable clothes I own. I live right around the corner from a mosque. Seeing more and more burkas these days instead of the simple hijab most of the women used to wear. Never been comfortable with the mosque in the first place (it used to be a JW hall that was converted to a mosque), and Grand Rapids, MI, now has at least 4 mosques. Getting a little concerned that things be a-changing there in the mosque....

Just trying to put another take on this. We are in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" Catch 22 and I agree with the thread headline---the terrorists really do win. This country, with its socialist and almost dictatorial administration and world politics is never going back to the 50's in this country, when you left your doors open and knew all your neighbors. A great deal of this can actually be placed to the monies that went into the interstate highway system and modern technology that gives us unbelievable mobility (he extent of airlines and the planes themselves) where families do not live near each other anymore--we are spread out and live among strangers and then move again and again because that is what we are nowadays--how many people actually start at a good job and remain there for 30-40 years--you are lucky if you have your same job in the same locale for 5 years. You add all this up and we are a mobile society living in a screwed up country and a screwed up world and the nanny government and the police state government are here.
