Pistols stolen from my vehicle

The reason I bought a SAFE :

Came home for lunch one day (which I never did) and found a guy in my house.... who had all of my guns piled up in the living room, among other things, he was planning on hauling out the back door. Ironcially..... chased him..... but didn't catch him. However ... Police were quickly in the area and I could ID the guy well, since I was within 5 ft of him at one point ... face to face. The numerous burglaries in the area that had been occurring, stopped after he went to jail that day . Ready for this .... he was wearing a shirt, etc. for the telephone company, and worked for the telephone company..... so people didn't suspect him of anything ..... when he walking around houses , "checking the telephone lines".

My first action was a safe inside a very well locked and secured closet.

An FBI agent here ..... got his handgun, AR, and a brief case stolen out of his car at his home. Our area is full of people involved in law enforcement, the courts, probation, etc. Probably 1/2 the town is . It's not a place for a thief to thrive and not get caught.

I have a small gun vault cable locked to the seat post under the back seat of my truck.

It will only hold 1 gun though maybe 2 if they were small .380 types...

I also agree about the cablelocked metal gun safe. I have them in both my vehicles and they even have the same key. Another thing that I do is buy a gun magnet (quickdraw or something like that) and hide it in an area that I can get too it pretty quick but that a person pressed for time would not look. Im not going to tell where I hide mine in an open forum, but if you would like to know PM me.

Having a SUV sucks, I have a cable lock box and have used it when I can not carry. I just bought a new SUV and installed a center console vault. I liked the idea and it appears to be a safe place to store other valuable items. It took me longer than the 10 mins to install, but again I like the concept.

i use a thick bike cable i lock through the trigger guard to the metal frame of my back seat it's safe there and it perfect size to not let the trigger engage either whilst locked for extra measure .......i did that whilst lodging one weekend at ocala national park paralounge event and before i made the drive back i strapped it back on my hip ......not even the passenger was aware i was carrying and when we unloaded our drums and coolers and stuff i just went back to the truck to lock up the firearm without anyone noticing ..i felt comfortable the gun was going to be safe locked up well and it's a great lock and much thicker than the thin cables those gun safes have ........just an idea you might want to consider

sometimes ya just can't get out of going to court in which i don't carry my gun with me or the post office ....which sucks but until we can change those laws but i don't think that will happen unfortunately

Between 2005 and 2010 1.4 million guns were stolen. Lots of bad guys running around with good guns out there.

:help:

Post office? Nothing you can do there that you can't at the UPS store. PO boxes, mail retrieval and obviously package pickup and delivery. Courts? Hmmmm......like I said, its real easy to stay away from courts. Don't break the law!!!:smile:
i went recently to try and fight a cam scam ticket and some whacko tenant i had to throw out tried to sue me so seems most americans get a day in court for some ridiculous thing sooner or later ......divorce court is a biggie too lolz

Like this? I have cut a similar size cable just to see what it would take. It took a regular size pair of dykes and one squeeze with both hands.

If you need to leave your gun in a vehicle on a regular basis, I would look for something a little stronger, even if you need to bolt it in the trunk or rear of your vehicle.

Sorry to here about you loss. Years ago someone broke out the window on my truck and stole a nice, new heavy coat. I felt violated and extremely angry for a month but it does pass. As for firearms, it they are not holstered on my body, they are either in a safe in my home or temporarily in a cabled safe in my vehicle. The vehicle safe is a deterrent... a determined/prepared thief would probably get my gun but an opportunistic thief would not. I didn't suggest bolting the safe to your car because, in my case, I drive a leased vehicle and will be turning into the dealership next year. If you own your car, buy a good safe and bolt it down. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Tuffy security products makes a great console or lockbox for your vehicle. Secure and a thief won't have time to get into it if it is properly secured. Look at the generic fit consoles, trunk storage or under seat lock boxes. I have one in every vehicle I have. They aren't cheap but you'll never be calling to say your gun was stolen. Window smashed maybe but they'll never get in during a casual smash and grab.

If your safe is in the trunk, don't you have to, at some point, unconceal your ccw to lock it up?

Doesn't matter where the safe is. At some point you are going to have to pull your piece to secure it.
Which is why I really hate ordinances that restrict where we can carry. The whole idea is stupid to me.

Ahhhh man I'm am so sorry for the lost of your weapon, I have a console steel vault in the console of my truck to keep everything secure.
