I can’t imagine a successful AWB. First I think there are a lot more gun owners in this country than the official count of 80 million. Second I doubt very seriously that a significant percentage of them would comply if such a ban were passed.

I can also see a couple of states refusing to allow the law to be enforced within their state.

All an AWB would accomplish is causing a huge Constitutional crisis and I think Obama and Co. know it.

States have their own laws. CA has a super majority of liberals in their state legislature - they can pass anything they want. And they probably will.

I don't see one passing in PA or a number of other states. CA and IL might have them.

What is your source for that statistic? If you read the California forums you will see that they have found ways to toe the line but not cross it. They do things like use off list lowers (a California thing) or bullet buttons to be compliant and not legally be "assault weapons".

How would they know anyway.....?

The AWB was to target semi auto military style rifles with a set number a features, your AR is almost guaraunted to violate it, unless its a stripped featureless gun. This is the problem, people need to be aware of the way these laws work. It WILL affect way more people that you thing. Assault Rifle does NOT mean full auto!

Say what? The Republicans in the House voted Nay except 1. The vote was 220 to 215 with 39 Dems joining 176 Reps in the Nay votes for the AHA. From the Senate they got the PPACA version known as Obamacare and it was rejected in the House by the Reps, as amended, by 178 voting Republicans.

- The Arms Trade Treaty has nothing to do with restricting the legal sale or ownership of guns within the US. As the name implies, the aim is to combat the illegal international trade of arms by setting international standards for import, export & transfer

- No treaty could bypass the legislative powers in Congress & must be approved by a two-thirds vote of the Senate

- Reid v. Covert in 1957 established that the Constitution supersedes international treaties

The Constitution isn't doing too good of a job in NY,NJ,CA,MD,MA protecting their rights! So why would it in this situation? Maybe you need to be from a police state like I am (MA) too understand how bad stuff ALREADY is. When the law makers, cops and courts all ignore your rights, illegal or not, right or wrong, your still a felon, still in jail. So YES there a a VERY good reason to have our panties in a bunch!
