Police Officer Slaps U.S. Soldier

Cop slaps soldier...

kid got off easy. most of you guys would have knocked him out the moment he squared off against you. Tell me I'm wrong. why would I let anyone set up on me? should I wait till he knocks my teeth out?

I think your wrong pal. The kid is a punk agreed, but the cop is trained to handle these situations or should be. He needs some time off in my opinion, he was just as big a punk as the kid. I'm a marine, bull. He's a cop now and should act like one. Period...

Sorry, but once a Marine always a Marine. Marines don't retreat they go forward and never back down.
Yes I am a former Marine and a retired Detective Sergeant of Police.

I'm a USN veteran, and I have a lot of respect for the Marines, but Sgt Bill, you cannot treat every situation like a Marine taking a beach head. I was in medicine and surgery, treating prisoners in the state prison system, and the patients in the state mental health system, so I have seen humans behaving badly. When people are wound too tight it is always good to be prepared for imminent violence, however, the smart play is to de-escalate, if possible. There is nothing good that comes from engaging in fisticuffs needlessly.

Two hot heads meeting each other... this is what you get. Sure the kid was a punk, but there were a dozen things the officers SHOULD have done instead of dropping the guy first. The cop should be suspended if not fired, he's a trained "professional". Great, he's a Marine... whoop-di-doo... He's a police officer now, act accordingly.

Bill, no need to be sorry, and thank you for your service. I have all the respect in the world for a marine, but the man is a cop now and not on the battle field. The kid was an up-set idiot granted, soldier or not he was still a snot nosed kid that thought ,rightly so that he wasn't being respected and he was asking for help and not getting it. The officer was wrong, period, and in my opinion made the marines look bad too. I don't think he should be fired, but he needs some time off for his actions, and ego...

Yeah yeah yeah our training changes who we are...what it doesn't do is derive of us of our responsibilities. You say oorah, I say hooah, doesn't mean either of us can just walk around being dicks.

I never said that he was right. I don't make a call unless I was there and observed what was done and or said. I spent some time as an Internal Affairs Sgt. and if he was all wrong then I would be the first to suspend him and put him in for sensitivty training.

I don't completely agree with that. I think the training changes how we act. Most times for the better, sometimes it just makes meatheads meatier. I don't think it changes who we are. At least it didn't for me. If you have morals before hand, the military's not going to change that. If you have no moral standards before hand, the military's not going to give you any either. That's where you get these idiots overseas like that Army SSG leaving the wire in the middle of the night to go murder children and burn their bodies, or the LCpl who decided to video tape himself throwing a puppy over a cliff because he was bored.

This is a case of two assholes failing to act in a non belligerent manner, kid did not assault officer, officer did assault kid and should be filed on. Officer should have remained calm and kept space between he and punk kid both punks in my book.

If that the officer as just kept his mouth shut and not let his ego out, spitting that bit about being a Marine out he would've been fine. Most police departments would've accepted that little leg sweep he did as self defense because the kid stepped up to him. But as soon as he made it clear that he did it out of arrogance, he opened himself up to a world of hurt.
