Laser

I have a Ruger SR40C and have been thinking about getting a laser for it. However, I don't know what fits this particular weapon. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Also, I currently use a Uncle Mikes IWB holster. Just wondering what anyone else uses and any suggestions.

Thanks

I have a Crimson Trace laser on my Kahr PM9. Check their website to see if they make one for your gun.

I have the SR9c and the Crimson Trace LG449. This is also usable on the SR40c. Only issue I have seen is keeping POA and POI lined up exactly. After firing 50 rounds I find the sight is off slightly when I had aligned before starting. This is using a bore sight prior to shooting and rechecking with the boresight after. I have not been using it heavily and hope this stops after a few more adjustments and possibly retightening to the trigger guard. The difference at 10 meters is about an inch off so not critical in a defensive situation.

A quick update - solved my issue with the CT moving after firing a number of rounds. Turns out I had not properly tightened all the screws when mounting to the trigger guard. After doing this the CT is staying on target.

Just curious, but why do you want a laser? The only situation I can see it useful is if you must shoot from an awkward position where you cannot view the sights, but putting a laser on a target and finding that spot with your eyes takes longer than just using the sights. Some people say they're a deterrant but I think "gun pointed at chest" is enough of a deterrent as it is. At night I don't want a bright red 'shoot me here' dot on my weapon and they don't have the blinding effect that a bright tactical light would have at night, I'd rather just use my night sights and preserve my own night vision. In the day the dot can get washed out depending on the background, and certainly never looks the same on different targets/surfaces and different distances so it can be difficult for your eyes to pick out quickly, hence making it slower than just putting your sights on target.

But if there's any reasons to have it that I've overlooked, besides that it looks cool, maybe, some of the crimson trace grips look nice and they don't add bulk to the weapon so I can see adding them for the (rare) occasion one would have to shoot offhand or from the ground in a fight or around cover, somewhere you can't put your eyes on the sights.

Maybe some of you can help with this addition; Red laser, green laser; What are the benefits of one over the other?
I have been looking at the ones mounted on the pistol grips; Considering adding to my Remington 1911.

Red gets lost in daylight and is hard to see. Green is easily viewed in daylight and has a use in all light situation.

Still awaiting and anticipating the receipt of my Springfield Armory XDS 45ACP. Question, does anyone know of preferably a green laser (red) if green is not available that would fit this gun and a holster that would accomodate the laser if it is rail mounted.
Getting my ducks in a row in order to avoid wait times.

Crimson trace is a great company. My dad met their CEO Lew Danielson a few weeks ago while they were both being inducted into the Engineering Hall of Fame at Oregon State University. My dad's not a real big gun guy but he was telling him that I was and Mr. Danielson offered to take me on a tour of their facility. Super excited about it. I love their products.

Hello jcreek, thanks for the reply; Can you ask him if they are planning to make a green laser for the full size 1911 with walnut grips; I just purchased one of theirs, but it was with black grips;
Still awaiting it's arrival; also are they doing one to fit the Springfield XDS 45 Compact in a green laser?
Thit is your homework for theCEO.
Thank you.

Five minutes after I posted the previous thread, I saw an ad for the Crimson Trace green lasers, and it looks like the LG453 might fit the XDS compact 45;
Can anyone confirm this.
Still waiting for someone to have this handgun in stock.

Have to agree...I can't see most people with the state of mind to switch the thing on in a SHTF situation. They're just a toy, IMO.

I have a laser on one of my handguns and I affirm everything you have said here. Also, one will shoot as one practices. If one practices with a laser, one invariably ends up naturally to depend on it. In my opinion this is a bad idea... the laser could end up not working when needed as many electrical devices end up doing... one should know one's firearm very well concerning using the sights.... also when training with a laser, one naturally tends to concentrate on a small point and could end up with tunnel vision and not see other threats. I ended up turning off the laser on my S&W revolver but I liked the feel of the laser grip on it. (It is a crimson trace laser grip on a J-frame. The grip on this is phenomenal.) I have trained in every light condition, including completely blacked out. Using a flashlight when you need light is much more useful. Also, when training in a night situation, you turn on the flashlight for just a brief moment to get on sight, then fire.

The laser is more of a "bell and whistle" in my opinion then an actual helpful tool. I cannot see myself every purchasing a laser again.

To answer the question someone asked about green versus red.... green lasers, because of their wavelength have considerable more energy than a red laser. As such, they are brighter and travel further distances. The distance factor is not a concern since over such a long distance there is bullet drop and the laser cannot possibly be in the same spot as where you will hit. However, the intensity of the green's light does help in bright light situations to see it better compared to the red laser.

I have a crimson trace grip on my j-frame. I love it and would recommend to anyone with a small revolver or pistol.

I just wish the XDS were legal in MA ! the company said they don't want to deal with MA laws...........

I like lasers. Crimson Trace is nice as it turns on without my doing anything special. LaserLyte also puts out an excellent product. You need to press the button on the LaserLyte so it is marginally slower to put into service.

I have used my laser in a couple of classes and I was very pleased. The low light drills were a deciding factor for me in that I normally can't find my sights without good light. Another benefit is that I am focusing on the target rather than my front sight. The eye can focus only at one distance at a time. The red (or green) dot on the target puts all my focus at the same distance. I also keep both eyes open which improves my peripheral vision.

If you are worried about the laser going out you still have the iron sights. The other option is to put both these lasers on your cary gun. This will give you three sighting systems. I own, use, and recommend both these systems.

There is one downside. When I miss a shot and I see the red dot dip...there is no blaming the gun or the ammo. The red dot really helps in training. I pray I'll never find out how it works in a worst case scenario.

To Austin, I also have Crimson Trace lasers on my 9mm and 380 handguns. I am awaiting the proper holster for the XDS to be able to mount the laser I purchased for it;
I have seen many posts questioning the need for a laser, but I would prefer to have one on my compact handguns, which I believe to be an added safety mechanism, especially if faced with having to take down a perp with others close by. I would not want to wound a friendly if faced with that scenario. I practice with and without the laser, and will continue to do so.
