ATF Valentine's Day Massacre - Say Goodbye to M855 Ammo (and others too)

Remove the BATFE from the roster of government backed yes men.

What a legacy of crime and corruption this court of fools has become, at their seniors' bidding?

Ban the BATFE. They have become worthless, lying, law-breaking pawns to an equally corrupt administration.

While getting rid of the ATF sounds good, it will never happen. Name me one LARGE government agency that was eliminated, AFTER it was well established? It just doesn't happen.

Yep read that too but on NSSF.

ATF announced today that it will not move forward with its proposed framework to ban commonplace 5.56 M855 "green tip" ammunition at this time while it reviews the record number (more than 80,000) comments it has received so far. ATF will continue to accept comments through March 16. NSSF, as the trade association for the firearms industry, looks forward to engaging in a dialogue with ATF to address this issue that led to the now withdrawn proposal. Our industry members hope to meet consumer demand in bringing alternative ammunition products to the market and to continue to sell the popular M855 rifle target ammunition. NSSF continues to strongly urge ATF to grant 32 long-pending petitions to exempt alternative rifle ammunition designed and intended for the hunting market.

So who were all the naysayers that said that the ATF would just do what they were gonna do and that writing them was futile?

I don't recall if I said anything specifically about writing, I don't think I did, but whatever, I didn't write because nothing I would've said would've been accepted as valid by them, and nothing they say will ever be accepted as valid by me. Until somebody shows me where in the Constitution I can find authority for such a bureaucracy with nearly unlimited regulatory powers, anything any one of them says or does will be invalid in my view.

The point is not that a bunch of people wrote and they changed their mind (for now), the point is that they have the authority, backed by the lazy bastards of Congress and the black-robed oligarchs of SCOTUS, to refuse to change their minds and enforce any shithouse "law" they can conjure up in their power-drunk, gun-grabbing minds.

If they hadn't changed their minds, would you think the "naysayers" had any more of point in thinking writing was futile? The fact that the BATFE has the authority to grant or deny callers'/writers' demands pretty much substantiates that making demands of them is futile, while there is nothing to substantiate that the "naysayers" were wrong in believing the truth of that futility. The problem isn't "naysayers," the problem is overreaching, unconstitutional government.

Normally I would agree with you. But this time I would have been proven as wrong as you are. There is hope yet. I say that because it is all but certain if no one had written in voicing their complains, this ban would have materialized. It didn't because of the peoples opposition. The facts are simple. Obama wanted this ammunition banned. The ATF was none too happy to agree. Then in came over 80,000+ letters and E-Mails voicing opposition to this ban. Not to mention over 100 Congressmen signing a letter saying they would fight it at the highest levels of government. Final score: The People 1 - Obama 0. The ATF is a regulatory government entity. They LOVE to regulate...... Except this time. The people are the reason why. And for what it's worth, I never thought I would be here typing this.... But I sure as hell am glad I am!

Actually they forbid it to happen.

I think we misunderstand each other billt. When I said we allow it to happen means we the people allow these agencies to sprout up without contesting them as being unconstitutional and not that they would listen anyway but since the early part of the 20th century we were hijacked by a banking cartel who owns and controls the fed govt and we have been slowly and surely becoming enslaved to them.

Understood. But "We the People" must remember that with every new government agency created, it is going to grow like a cancer that is even more expensive to treat, and will never be cured, or gotten rid of. Look at The Department Of Homeland Security. It didn't exist before 9/11. Look at what it has grown into. Remember, we have a military who's job it is to protect the "homeland". They been doing it for centuries. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, U.S. Marshall Service. Not to mention tens of thousands of police depts., county sheriff depts., FBI, CIA, and on and on. And if they could create another one tomorrow, they would do so in a heartbeat.
