Waffle House Shooting (Good Guy Wins)

I was involved in a SD incident several years ago the thing that stands out in my memory the most is the physical effects of the adrenalin dump on me. I got tunnel vision, my heart rate was (probably) around 150 I experienced auditory exclusion and I remember the sights being crystal clear while the “bad guy” was just a blob and I never fired a shot. I can’t imagine what the adrenalin effect would be if it was an actual gunfight.

There is a moderator on THR that suggests that you take your carry piece to the range and before you shoot do some jumping jacks until your heart rate hits 140+ then try to hit that target.

My point is I’m not going to even try it unless I don’t have a choice and I think that’s what Rich and B are saying as well.

On the other hand some of you sound like you can’t wait to start the fight, that’s crazy to me.

The fact that I have a CHP confers neither law enforcement authority on me nor any legal duty to respond. If you didn’t think your safety was important enough to get your own CHP I’m not obligated to defend you.
Again, unless I am convinced that the bad guy is going to shoot I’m not going to intervene. If it looks like he’s just after the money I believe the safest thing for everyone is for him to get it and go. Waffle House pays lots of money for their insurance let's let them get some good out of it.

And under no circumstance would I draw my weapon in an attempt to detain the robber, If the gun comes out I’m going to start shooting unless he drops his piece and hits the floor immediately and I’m not giving him any warning.

FWIW it is taken for granted by every bank guard I ever met in Colorado that if they ever actually draw their sidearms they will be fired regardless of justification.

Not just armed guards. Most, if not all, banks have a resist-and-you're-fired policy towards all their employees. We discussed it on this site concerning a teller (in Seattle if I remember correctly) who was fired for chasing a robber. He was fired because his aggressive action escalated the situation.

Hmmmmmm ..... now your story changes. Statistically that man only wants your stuff and to be on his way, you claimed so yourself.

I stand by that. I also said I wouldn't hesitate to shoot if the perp started shooting or tried to take me (or family) hostage. Go back and read my posts.

Saying that some are looking for a fight is answered by others leaving behind a stream of piddle as they streak for the back door.

Both are the extreme and I done think most people here fit fully into either.

I can say for myself that I have a deep seated respect for innocent life. If I find myself in a situation where I can help someone else I feel that I may need to do so. But I have to temper that response with what the results may be. If the thief is calm and it looks like he may just leave with the 30$ that keeps being mentioned then yes my response will probable be limited to getting ready but never showing my gun. But if the situation is more serious I will have to make a serious decision at that time.

Too little too late, but you're never going to admit that until it's too late.

I could agree with that. Good post. I feel the way this case is told, it had entered that serious decision stage.

You and your girlfriend RICH_S sound like two metrosexual products of the MTV generation who have elected to have your testosterone producers sacrificially removed at the alter of "political correctness".
Maybe you should come to SC and learn how real men deal with having a gun pointed at them.
Better yet maybe you should go back to NJ where you will be closer to RICH_S and the two of you ladies can play house.

A real man would teach me? Who exactly did you have in mind?
