Rank

Regular Army Captain when disability retired (30%) in 1984. (Got hurt on deployment to N. Africa) 12C/12A (Cavalry/Armor) Primary, 35A (Tactical Intelligence) Secondary.

E-5 (GM2) USCG. (OK let the jokes commence, but when you watch film of the Marines landing on a beach in WWII...remember the guy standing up in the back driving the boat was probably CG) OBTW the pix in my avatar is a 81mm/.50cal mount which was deployed on USCG 82ft. Point-class cutters in Vietnam. They can be drop fired or the firing pin can be cocked and fired by a trigger. Out to 3000yds the ballistics are the same as a M2. Against sampans you just walked the M2s tracer into the boat then sent a little 81mm love along as well.

E4

Drafted during the Viet Nam War, but made the most of it.
Basic at Fort Kox, AIT at Fort Ord, Jump Wings at Fort Benning, Rigger Wings at Fort Lee then back to Benning for the rest of the tour. The Army was the best thing that ever happened to me. Our next generation would benifit from finding out how to take care of themselves. Might be too late!

You won't hear any jokes from anybody. You proudly served your country. That isnt anything to joke about. I always thought people would make fun of me about being in the Air Force during Vietnam. I have 2 tours there in the Air Force. 1 guy made a joke about it until I told him I was Pararescue.

Just a repsonse to USCG and the Jarhead

:pleasantry:

Okay guys. Now that we've broken the ice, the only ones I ever had make fun of me were my frigging peers. And it wasn't really making fun as much as it was being inconsiderate, insensitive, and out-and-out stupid. Stuff like, "Dang Frank! Where you been? Hawaii? Florida? That's a GREAT! tan." Or, "Man where in he** you been? I been trying to find you for a month now and couldn't find your phone number at all. Did you get it unlisted?" And my personal favorite . . . "You must have been on vacation? Right? Especially with that dark tan. Why, I bet you were in Mexico and the Caribbean Islands weren't you?" That came from a family member whose son had been back from 'Nam all of 10 months ahead of me.

The one who hurt was my grandfather. His remarks were, "Now Son, I know you been away at war and all. And I imagine you been shot at, or heard shots fired in anger. But let me tell you right now. I don't wanna' hear a g**d**n thing about no Vietnam. I know what you did over there and you weren't in no da**ed war. Compared to me and my friends you were at a Boy Scout summer Camp. We fought a war by god! We fought WWII! You didn't do nothing but some da**ed Vietnam.

What's my point? We each went through some sort of B.S. just like you were getting at C.G., or you wouldn't have mentioned it. Well Brother, the Marine brother was kiddin' He was welcoming you home just as I. Welcome home C.G.! Welcome home!

And Marine Brother - you too. I know, as an Army corpsman, the marines were roughed out in country. Y'all had it hard Brother. But . . . you too Bro. Welcome Home! And thanks guys, and to all who might read this, thanks! Thanks for the sacrifices and the selfless service in Vietnam. God bless you, one and all.
