*Sheriff to put 'Armed Posse' at Schools*

Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio has proposed placing an armed volunteer posse at many Phoenix-area schools, in response to the deadly school shooting in Connecticut.

Earlier in the week, Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne proposed firearms training for one educator in every school in the state. Following that lead, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Thursday he wants to start dispatching volunteer patrols to schools within a week, according to MyFoxPhoenix.com.

The report emphasized that the plan calls for armed posse members around the perimeters of schools, not inside them. It will focus on about 50 schools within Maricopa County.

Sheriff Arpaio says members of the volunteer posse provide their own equipment and don’t receive a salary, so there’s no cost to taxpayers. But, he says, the volunteers have the experience to handle the job.

"The posse has the same training regarding guns as our regular deputy sheriffs, over 100 hours of training, plus refresher courses," he said. "We should never have a defeatist attitude. We look to the future and take whatever precautions we can do. I don't just want to talk, I like action.”

Arpaio has used similar volunteer groups to patrol malls over the holidays. Posse members arrested 31 people this year, and the sheriff and many other law abiding citizens believe that their presence will help to deter criminal activity.

Way to go Joe and hell yes to this idea. An all volunteer force with law enforcement training, willing to work for free to assist law einforcement in protecting our children and the public. I'm sure the LEO's will welcome the extra support. I wouldn't be surprised to see this catch on.

The state of Utah holding training sessions for teachers to carry guns to protect the children.

Families of the Newtown victims file a lawsuit for 100 million against the state for not doing enough to protect the children and the teachers.

Wonder how news coverage this will get and I really hope politicians and Washington follow closely.

Great addition in the fight against violence, Kudos

I have seen Posse's used out West and they were professional and very effective.
I commend the Sheriff's actions for an immediate response to a possible problem in his area, Kudos Joe.

Sheriff Joe keeps getting elected over and over despite all of his bleeding heart critics. Wonder why? Could it be ideas that the people like instead of pandering to the criminal element?

But...but...but...Joe's a Birther!

Somehow I have forgotten the threads where unequivocal support was given to Sheriff Joe Arpaio when he investigated Obama's 100% phony and forged birth certificate.

It's just so weird to me.....Gun owners are among the citizens with the most to lose when tyrants are allowed to rule, yet they only get vocally upset when it is their ox being gored.

Standing up for the Constitution, the whole Constitution, is likewise standing up for the 2nd Amendment. How is it that in the last 10 or 12 years we have seen "free-speech zones" established out of ear-shot of presidents and other politicians without so much as a whimper from gun owners about 1st Amendment rights being violated?

How is it that no-knock warrants being served, many times to the wrong freakin' house, and family dogs, even Iraq and Afghanistan vets being shot in the process has become routine, yet gun owners sit quietly as the 4th Amendment is being obliterated because they "support law enforcement?"

And how is it that a man who, at best, held dual citizenship at birth, can get away with hiding everything about his background, post provably forged documents online presenting them as official and legitimate, can still be viewed as a legitimate Article II, Section I natural born citizen when even disregarding all the other problems with verifying his origins, there is no way that a dual citizen can be a natural born citizen? And the constitutional originalists, like myself, and now Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who strive to invoke Article II, Section I as it should apply to disqualifying Barry Dunham aka: Barry Soetero aka: Barrack Hussein Obama for the Office of President of the US of A, are vilified as racists, as lunatics, as conspiracy theorists, while gun owners either sit quietly or join in with the vilification....until....wait for it....Sheriff Joe takes a stand against your ox being gored!

If I'm wrong, I'm sure y'all can show me where the thread(s) are where you collectively patted Joe on the back for conducting a thorough investigation of the phony birth certificate, the phony draft card, and the stolen Social Security card number. I'd actually be relieved to see it/them. It would mean that gun owners aren't as brain-dead as I thought.

Here's the story in case the link doesn't work,

On Sunday December 17, 2012, 2 days after the CT shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio to kill his X-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It’s like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant!

Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting?

There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE pulled out her gun and shot the man 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened.

Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week. Just thought you’d like to know.

Very interesting indeed, especially since I live about 60 miles from there and hadn't heard about it.
But it is typical of the biased media.

Had a little trouble finding the first reporting of this item by a print paper for confirmation of the event. San Antonio News reported the incident on December 18, 2012. This is that report in its entirity;

A recent breakup set off a shooting spree that ended with a man wounded at a South Side movie theater before the suspect was shot by an off-duty deputy, authorities said Monday.

Jesus Manuel Garcia, 19, an employee at a China Garden restaurant next to the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 theater, apparently became upset Sunday night after his girlfriend broke up with him.

He lashed out by sending her a message saying he planned to go to the restaurant and “shoot somebody,” said Bexar County sheriff's Sgt. Raymond Pollard.

Pollard said the woman called to warn restaurant employees, but by the time she saw his message, Garcia was already outside the China Garden firing a Glock 23 at the front door about 9:25 p.m.

Garcia went inside, chased people out the back door, and followed one employee as he ran toward the theater, apparently because he was the easiest target, Pollard said.

“He was chasing him, shooting in the air and at other cars,” Pollard said.

He said that when a San Antonio police officer heard the gunshots and pulled into the theater's parking lot, Garcia shot out his patrol car's windshield.

Garcia then pursued the employee into the theater, firing more shots when he reached the lobby, Pollard said.

One of the shots struck a patron in the back, but the bullet did not strike any vital organs and the man was released from San Antonio Military Medical Center later Sunday night.

Bexar County sheriff's Sgt. Lisa Castellano, who was working off-duty as a security guard at the Mayan Palace, chased the gunman toward the back of the theater. The 13-year department veteran cornered him after he ran into a men's restroom, shooting him several times and taking his gun, Pollard said.

Armando Olguin, an off-duty San Antonio Independent School District police officer, restrained him using the sergeant's handcuffs, Pollard said.

Garcia was rushed to SAMMC, where he was in stable condition in the intensive care unit Monday.

Bexar County officials said Castellano was told not to talk to media about the shooting because the investigation is ongoing.

SAISD spokeswoman Leslie Price praised Olguin, a four-year department veteran, calling him an “excellent officer.”

“It sounds like he did all the right things,” Price said.

The shooting immediately sparked fears of a mass slaying like the one in July that killed 12 people and injured 58 at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.

Tara Grace, who was buying a drink from the concession stand when the shooting began, ran into the bathroom and locked herself in a stall with five other patrons to avoid the mayhem.

“We thought we were going to die,” she said.

Cassandra Castillo waited anxiously outside the theater Sunday night for her son, a projectionist at the theater.

“It brings back memories of the other theater shooting, and the elementary school shooting,” she said, referring to Friday's Newtown, Conn., shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead. “You only think the worst.”

A restaurant employee who asked not to be identified said such an attack was out of character for Garcia, known as “Chuy” to coworkers.

“He's a good kid and not violent. He's quiet and minds his own business,” the coworker said. “I have nothing bad to say about him.”

The restaurant's owner declined Monday to talk about the shooting or provide his name, but he did say he planned to reopen the business once the front door is replaced and crews can fix the bullet holes in the walls and windows.

A Santikos spokesman did not return a message seeking comment.

Garcia was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to arrest records. His bail was set at a combined $1 million.

Hollie O'Connor contributed to this report.

Even some on-line venues didn't pick this up until today 12-30-2012. The medias willingness to not report items that don't fit their agenda should be our first clue that we are being lead down the garden path to their idea of utopia. WE must wake up and stand up, be verbal in your protest to anyone and everyone who you have an avenue of contacting. This is an abhorent abuse of the public trust and only we as citizens can rein in these kinds of treachery.

Shame they did not empty another mag in him....Execution assures he will never touch another human life!
