Hi Point Firearms

I don't think "overlooking" them has as much to do with it as on-hand availability. Many gun stores simply do not have them in stock with any regularity. The store for which I work (a national chain) carries them, they tend to sell very quickly, but we also get them VERY infrequently. I can literally count on one hand the number of Bersas we have had in-stock in the last year. The other consideration is that we have only seen .380s (they also manufacture 9mm/.40 S&W firearms) come through, and that caliber round is incredibly difficult to find.

Yeah I know. But you don't hear about them as much on gun forums, etc.

These things are the Glocks of South America in terms of popularity, extremely popular. There have been tests with tens of thousands of rounds fired without fail. Stupidly reliable, insanely accurate guns. They aren't "cheap" guns in reality. But they come from Argentina where the US Dollar is really strong. Because of the exchange rate, they end up being pretty affordable for US Citizens.

You just don't hear people talking about them much; unless maybe they are talking about the 380. But they are sweet!

You should search the forums to find out just how not overlooked Bersas are. Even High Points don't get raked over the coals around here, but several regulars and highly experienced shooters do carry Bersas. Me personally, I had one back in the 80's and it was OK, but it got destroyed in a fire. I've never replaced it with another Bersa, but I don't have any knocks on 'em either. I think you'll find that people are much less critical of people's choices of weapons than they are of fanboys coming here trying to convince us that we haven't made valid choices by not buying them.

Well an internet forum is one thing. Guess I'm just talking about being at the range or at the gun store and all the guys who have darn near never heard of Bersa. I'm not saying they are the best thing since sliced bread. But they are darn good for the price and better than some other more expensive weapons.

Hope the fanboy comment wasn't directed at me. I'm a lover of all guns! I don't care what you buy. I'm just saying there are other great low-cost options out there. Perhaps with better bang-for-buck.

Thanks to all for the info, sounds like they are a bit big and bulky for carry. I may look towards a Ruger P95 or something similar.

The Ruger P95 is also big and bulky and has a safety that is hard to activate (just so you know).

I have a Ruger P95 and it is no bigger than nor heavier than my other polymer framed guns.
The safety is an option and when I carry my P95, I leave the safety off.
It is considered a full size duty gun so there are trade offs but mine is very accurate and I enjoy it's constant ability to spit lead down range no matter what I feed it!

Bulky, heavy, UGLY.... but they come with a 100% lifetime guarantee, if it does not work, send it back and they fix it for free..... and usually ship it back with a couple new magazines (free) to boot.... As said above, good truck gun, cheap but does the job, no biggie if it rusts a little or gets some scratches on it.....

I have to agree, I have been out with a couple guys I shoot with. Both of them had the 9mm's, one would pump lead all day long... the other would be lucky to fire off two in a row without a malfunction.
