I understand the birdshot motivation. #4 and #1 buckshot will pass through 3 interior walls. In contrast, birdshot passes through only 1. Buckshot is certainly still deadly after passing through 1, while birdshot is simply not. For comparison, 9mm passes through 4 walls and .45 ACP through 3.
I just switched from OO buck to the Remington Express #4. I live in a "townhouse" style home and penetration is a concern but I obviously want to put the person down and birdshot just ain't gonna do it.
