Thanks eagleeyes, at this point I am not sure exactly which one I wish to own. Maybe next month when I go to the gun show. It should be exciting, I have never been to one before. The class and instructor were both great and this might sound strange, but I actually enjoyed it.
 
i think i'm going to enjoy my class tomorrow too..it will be a long day but a good one
i'll let you know what i learned ......

Thanks SGB, so with a ccwp you can purchase as many as you want. I saw one of the pics you posted, it looks like you are really prepared. :)
 
It all comes down to certain things:

How much you have to spend on a carry gun.
What you think feels good in your hand.
A new shooter should not get to small of a gun unless it's a .22 maybe.
A real small .380 or 9mm might have to much recoil and be to snappy to shoot well.
Something with a barrel around 3.5 inches gives you enough gun to hold on to, yet will conceal well.
What type holster will you use? In the Waistband, a Bra holster, shoulder holster or some other?
Purchase a good gun belt when you can, at least have some sturdy belt for holster and gun.
Whatever you buy, shoot it at the range till you have at least 300 rounds thru it before carrying it.
Use good ammo for carry and make sure your gun fires that ammo well.

Thanks cluznar, this is very good advice. The 22 is most likely what I will buy first. It was easy for me to load and shoot. But it doesn't seem like it would be good for concealed carry. Do you think so???
 
superprincess: (I get a kick out of your monicker) :) I haven't shot the little Ruger, so I can't really give a good opinion, but I can generalize. Small handguns are difficult to shoot well. I have heard that the long trigger stroke on the Ruger is a handicap. Further, the short barrel doesn't let the powder burn to give it full power so the bullet, although a 9mm luger, only has the same energy as a 380. I would recommend the Bersa. I own one and frequently carry it in a pocket holster when my preferred CCW is too awkward. My preferred is a Colt 45acp.

Don't ignore revolvers. They are easy to operate and very reliable. Contrary to some folks opinion, the 38spcl is an excellent choice.

Practicing with a 22lr is a great idea. You can shoot a lot to become proficient and confident, then shoot your carry gun to a proficient level. Sometimes you'll get discouraged, but keep working at it.

I can tell by your attitude that you will be a good shooter. Cheers.
 
Thanks JimPage, I am glad you agree the 22 would be best for practice. I certainly need alot and my goal is to purchase a membership at the local range and practice often. The colt 45acp isn't for me, I don't want to go with a 45 caliber. The ones I just now saw on the net, were very nice. The 9mm would probably be the best. There seems to be alot to concealed carry, after hearing of all the places you cannot carry. I was pretty much wondering where you can. Thanks for your help.

Thanks MPO Southy, those words mean the world to me. The concealed carry class was a breeze. The instructor made it easy. I was very pleased with him, the lecture and target shooting. There wasn't any videos of Mayberry, Andy or Barney, but it was still good. I am going to the Dixie Gun and Knife show next month with a couple of friends. Tried purchasing a ticket online and their site already says, online advance tickets are sold out. So I suspect it is going to be a really crowded event. Maybe even getting there early will be a very good idea. Thanks for your reply.
 
superprincess, Bersa makes a Bersa Thunder .22 which is the same as their Bersa Thunder .380, same size gun just different caliber. You might get the Bersa Thunder .22 and practice a lot, then get a Bersa .380 for carry.
These guns are not real expensive, but they are real reliable. Don't let anyone tell you a .380 is not good enough either.
Now-a-days there is some really nice defensive ammo to use in the .380 which does a great job. I have full trust in my Bersa Thunder .380 when I carry it.

Take your time and learn to shoot well, you will do fine.

Thanks cluznar, your suggestion is very good. Definitely the 22 for target practice sounds like a great idea. I am not sure now if I want a .380 or a 9mm. I suppose the .380 would be better for carrying concealed. I know some .380s you can carry cocked and locked, is this a good idea???
 
if my name is called as winner of the giveaway princess and for some reason i never make it back from my trip i want you to have the ruger lc9 with the crimson trace and a belt and the holster.....i want justboxin to get the home safe because he has small child in his home........my son to get the vehicle safe and the other gun belt as he could use that and really does need a decent sturdy belt i think he would want the black one ....and lukem to include the rest of the goodies away in his next giveaway

lol wow no i haven't seen that one!!!! bet it has a hellova recoil too and hard to conceal as well but wow what a home defense that would be !!!!!!!
 
i don't know but i haven't seen anyting like that at our local gun show but i didn't stop to look at every table or gun either as it was a big show with many tables and even the small gun show i went to about two weeks ago i didn't see one like that but saw some interesting guns none the less.......
i'd name that one double trouble lolz
