While I don't agree with the conduct of the officer, being a Marine I still love this video. Freaking hilarious. "Do I need to further introduce myself?" You would be praised in the Corps for this but once you're out you have to leave that behavior behind especially as a LEO. Completely inappropriate for the job regardless of how cocky the idiot soldier was.

In Oklahoma, verbal abuse does not justify a physical battery. The kid was a d**k, but the officer, who was stupid for video-ing the encounter was even worse. I hope that this was a training video, and this was the"don't do this" part, cool. If not somebody needs to be let go. This looks like excessive use of force, if I'm on the jury.

The kid was angry because it took the police 45 minutes to arrive. OK, bad attitude.
The cop steped up first in a bilegerent manner and the kid stept up too. That's when the cop upped the attitude.
Ego got in the way on both sides But the cop, a trained professional was not professional. He should loose his job.

Yeah, this cop may have escalated a little faster than was absolutely necessary, but I'm not sure because I can't see him, can't see what else is around. Did he have space behind him to back off to in order to keep distance when this punk stepped up with his belligerent attitude? I don't know. I would not advise stepping into a cops face anywhere with a belligerent posture and attitude. The cop doesn't know what you're going to try and do, and no, he doesn't have to wait to be struck to both protect himself and maintain control of the situation. My heart is just pumping peanut butter for this punk. He got exactly what was coming to him. Sure changed his tone pretty quickly too.

At 35s the cop quickly closes 3 paces, so that he's right in the guy's face... so unless he has a brick wall that follows him, then yes he had the option to back off in order to keep a safe distance. He's the one who closed it in the first place.
Both jackwagons. Punk got his, but Officer Jackwagon deserves some unpaid vacation time and some retraining. Two wrongs don't make a right. Not only that, but if this guy was a real danger, Officer Jackwagon just exposed himself to potential harm. Too much ego on both sides. Both need their wings clipped before they hurt themselves.

Although the kid was acting like a punk, the officer should have shown a little more restraint. The officer was wearing a self-recording video device and somebody from his own department reported him to ABC News. They reported that they received a packet in the mail, which included the police report, a dvd (video of incident) and a detailed report of cowboy and reckless attitudes within the department. Now, you have a News organization (ABC News - I Team) trying to get this cop canned and charged with excessive force. Now, there will be a civil suit against the department, negative media which embarrasses the police department and possibly a suspension without pay or worst termination.
For what??? Showing a punk kid whose Boss! Police Officers must place themselves above the idiots they run across, especially in the age of video taping, because there are people trying to Jam them up. He should have not stepped forward into this kid's face and if this kid was acting in threatening behavior after a verbal warning, then a take down, which includes arrest and charge. No talking about I'm a Marine and do I need to re-introduce myself, it's not worth it.

No verbal warning, nothing. The police officer stepped towards the individual in an angry fashion where this guy was frustrated at the time frame and the fact that he was just assaulted and involved in an attempted robbery.
"I'm not on your timeframe". That's always good to know considering many people are depending on them to be there at a moments notice to assist in these situations. This was way overboard. Yeah, the reservist was a bit belligerent with his comments, but the use of force was absolutely not necessary. The officer could have stepped back to de-escalate, and if the individual came towards him then that's a different story. I agree that this composure would not be appropriate for someone who is carrying because that could escalate even further, but I for one am tired of seeing videos of officers abusing their power. They are not above the people they serve or the laws they enforce.

This cop (former Marine) clearly has a huge chip on his shoulder.
His general attitude and demeanor is a disgrace to the uniform imvho.

Watched first video again several times, watched second video a couple of times, and I'm going to take half a step back from my original post.

1. Yes, the police officer did step towards the man a couple of steps (nothing necessarily wrong with that). It sure still looks to me like the final step forward was taken by the man very close to the officer. Regardless, since the officer had moved forward there was room for him to move back and attempt to defuse the situation and calm this kid down. The officer was wrong for not trying that first. I still think this punk got exactly what was coming to him, but that the officer in this case should not have been the one to give it to him, at least not at that point.

2. It is more disturbing to me to see how the department seems to be handling this. Given the number of police shootings and other complaints alluded to in the second video, it sure looks like this department has all the earmarks of poor leadership and discipline. In order for there to be trust between the police and the community they are there to serve there needs to be a large degree of transparency in how issues like this are handled. I saw only defensiveness and undue secrecy presented to the public via the news reporter. That is not a good sign at all, certainly not of a competently run department.

He got his butt kicked by his former roommates, got his butt handed to him by a cop (inappropriately, in my revised opinion) after needlessly posturing and mouthing off. He now looks like the punk he was acting like in the first video. I guarantee this kid will see trouble again.

I agree the officer should be cuffed read his rights and charged with assault and battery the officer was a former marine and now he is a police officer , if you can not trust the police to obey the law who will. I hope the officer is charged with a crime loses his job and then meets a police officer just like himself. I am not anti cop I am a former combat Marine and a retired disabled police officer.
