New from south sound Washington State

:biggrin:31yr old, husband, father of 4, take care of 2 disabled relatives. Been shooting most my life, and been carrying with my CCW for around 2yrs now.I'm 5'7",204lbs,solid & stocky build. My primary carry is a SIG P220 match 10rd. I carry it all the time, even to the shower wrapped in a towel. Member NRA & USCCA. Grew up in a bad part of the city, and now own a house in it. Come from a large family, where most my relatives have seved in all our wars, and in peace-time. Probably the reason I grew up to be a responsible, and hardworking member of society. Came across this group, so I decide I would join some more like-minde people. Glad to be here, hope to share and learn some more info. Thanks to ALL the vets here too, my family all appreciate the service you have provided. God Bless & Stay Safe.

Look up"Windicator" for inexpensive 357Mag/38SP interchange under $300. 2in Barrel Rubber grip. Revolver is safest for new folks then later go to semi. Made in Germany sold in US out of Fla.

SA, DAO, or both

Excellent point, Larry. You're absolutely right--in a defensive situation, you want to be able to simply pull the trigger on a DA revolver or pistol (semi-autos are generally referred to as pistols). But when I'm target shooting, I like to be able to cock the hammer and enjoy the light, short trigger pull that adds so much accuracy to such a short gun. This flexibility is precisely why I chose the 851. The shrouded hammer, as opposed to a concealed hammer, lets you draw from deep concealment without the risk of a hammer hanging up on your clothing, or even fire from within a coat pocket reliably, and STILL give you the ability to cock and fire in SA mode.

Kind of the same token, my Makarov is a SA/DA. When normally carrying the hammer is down; It has a de-cocker safety. The first shot would be double action, but every shot after that would be single action. I have a 357 that I can either shoot single or double. Just depends on the mood and situation. I also love my original Ruger single action revolver. Only a 22, but a blast to shoot (no pun intended).

Hi Folks-

Hi, everyone. I've been reading various threads for a while, and finally decided to join up. I'm a long time NRA member and relatively new CHL holder from Kennedale, TX (southeast of Fort Worth). Been carrying daily since I got it.

Looking forward to participating in some very interesting discussions.

Larry - DA vs SA vs Revolver

Hi Larry. Confusing huh!?! Lot's of good info here. I myself have been carrying concealed for almost 15 years. I had a CCW in California when I lived there for two cycles, and have just renewed mine here in Utah the third time - 10 years - and I carry most every day. The thing that contiually tosses over in my mind is will it be enough to bring down / stop the attack? I have carried mostly revolvers - concealed, but occasionally I have carried pistols. Most common shells I find on the ground when shooting is 9mm. A guy wants to be able to continue when out of ammo if it comes to that. A guy wants to stop the attack! Myself - I feel a 9mm isn't enough to stop the attack - what with the crazed incoherence of druggies out there. Their brain is slow to realize their body parts are being loaded up with lead! There are many articles I have read in police articles which state "the guy just kept coming"!
I just purchased a 10mm and from the balistics I have studied up on, it is easily loaded up to a .357 mag, or even a .41 mag. This is well more than even a .45 auto, and may have enough stopping power without being too much to handle. Mine holds at least 12 - some of the books say it holds 15, and if so, it is a lot of rounds to make sure the attack stops!
I know I am opening up another can of worms, the downside to 10mm is there isn't many around so one would need to have enough ammo for the situation, and some think it is a little heavy on recoil. I hope to test it out this weekend! I will let you all know how it goes.

Thoughts anyone?

Just wanted to say "hello."

Took my conceal/carry live fire this AM and passed with all shots from my CZ M82 in either the 9 or X rings. Not bad for an almost 70 year old yankee now a resident of the great state of North Carolina.

My only problem with the permit here in the tar heel state is that the ID does not have a picture of the person who is the true permit holder.

After 9/11 I would have thought that any such permit would require a photo ID. I know $'s are tight but this seems like a "no brainer."

Any thoughts on this subject out there?
