Tell or not to Tell

I am in Pa and I have a legal CCW permit and have my handgun under my carseat.
Under the carseat is a very poor spot for a gun. Accesibility (time) is everything and I strongly recomend finding another way to carry your gun while driving.

I obey the law, no more and no less. In Ohio, I inform, and in PA, I do not. Volunteering unsolicited and non-required information can be perceived suspiciously.

Not required here in New York, but as a General rule I do notify, and give them my permit when I hand Drivers License to Officer. The 2 times I jave been pulled over, producing my CCW has gotten me out of 2 tickets

I would hand the officer my license and CHL at the same time. While my state has no requirement to notify, many other states that we have reciprocity with do require notification. It is the best way to say "I have a weapon and I am legally carrying" without saying a word. Instead of saying "uh...I have a loaded gun on me, do you want to see my permit?" I've been lucky not to have been stopped within the last 20 years. However, I have family that have been stopped and used this method. The only statement from the LEO is "Please leave the weapon where it is."

Here is the solution to this question:
After being pulled over, ask the officer, "Sir, would you like me to notify you about my pistol?" If he says yes then reply "Okay I have a pistol".
If he says no, then reply "Okay sir, I will not notify you about the pistol on my belt".

I see nothing in this message saying you were being sarcastic. You should stop posting stupid posts, it makes you look bad.
(*SARCASM* for those that would get confused aka the answer to the first question)

BTW your post made me chuckle.

Three pages and no reply from NavyLCDR. Must be a busy day at the office.

I was just thinking that.

And for those of you who don't know, Navy would say that there is no earthly reason to inform, and that there are plenty of other professions more dangerous than being a cop. Also, that the potential of having to produce your weapon creates far more danger than just keeping it secured. Only, he would describe it much more logically and precisely than I just did.

Jeez, I hope he's not sitting in jail for a drunken disorderly or something :)

You left an option out of the poll, so I could not vote. The option that needs to be added to the poll is, "Inform the officer only when required to do so by law."

The rest of the discussion is more than likely just beating the long dead horse...

Law in Texas has been revised. You don't have to voluntarily inform, however CHL is linked to DL on officer's computer, so if he asks, better tell him the truth, cause he already knows if you have a CHL, and if so, he'll assume you're carrying.

I live in Michigan also and will follow the law. In other States, such as Indiana, it would depend on the situation. Obviously if I was asked to step out of the car I would notify them.

HAHA! I should have read at least the reply above mine before I posted. :-). I returned from a manning conference in Millington TN where I have been for eairlier this week.

As a practice, I keep my drivers license and my CCW in the same slot of my wallet. It hasn't happened yet but if I do get pulled over, both will be handed to the officer and I will place both hands on the wheel. When he inquires to a weapon in the car, i will respond with "how do you want to proceed?".

I just hope it never happens.

Sarcasm? Hmm, havent heard of that before.

:D:DWhen the LEO asks where your gun is, say "Right here in my pocket, next to my junk! Wanna see it?"
Do it, I dare you!
Edited: Trouble with emoticon, tried to do a laughing face

That's pretty true in the sense that I think that was the first sarcastic remark I can recall from you.

In Missouri, a concealed permit is an "endorsement" on residents' driver license. It seems to also appear when a vehicle registered to a licensee is run.
My daughter used to work as a dispatcher for the county sheriff/911 office and drove a car registered to me. One of the new Hwy Patrol troopers was checking her out and ran her vehicle plate which came back as belonging to me AND showed I had a CCW. The young trooper seemed a little "put off" as she called it when he found out Daddy packs a popper.

In PA, it's not required, no reason to mention it.

In Michigan we tell the officer we are licenced and whether we are carrieing at the time.

Why bring it up at all if you are not armed at the time???

Law was revised as far as eliminating the penalty...the law itself still exists.

GC §411.205. REQUIREMENT TO DISPLAY LICENSE. (a) If a li-
cense holder is carrying a handgun on or about the license holder's
person when a magistrate or a peace officer demands that the license
holder display identification, the license holder shall display both the li-
cense holder's driver's license or identification certificate issued by the
department and the license holder's handgun license.

Did you inform the front desk person at the hotel that you were carrying? After all, it's for their safety?

Yes, I did. They had a little status board behind the desk with the room numbers and little magnetic guns. She put one of the guns over my room number. She said not to worry, in the event of robberies, that would direct the criminals to the rooms farthest away from the guns.
