what should i do now?

Put another 150 down range yesterday with my Bersa Thunder .380... had a box of Blazer ammo and found out it does not like Blazer, must be the aluminum case on the round. had 2 failures to feed. No more Blazer, but it shot everything else well especially my Hornady Critical Defense ammo, the Bersa likes that stuff.

:dance3:

That just proves the point made several times in forums, "different guns like different ammo" I have both a Thunder 380 and a Thunder 380 CC, and both of them fire Blazer aluminum without a failure of any kind. Just another one of those things that make you go Hmmmmm. :fie:

Thanks Rocketgeezer, The ccw class I attended had 13 people, and half of them were women. It seems like the more ccwp they issue and announce on the national news, the more the crime rate would go down. Does this sound like a reasonable assumption???

Its more than a assumption, I go to training schools for work, in Kennessaw GA, some years ago the guys that live there said the city fathers recamended that all households have a working firearm in the home, for protection, no permit of any kind nessesary, within months the crime rate dropped

I suppose, it is always best to go with the manufacturers recommendation.

If I was president, I would recommend every household have a firearm and a safe, if they couldn't afford it, then give a sum of money to help the citizens pay for their firearm. Where would I come up with the money?? I would eliminate half of the police department.

superprincess shoot at the range every chance you get. Wait, did you say you got a gun yet or not? Well if
you have one try and practice. My CCW Permit took me 7 weeks to get. If you get it under 6 weeks that is fast.
Also look at videos online about gun safety, gun accidents, and proper shooting technique.

Have you found a cheap source of practice ammo? I've yet to find any in bulk.

It has become a statistical fact that crime goes down as the number of CCW permits are increased. True almost without exception. There are some pockets that have different history, but overall crime is definitely reduced. It puts to the lie that allowing CCW will mean blood on the streets, old west movie violence etc.

Try AmmoToGo.com :neo:

There are several places on the net to buy ammo at good prices. Ammo, like so many other things, depends on who has what on sale. I have bought from this place Link Removed several times. If you watch, they offer free shipping which really helps. I am fortunate that a LGS offers real food prices most of the time. They buy in bulk lots and pass it on.

Tales from a Ship

Somewhere in the beautiful
Carribean ocean
Our lovely princess was
captured by a smile
Her father didn’t notice all
of the commotion
These pirates had plans to
carry her to the Secret Isle

Dear Father, Please come
and save me quick
I am being held prisoner
on this creaky old ship
These criminals seem to know
every trick
There is a skull and crossbones flag
with a rip

The flamboyant pirate is a dead ringer
for Johnny Depp
with a squawking parrot sitting
on his shoulder
He is chatting with me and doing
a dance step
I will have to take them out with
my .50 Cal English Flintlock
If these scoundrels get any
bolder

After five days travel and arriving
at the Secret Isle
The weather was perfect and so was
everyone's mood
Our princess was still beautiful and
arriving in style
There was so many people and there
was so much food
The pirate had taken her to this
amazing party

Just going to add in my .02 as far as a pistol. I personally carry a XD-40 sub-compact. Now, one of my main reasons for going with the Springfield was the grip safety. It gives me a bit extra confidence that the gun isn't going to do anything I don't want it doing, while at the same time I don't have to think about it at all if I need to draw and shoot quickly.

I dislike carrying anything smaller than a .40, but as many have said, find what shoots well for you. For me the .40S&W and .45ACP are great, but those might not work for you.

Thanks for sharing, the .40 and .45ACP are larger than the 9mm right??? I am really new at this, my comfort level isn't developed enough to handle the larger calibers. Do you think the gunshow will be the best place to make a purchase???

Yes they are both larger. In general the .40S&W is usually thought of as a compromise between the power of the .45 and the mag capacity of the 9mm.

For pistol rounds from smallest to largest (of what I consider "the typical self-defense calibers") you have: .380ACP, 9mm, .357SIG, .40S&W, .45ACP

By most accounts ANY of those rounds will get the job done provided you do your part. Ignore what people say about one caliber being better than another... it's far more important you find what works for YOU. I like the .40S&W and .45ACP rounds personally, and probably will like the 10mm whenever I get to try it. Other people swear by 9mm, which I find to be over-penetrating.

As far as where to get your pistol, a gunshow is GREAT for getting the feel of a lot of different models. Figure out what model feels best in your hand FIRST. It does little good to decide on a specific brand/cartridge size if the firearm doesn't fit your hand. AFTER you've got the model, THEN figure out what caliber you want it in. My personal recommendation is to go with the largest caliber you can comfortably shoot accurately, but that is by no means the only way to look at it. If you find the gun you want at the show and the price is good, go for it... if you can deal with being unarmed for a few more days shop around for the best price. One advantage you may find with a gun show is that you MIGHT not have to deal with a background check and be possibly delayed if the person at the table is not an FFL. If that's the case you can get your gun then and there rather than waiting a day or two for it to go through.

They usually charge more for card purchases if applicable.

Cash is easier and more negotiable at gun shows IMO

superprincess you can always buy with a credit card from BudsGunShop.com online. I purchased a gun from Buds and had no problem. IMHO I still believe a Bersa Thunder .22 would be an excellent purchase, then later buy a Bersa Thunder .380. Both are the same size, weight etc, so switching from the .22 to the .380 would be smooth.

But whatever you decide I'm sure you will do well.

Hi princess, I dont know how the gun shows operate in NC, but here the shows are no deal at all, in fact at time your likely to pay more, depending on what you want, I assume you want a good gun that wont cost a fortune, easy to operate, shoot, clean, the Glocks are tough to beat, for you I would suggest a Gen 3 G-19 its a 9mm, good mag compacity, very easy to use, the G-23 is the same gun in 40 cal, just a touch more recoil, but not bad, another goos choice for the money is the Springfield XD9 subcompact, a little shorter than the G-19, but has a good feel, if you have no gun shops there that you can trust, cluzner suggested Buds, go to there websight and ck out what they have, shipping is free, it just has to be shipped to a dealer, and you pay them there tranfer fee and backround ck, and I can all but garranty it will be cheaper than buying at a gunshow, there is another possable way to get something and not get screwed, I have to find his websight, I will PM you
