Anyone have any experience with these, looking at possibly the 9mm for carry on the days I don't want the smith getting beat up.

You get what you pay for. Scour the net and youtube for information on this brand.

That's all I'm going to say about it.

I watched a guy attempt to fire 40 rounds with one. He had at least four or five malfunctions in that time. It's a limited sample size but I wasn't impressed.

I don't want one but I have seen some of the YouTube torture tests done to them!
They sure are blocky but I don't think my high end handguns could take the beatings that the Hi-Points took and STILL managed to pump out rounds down range!
For the price, they are better than a sharp stick and an ugly word!
Just sayin.... Ya know?

Friends with HI-POINTS

Anyone have any experience with these, looking at possibly the 9mm for carry on the days I don't want the smith getting beat up.

I don't have a HI-POINT but I have 2 friends that do. Every time we go out shooting they're guns jam alot. One has a 9mm and the other has a 40mm. My Walther P99 doesn't, just saying. OH and by the way if your planing on carrying concealed they are heavy.

I have fired several of their handguns and found them surprisingly accurate, functional and reliable... no kidding. They are big, blocky and heavy.... I would not consider one for CCW but, as a truck gun, night stand gun or any other around the house sorta piece I think it would be fine. I've seen videos of them being POS's and I've seen videos of them ticking like clockwork.... so, that should tell you that you need to buy one and figure out what sort you have. I have pondered picking one up for awhile but my weapons-priorities are elsewhere... but, the thought is still there.

I'd say get one, then let us know how it goes!

Bulky, heavy, UGLY.... but they come with a 100% lifetime guarantee, if it does not work, send it back and they fix it for free..... and usually ship it back with a couple new magazines (free) to boot.... As said above, good truck gun, cheap but does the job, no biggie if it rusts a little or gets some scratches on it.....

Better than a baseball bat for home defense.

UTTERLY miserable for concealed carry. To understand why, you have to understand how they work.

You're talking about a pure blowback 9x19mm. That's a tough design challenge... even tougher at that price point. The options are:
  1. MASSIVE slide to provide enough inertia to allow the bullet to leave the muzzle before the action opens.
  2. INSANELY heavy recoil/hammer spring to accomplish the same thing.
  3. As the Brits would say, some sort of "jiggery, pokery" to trick the case into staying in the chamber longer, like annular grooves in the chamber.
Hi Point went with #1, which makes all of their > .380acp guns REALLY unwieldy.

If you want a cheap 9x19mm CCW gun, look for used police guns, especially Glock 19s and SIGs; Walther P-1s and P-38s; Beretta 951s and clones; or some of the Turkish imports.

You get what you pay for, and you're not paying much for the Hi Point. Why carry something with the dimensions, and handling characteristics of a 1960 vintage electric drill when for not much more money, you can get something better that won't print like a conjoined twin when you carry it IWB?

That and Taurus sell the 100% warranty. What good dies that do if you have to keep sending back to manufacture.

Fun fact it's expensive to ship handguns second day air. The manufacture will usually cover shipping it back to you or sometimes to the factory as well, at sometime your probably going to have to fork out $40-70. That inexpensive fun suddenly cost a lot more.

Sig2022 is a great gun and can be bought offline for $360-400

I have a 380 and a 45, both heavy and ugly. I have put about 500 rounds thru each and the only problem is when my wife limp wristed them. they will jam. As stated great truck gun and bedside weapons. Not ashamed to say I own two.

I have 3 pistols...a 380 and 2 9mm as well as 3 of the carbines. Never had an issue with any of them. Always go bang and very accurate. The carbines are a load of fun to shoot. You won't make a mistake with a hi point. They don't have a lot of snob appeal but if that is what you are looking for you won't have any guarantees with a thousand dollar pistol either. Save your money and get a hi point. They may be a bit bulky to carry. I also have much more expensive firearms but for fun at the range the hi point does the trick and I ain't gotta worry about it getting banged up.

Heh, I always hear sh!t about Taurus guns but, I currently own four (traded the 5th, a PT92) and to date they are some of the best handguns I've ever owned. In fact, I was comparing a friend's Kimber 1911 to my PT 1911 AR and I was shocked at how SIMILAR they were! In both form and function... I found very, very little difference between the American made, thousand dollar gun and the cheap Brazilian piece of junk! I'm not bashing Kimber here, just sharing an observation. Also, the TCP is one of my two EDC options and it's one of the best pistols I've ever owned... over 1,000 rounds through it and still nothing wrong.

I haven't had any experience with Hi Point, but Cobra has a great inexpensive 9mm that's real nice. the Patriot line is nice. Don't let people tell you Cobra are junk. I trust my life with one and it is accurate, reliable, and cost effective.

What if this happens, and you're dead? I suppose your survivors can send it back...................if it wasn't removed from your cold dead hand by the perp.

I have seen way too many problems to even buy one. My firearms all fit into a duty role for me (for now anyway), so I don't buy stuff I don't trust with my life

I have owned 3 hi-points, the .380. 9mm compact and the .40 (the original JCP, about 25 years old when I got it). I can tell you that my experience with hi-point has been excellent. They have been accurate, dependable firearms for me. I carried my 9mm as my EDC for the first two years I had my CPL, so yes, I trusted my life with it. Only once did I have an issue with my .40. It was a firearm I inherited from a relative who had never cared for it; it was essentially a smooth bore when I got it. I spent 2 hours cleaning the barrel. To my surprise, despite all the buildup, there was no damage to the barrel. However, because of the lack of care, there was unusual wear to the slide, and I had all sorts of feed issues with it. I called hi-point. No questions asked, I was instructed to send it in. about 10 days later, I got it back. They replaced the slide, polished the feed ramp, and, oh yeah, because I had to be inconvenienced by sending in a firearm of which I was not the original owner and which had been damaged through gross misuse, they also threw in a free mag.

I have nothing but good to say about hi-points. I recommend them highly, especially those produced in recent years.

And BTW, you don't have to send a malfunctioning firearm back to the manufacturer second day air. The law provides for sending malfunctioning firearms through the USPS, which is what I did with my malfunctioning hi-point per the instructions I received from them. I sent it back priority flat rate using one of the flat rate boxes through the USPS.
