The Best all round handgun

I'll take the PF9 keltec, with the .22lr conversion unit from Twisted Industries. There's lots more need/use for a pocket gun than for some big, heavy clunk that nobody actually ccw's very much, if at all.. Even the military, 60 + years ago, not concerned with ccc, developed the lw Commander. In hot weather, the gov't model is too much, and in bad weather, you have to fight thru the outer coat and your concealing garment, so much for 'fast draw". :-) even if I start 'hands at sides", I can beat such a belt gun draw, using a little 9 mm in a front pants pocket. and in nasty weather, where are your hands likely to be, hmm? certainly, nobody is going to notice if your hands are in your pockets! that's about a full 1.5 seconds (7 hits on target) of advantage, in bad weather.

you can always compete, hunt, or plink with your ccw gun, but you can't put a gm 1911 in your pants pocket, ever! :-)

Although I don't have it anymore, my vote goes to the Springfield XDM I used to have. The trigger pull on it was awesome!

My vote goes with the Springfield Xd 45acp. I've seen and heard of people who have trouble with the Xdm going into battery and that isn't acceptable for me at all.

Me I am a Ruger fan SR40C. Buddy of mine was showing me his Sig224 very nice carry gun. Best gun: whatever you are carrying at that moment!

What do you think is the best all round handgun? If you could only have one.
Do not say 1911, be specific with make model and cal.

Not only for concealed carry for personal defense.
But it must also be able to hold off a pack of zombies.
Smooth and flawless.

like this to start off:

Heckler & Koch HK45 .45auto
Springfield XDm 5.23 comp .45auto
Freedom arms MODEL 97 .45 Colt
Remington 1911r1 Enhanced .45auto

What do you all think?

The one that fits comfortably in your hand, that puts a large whole in the target, that fits comfortably on your person, that is controllable as far as recoil is concerned, and the one that you can get readily available ammunition. In other words, the best all around handgun is different for every person. If one handgun ruled, then we wouldn't have so many makes and models floating around. Same is true for motorcycles and so many other items of merchandise.

There is no such thing as a best all around handgun. There is only the best handgun for a persons specific needs. People are too different for one handgun to be best for all. Some people can not handle recoil, some can. Some people prefer revolvers, others semi-autos. It all depends on your shooting preferences and needs.

I thought you were a big fan of the super hot ".32"?

The power of [Beretta] is a curious thing
Make a one man weep, make another man sing...

The Beretta M9 / 92 is one of my very favorite 9mm handguns. As many may know, the Beretta M92A1, a variant of the same sidearm issued to the US Military: the Beretta M9.

What do I like about it?

  • The weight makes recoil extremely manageable.
  • The capacity.
  • The trigger, yes, I know...but I like it.
  • Double action is a hard pull, SA after that is just fine.
  • Reset point is very nice.

What do I not like about it?

  • The Beretta "up is on, down is off" safety takes some getting used to.
  • The lock up system is different, but workable.
  • It's not quite as easy to take down as my SIG P226, etc.

But all in all, definitely one of my favorites!

Here's my "Close Up!" video of the pistol, followed by a link to the longer review I did on it.

Springfield Armory XD-S .45acp and a spare mag, or four. A real joy to put in your pants...with a NateSquared Pro IWB holster.

Thin is in. Score a big bore. Your attacker won't love you for it!

I would choose the Springfield XD .45 5" tactical model although I own the 4" model. My next gun will either be the XD .45 Tactical with the compact grip or the XDM .40 4.5" full size grip 16+1 in a .40 hell yeah rock on Springfield Armory !!!

I'll second this and, since it is not for concealed carry, with my 33 end. magazine +1 in the chamber.

Oh, how unsafe...one in the chamber :-) .

Like the prosecutor pointed out, you carry like George Z with one in the chamber. "Ready to go" (which should make him guilty for sure):fie: This only shows your bad intentions!:sarcastic:

For CCW I prefer the Bersa Thunder .380 or the Thunder .32 they are slim and conceal well while being dependable and accurate. For range/home defense I like the Beretta M92 9mm for it's capacity, accuracy and dependability. I would not use the safety on any of these because of the long first trigger pull.

:victory:

I love my Glock 17 as well.Cant wait to get a Glock 19 and 26 to keep it company :)
