Not sure how deep the roots go there for you, but the option to move is always a real one... I don't think that I could live where freedom has been removed, controlled, or denied. NRA is always a good place to begin. Good luck.
I would start by replacing the governor. A few years ago ( I don't remember the exact year, but it might have been 2006) both houses of the Wisconsin legislature passed a concealed carry bill by large margins. After Gov. Doyle vetoed it, it fell less than five votes short of being overridden in one ofthe chambers (the Senate, I believe). The legislature is remarkably pro gun; it's the governor who's standing in the way right now.
Ah, yes, sweet Taxachussets.... land that gave us compulsory health care coverage courtesy of Romney....... lovely homeland of the Kennedy clan, those defenders of individual liberty in the face of power hungry socialists..... haven of the individual right to own and carry firearms, regardless of type, without an unconstitutional and difficult to acquire license.
C'mon, 6shooter. I might buy your statement if you were one state to the north.
Definitely start at the top with the Gov of WI. In response to Boomboy, I am also resident of the PRMA and yes we have a lousy reputation. However, we do have concealed carry. It's a start. We have a great state gun lobby GOAL, Gun Owners Action League. If not for them and the NRA, it might be worse. I'm constantly scratching my head in amazement that here I sit, in the cradle of Freedom, where it all went down.....Paul Revere's ride, Concord Bridge, The Shot Heard 'Round The World, The Boston Tea Party and....the place is now run by a bunch of Liberal Nut Jobs! At least Ted Kennedy is gone!
Do tell...Doyle is a Dim and I feel he is just being the biggest jerk around.
This is his last term in office and as far as that goes I do not feel the Dims will be in office in this state much longer.
I feel the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution should override the sates on conceal carry but my hubby straightened me out on that one.
NRA here I come along with a copy to Doyle.
In theory, that's wonderful. In practice, (in WI among others) it's a bunch of BS. Legal, yes. But you can be sure that you will be harassed by LE. If the Gov really wanted to put his money where his mouth is, he would have advocated for some sort of civil action against any LEO who harassed someone OCing without having probable cause. Furthermore, you must unload and encase before you enter a vehicle. Not very practical. The point is, you already have a right to carry in WI. You just can't conceal. You carry openly, loud and proud. There is no reason to hide your firearm if you are not up to no good. The Governor has made this clear when he vetoed the CCW bill.
Very well, let's call for a complete repeal of the CC ban and recognize the right without requiring a permit. I don't see that happening anytime soon. Permit requirements are unconstitutional as far as I'm concerned, but it sure beats their current status, and would be a step in the right direction.I will never understand why anyone would want to make it harder to exercise a right by wanting to have a permit process.
What good is putting a gun on my power chair to protect myself if I can't have it loaded.
Now I hope you can see my problem.
I do not need protection in my car, but when I like to roll around town and window shop and go to my church's church school soccer games I would like to have a little more protection than Barney Fife.
