carry while riding motorcycle

There are numerous threads on this all ready, but I do know the search function isn't that easy to use.
My suggestion, use whatever holster you normally use. I would not get an additional holster that I would have to transition my firearm to so I can reach it with my left hand because the right use uses the throttle. I can't imagine a situation where you would have to shoot while using the throttle. Can you? If you are moving, it would be better to focus on accelerating (or stopping) to get out of the danger, than to divide your attention on drawing while keeping your bike upright. If you are stopped, you will either accelerate out of danger, or get off your bike and draw.
I use a fobus level II retention holster on my weapon side (right side since I am right handed). I went with a level II just for confidence that it wont go anywhere if I am involved in a crash. I carry openly because proper motorcycle gear is too restrictive to conceal and be able to get to my firearm if I need it.
Some people don't have an issue with getting their gloved hand into a jacket pocket to get their concealed firearm, I can't do that.

i use a blackhawk serpa 2 holster for carry. have a left side, rotated foward for rt. hand crossdraw, or i also use the same holster in a rt. hand carry. this is always worn strong side 3-4 o'clock posistion. my daily carry is a kimber ultra carry, i keep a spare mag in each of my front cargo pockets, so i can access them from either side. also practice shootin offhand(left), as much as i do strong hand, and can shoot well with either hand.
been riding for 20 years, have 3 different style's of bikes, a old 67 flh bobber, an 06 nitetrain, & a 883 sportster. what icarry, & how depends on many factors. i agree with the above poster's. if i'm rollin, i will find a safe area to pull over, then stand my ground if needed. shooting while riding will just add too many negative factors to a self defense scenario. peace through strength, larry

I wear a vest that has deep inside pockets on both sides that snap closed. Inside the pockets are elastic straps that go over the gun barrel and keep the gun in the proper position. The vest was made for police undercover and cost about $79 a few years ago. It is a very nice vest and has held up very well.
An inside the waistband is the way to go. On facebook, check out Veteran Holster. I use one on my bike and it's so comfortable I sometimes find myself reaching back to ensure it's still there. This may seem off top[ic, but it really is about a holster. I saw an ad for a belly bandholster taht says it can handle small to medium frame autos. Iy may sdeem sort of stupid, but I have a Springfield XD40and no one can tell me if it is a medium or large frame auto. I want to try the belly band, but I don't want to have to buy it, only to find out my gun won't fit in it. Thnx.

No holster involved in this suggestion. I ride every day, but because employed at the federal level, am not allowed to carry at, in, around, on, or during work. But, when do carry on two wheels, use the Select Carry Pistol Pouch from the NRAstore.com. Is right or left, and as mentioned, when on two wheels it is best to dash away quickly, evade or loose them. Unless at a stop light or sign, and also as mentioned, practice with off hand when possible, to create that motor memory. There are also many nice vest for concealed carry in the NRAstore.com. As mentioned, not to promote, just a suggestion, ITS PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION.

No one ever said a thing about doing a shoot out at 120 on a bike. Obviously that's a difficult maneuver especially for right handers but say you are out for a ride and stop in an unfamiliar town for some gas and a soda and some douchebag with a knife tries to separate you from your money and cycle. That's where the gun comes in. Why you jumping on Rich Rob's back? He was just askin a question, instead welcome him to the forum.

Sorry but if your strongside is your right side you should plan on a strongside holster...
what would ever cause you to draw and need to fire while riding...
what good is your throttle hand being free if your cluch hand is not...are you going to drop the gun in the street to stop...
Escape and evade is your best option IMO...if your already movin you have the best odds already
Look up US1 leather...they are in Danvers Mass they make some of the best AMERICAN made leather you will find...they make a concealment vest that is AWESOME...
You will need to call on that as they dont show is on their site...

I think a few of you missed his point. I wouldn't be shooting from the back of a motorcycle any more the I would be shooting out the window of my truck going down the road. I think his point was more about keeping it secured and concealed while on the road. I use my regular IWB right hand holster, but when I'm on a road trip on the bike I move it to my left side at about 10:30 position, in a cross draw. I've road many thousands of miles this way, it's very comfortable, and if the bike goes down I'm not landing on it.

While I agree there is many points to figuring out how to carry while riding, I don't think anyone missed the point that I underlined in the OP. Why need it accessible for the left hand draw? Maybe he is left handed...but then the right hand being on the throttle would not need to have been brought up.

I have'nt rode in a long time, But the few times I did, I wore an Nylon shoulder Holster with tie down straps that secured it to my belt from Uncle Mikes. It seem to best fit my needs wether under my Jacket, or Vest depending on the Weather.
I went with Nylon, because it was less Rigid than leather. It seemed to Contour to my body better,and kept my Weapon more Concealed. Leather Shoulder Holsters are stiff, and seem to stick out worse than Nylon In my Opionion.
Wish I still had my Ole FLH, But 4 Kids later Well you know the Story. Had to sell it when Wife became Pregnant. Used the Money for Down Payment on our First house. Which we still live in Today.

I agree with others that you shouldn’t be too concerned with accessing your firearm while operating your bike. The best advice for carry is to carry the weapon in the same location as you normally carry because of muscle memory. Under a stressful situation you will automatically go for your weapon where you normally keep it. With the SP101 I have a belt slide holster with thumb snap that rides high. This holster can be easily concealed with an un-tucked relatively long t-shirt. You just might have to sit on the back of the shirt to keep it from blowing up and exposing you gun while riding. I had an xd 40 and now have a glock 23. I did not like the way they felt in the belly band. I'm also 215 lbs, 6'1" to give you some idea of how it would be positioned.
My S&W snubbie feels good in it and my Sig P238 feels good in it as well. But deep cover for those guns is putting them in a pocket holster so I ended up not using the belly band except when I travel for some extra protection for money and other papers.
