I've always open carried in hoime depot and have never been questioned about it. It must be something local.UPDATE
This person got his job back. Apparently someone higher on the corporate later thought a law suit against HD over the matter would not be a good decision. The company refused to give him copies of all the papers on the issue but the no firearms signs are gone too, so this ended up well. He was still told not to bring his gun and leave it in the car or to park in the Dicks parking next door.
I work at a HomeDepot in New Mexico, an open carry state. This last Saturday I heard that an employee was being terminated for keeping a firearm in his vehicle while at work. Now we have been "advised" that not only are we not allowed to keep firearms in our vehicles while on the clock but no associate can carry open or conceal carry in the store, even if they have a permit, on their day off if they come shop at HomeDepot. Also, associates can not leave a firearm in the vehicle while shopping at HomeDepot on their day off, to do so will result in termination.
How did the management discover the employee had a gun in his car?
Good afternoon: Thank you for your note. Our policy is that we do not prohibit anyone who is legally permitted to carry firearms from entering our stores, provided the firearms are carried in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
I’m sorry some of the store associates your colleagues spoke with were not familiar with our position.

The Home Depot
I like Lowe's better anyway. HD is always dirty. Isles are blocked with boxes and forklifts.Screw them. There is a new Lowes going in 1½ miles from my house. Bye-Bye Home Depot.
