HomeDepot anti-gun policy

That's the second reason I don't shop at Home Depot.
If you will only buy from businesses who let employees carry you're not going to have many places to shop. Most large companies have the same policy in their employee handbook.

At DuPont, I can have a gun in my vehicle on their parking lot. I can not have it inside the plant, which I feel safer that it isn't allowed. Imagine what a negligent discharge could do in a chemical plant!

At a local Lowe's, my dad saw a guy open carry into the store, get assistance and check out with no resistance or negative comments.

An employer, in most states, can restrict firearms being carried with or without a permit on their property. Since that usually includes their parking lot, they have the right to a "no gun zone". You must make a choice. Either you leave your gun at home, or find another job. The world is not fair, incase you have no been told. But, it is your choice.

Actually, most states exclude parking lots from gun free designations.

True^
I'm sorta screwed with my work. I'm still waiting on my permit.
IL has the parking lot law but I work for the state. They say no guns on state property as well as parking lots. They have already said, don't leave it in ur car if ur parked in the lot. Leave it at home.
It's BS and our union might fight it.

One more reason why I will never live in Illinois.

So do they perform vehicle searches?

No searches.
But it looks like the supervisor that said no exceptions actually doesn't know sh!t and just thinks he does. He didn't actually look up the rule for employees.
I just asked them today.

I, like all shoppers, have a choice of where I spend my money. All businesses want my money, but some decide to make STUPID decisions that go against what I believe in and therefore, they help me to make my choice. I prefer to shop at Lowes (just spent $96 there tonight), and our town's Home Depot is just 1 mile from this store. I chose to get my carry permit and by having it, I CARRY. I'll continue to carry and if a business tells me that I can't come in "carrying", then, no problem................ I'll leave. They made their decisions and I'll make mine.

Carry and be proud of it........... someone has to take responsibility, and it may as well be US!

Seems like an overbearing policy, especially if kept in car. Strange attitude for a Texas Based Company. All the Home Depots I ever saw, are located in shopping centers that they DO NOT own the property. How would they know you have a concealed firearm in your car. It's a stupid unenforceable policy.

The Home Depot by me here in MN has no signs posted. I have CC there with no problem. I have never asked about their policy. But if they ever post a No Guns sign I WILL stop shopping there!!!!

Never seen any signs posted in a Home Depot here. But of course "Concealed means Concealed" remember. Besides I can always go to Lowes.

I have looked pretty good and no sign posted at my local Home Depot, and I concealed carry in there all the time.

My guess is these policies are going to become just about universal since corporations have big HR departments with execs on staff who implement industry-standard human resource management packages. No doubt the people who write these policies are gun restrictionists who feel they can make the case that no corporation would want the liability of having armed personnel onsite in non-security--if not all--positions. I know this does not make sense, but it is how gun prohibitionists think. Then there is the issue of MDA and its ilk pressuring companies to adopt gun restrictionist stances. So plan on eventually encountering this at every box store.

I do not understand the business sense of excluding a potential customer.

As far as employees carrying, I like my Pastor's approach: keep it concealed unless needed. We even have a small group in our church dedicated to 'threat response training' although that is not what we call it. Any business interested in its customers could do the same with its employees without the faith based discussions.

I found some business card size 'no guns= no dollars' with the CCW and handgun background check information on the back somewhere (here?). I have located a few 'firearms prohibited' signs and passed out these to the owner/ manager but anticipate little action. I stirred up things at the school board meeting by giving them the same information...Security took me aside during the meeting to enquire if I was carrying on the premises....No, but I wanted to have the choice.

Wow, honestly I had no idea. I wear concealed whenever I go there. If I caught any gas I'd be gone.

One thought. How the heck are they going to check the cars of EE's. I can't imagine they are going to insist on searching every car of employees. I think they are overstepping their boundaries. Certainly they can insist that their EEs not carry while working but to ban them from cars is waaay overstepping. They owned by Blommie or something? I'd ignore the car part. They simply have no right to go there. You can carry in your car even if you are driving through friggin Illinois.

I have had bad issues with HD. I go to the ACE or the Tractor Store when I can. As often posted CC is still CC. The stores I go to in my town with out exception allow CC/Open Carry.

None of our HDs have a pistol free policy. I CC at all of their local locations.
