how long is too long in the field?

God Bless Our Troops!!!
I can camp for about two weeks before I need a break from nature. That's just me. I have lived in a tent for months at a time in the military...no biggie! At what point is living in the field unsustainable? At what point does one's mind wander off and stay gone for a while?

My longest was 18 days on a hunting trip. To me that was a long stay in the wall tents. We have one 14 by 16 for sleeping, one 10 by 12 for cooking and one 10 by 12 for a dinning hall / card room. We have a wood burning stove in each. When we came off the mountain I was looking for a burger joint.

For Recreation I think 2 weeks is max for me. We went backpacking and being crammed in the little tents starts to wear on me after a while. As for a survival situation... I think the situation would be different and I could put up with it for as long as I had to.

In preparation for Y2K, a few buddies and I camped out in the woods for nearly 2 months. We lived totally "off the grid" for those two months. All of our food, water, shelter and other necessary provisions were acquired "from nature" one our initial supply of stuff began to wear out.

We didn't have any tents, but rather "hooches" that we built using various supplies obtained in the camping/hiking area.

The older I get the shorter the stay. Now days a couple of days to a week would be more than enough. I will admit I am getting soft. That is if you are talking about real camping. If you are talking about an RV then longer.

well,

i love camping, but would tire quickly off sleeping on the ground. after the usual" i am gettin' too old for this $h&!" i am ok. but i say that getting out of a regular bed too. we better get unsoft though. after the socialist has his way, we will all be living in tents. if i had a G.P. medium though.......

When you start talking to the little animals and telling jokes to yourself for entertainment, it's time to go home for a while. I plan on "Bugging In" if TSHTF, but if I had to bug out, I wouldn't mind the wilderness or alot of solitude in a retreat. I like being alone or maybe with my wife in the quiet. I guess anything can get old and become too much of a good thing, but I like being on my own and relying on myself.
