what should i do now?

Hi princess, I dont know how the gun shows operate in NC, but here the shows are no deal at all, in fact at time your likely to pay more, depending on what you want, I assume you want a good gun that wont cost a fortune, easy to operate, shoot, clean, the Glocks are tough to beat, for you I would suggest a Gen 3 G-19 its a 9mm, good mag compacity, very easy to use, the G-23 is the same gun in 40 cal, just a touch more recoil, but not bad, another goos choice for the money is the Springfield XD9 subcompact, a little shorter than the G-19, but has a good feel, if you have no gun shops there that you can trust, cluzner suggested Buds, go to there websight and ck out what they have, shipping is free, it just has to be shipped to a dealer, and you pay them there tranfer fee and backround ck, and I can all but garranty it will be cheaper than buying at a gunshow, there is another possable way to get something and not get screwed, I have to find his websight, I will PM you
Thanks Rocketgeezer, I have purchased a ticket so I am definitely going. At least by going, it will help me to figure out which one works for me. These guys at the gunshow probably try to screw over the new people. I will check out the website now. Thanks again!!!

superprincess you can always buy with a credit card from BudsGunShop.com online. I purchased a gun from Buds and had no problem. IMHO I still believe a Bersa Thunder .22 would be an excellent purchase, then later buy a Bersa Thunder .380. Both are the same size, weight etc, so switching from the .22 to the .380 would be smooth.

But whatever you decide I'm sure you will do well.

:dance3:
Thanks cluznar, this is a really tough decision, because I see to many really nice ones online. I am really excited about the
gun show. Have you been to one, are camera's allowed???

Cameras are allowed at some, and not at others I've been to. Also you will find virtually EVERY gun at the show, ranging from 150 year old blackpowder rifles and muskets, to the latest generation of AR-15/G36. In VA we also have a lot of fully-automatic firearms at ours given that it IS legal to own them. The last show I went to had a Tommy gun from the 1920s, a BAR, and even an MG-42 (German WW2 machine gun) for sale... of course the cheapest one was around $8000... >_>

Lol...I will not be carrying that much money! Hopefully I can take my camera and get some good pictures.

Princess,

New and used at gun shows and cameras are frowned upon.

You should recruit someone to go with you as an adviser IMO.
Thanks Sir Diealotz, I will leave my camera at home. Wouldn't want to upset anyone at the show. There are two friends going with me, I have purchased my ticket online. Hopefully they have also, maybe I should ask them. I don't like waiting in long lines.

Princess, there will be lots and lots of guns at the show, new and used. I agree with other posts that you may not find the best deals but if you are good at negotiating and you see something you want and the individual wants or needs to sell then you just may get a good deal. I don't think I would buy a used weapon at the show without first firing it and since this won't happen I would suggest sticking to new and getting the factory warranties. I'm primarily going to look for a CC holster I have seen on line and the manufacturer is to be at the show. Also I wanted to look at more guns. There will be a large asortment of all shapes and sizes. This will help me decide what I really want for a second carry weapon. Yeh I'll look for a deal. I have been to several of the local gunshops so have a pretty good Idea what will be a good deal or not. Locals may not stock what you are looking for but they can get what ever you want. There have been lots of good suggestions for carry weapons, maybe you have already done this but Youtube has thousands of videos on various weapons, how to break them down how to clean, how they shoot, reviews, etc. Might be helpful in your desicion making process. have a great day.

Thanks Bill, I am going on Saturday, maybe I will run into you there. Youtube does have some good videos, I have seen a couple of gun reviews, which has made my decision even tougher. I wish I had more gun money. I hope you had a great day. Mine is better now that work is finished. :)

Have you tried out many different models at stores yet? If so let us know which ones you liked and what you liked about them. It's possible we can get you some other model names/numbers that are similar to ones you've liked to help focus your search a bit more.

Yep , I'll be there. Saturday as well, not sure what time. I'll look for you though and hope to see you. Gun Money!!!!! Remember you get what you pay for girl !!!!! Obviously look at what your budget allows and how comfortable it is, but also consider what might save your life, I agree, so many choices. I hate it for you, the decision and choices I mean.Ultimately you are the final word in what you want to carry to protect yourself with. It was easy for me, the biggest damn gun I could hang on my belt. Take Care

Thanks Numenor, I did try out a Springfield Armory XD, but I wasn't impressed with the failure to feed which happened a couple of times. I tried a 22, it was very easy to load and shoot. But I believe it was easier to hit the target with the 9mm, than it was the 22. The review I saw online was very impressive, it was for a S&W M&P compact 9mm. This one has a view window so you can see if it has one in the chamber. It is very easy to disassemble, also uses a 12 or 17 mag. There is a shorter trigger travel than the Glock. Mostly what I would like is something which is dependable, and not to large so I can conceal carry whenevery I go out. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Bill, I agree you do get what you pay for. Quality will be better than quantity is probably the best way to go. I think I like the S&W M&P and Colt .380 both are very impressive. I don't think I would want the biggest because it would be to hard for me to conceal. Are you happy with your purchase???

The M&P is a damn fine firearm. I own and carry a fullsize M&P 9, and I love it. It's easy to field strip and clean, I have about 1,000 rounds through it of various brands of ammo. I haven't had a single malfunction. If you went with a M&P you would not regret it.

Thanks RJ_Whitlock, This one is definitely on my list and I am glad to hear you haven't had any malfunctions. You just gave S&W a very good review. I saw a gun review online and it looked very easy to disassemble. How is the safety, online it looked a little to easy to release. So would you consider this S&W M&P compact 9mm a good concealed carry?

My fullsize doesn't have an active safety just the trigger one. The Compact would make a great CC weapon for you, like others have said it's up to you on what you want. I really do recommend the M&P line.

I am very pleased with my first choice for a carry weapon, SW M&P 40C, I chose this because of the way it fit in my hand. I read many reviews and watched numerous videos which allowed me to narrow my decision to SW, Glock or Colt. Didn't want the .45 to target practice with, not yet anyways. I have about 500 rounds through mine so far and zero problems. I clean and oil it after every visit to the range. So far for target pratice have been using the Winchester 160 grain rounds but intend on trying other brands as well to see if I get the same performance. I have several other brands in hollow points and grains sizes as well but want to get a little better as these cost more so don't want to waste them out side of the bulls eye. My pistol does not have a thumb safety either, there are some that don't like this feature but others do. If I have to pull it in a defencive situation, I am comfortable with the trigger safety and that it will not fire until the trigger is pulled. All depends on your comfort level and how one intends to carry this type of weapon. As mentioned below the M&P series is a fine weapon, Decent price, dependable, reliable and deadly accurate with some practice. One thing I just realized is that I don't recall ever seeing mention of how you intend to carry your weapon. Belt, pocket, purse??? I won't speak for anyone else on this thread but I guess it's just a man thing and I never considered anything other than inside the belt carry. Not to add confusion but my thought was if you are going to carry in your purse for example, you might want to think about the type of weapon you can get to quickly and safely as well as draw and fire quickly and safely in an emergency situation. Just a thought.

Thanks, I will definitely check it out at the gunshow! This may sound like a stupid question, do some fullsize come with the active safety or is it optional???

Thanks, I believe the more safety the better. Also I am trying to stop carrying a purse or bag permanently, because it may attract criminals. So if someone grabbed my bag they would also have my weapon, it is probably not a good idea to purse carry.
Thanks for the excellent review for the M&P!

Superprincess don't let a few thugs dictate how you live. If you feel like carrying a purse you can do so confidently. They make purses specifically for carrying a gun, and if someone were to grab the purse you can still pull the gun out of the purse without opening the purse.

Both the fullsize or compact come with active thumb safety. It's up to you which one you want, I like the one without it because it makes the gun more lower profile and not as thick. As I'm sure you seen in the vids you seen online, the thumb safety is a bit big and sticks out pretty far.
