New here, but I'd have to say you gave him too many opportunities as well. My students get one chance with an unloaded gun and no chances with a loaded gun. I establish this at the beginning of the class.

You did good. When I teach a class, regardless of what level, I always start out with the 3 NRA Safety Rules. As far as those rules are concerned there are no if's, and's or but's. I also demonstrate the rules with an inert blue gun, pointing it all over the place and demonstrating how to examine your gun while still following all the rules. There will always be idiots in these classes, and as instructors all we can do is enforce safety as firmly as we can with no excuses.
