1st Time Carrying. Practicing in Public.

Well I'm on a discouraging day 82 in the wait for the mail to deliver any kind of news on my application. The thread got a little wild, though.

There was a question similar to your original post a couple of years ago that I answered(see link above). Another suggestion if carrying with a round in the chamber... if you're uneasy with that, load a snap cap and carry 'condition 1'. When you realize you haven't had any issues with that, no negligent hammer falls, etc, then you might trust that a live round will behave no differently.

A bad guy will be coming in loaded; we should always extend them the same courtesy.

Welcome to the forum!

First and most important buy a good gun belt.I don't care who makes it just make sure it's stiff enough to maintain a holster whether it IWB or OWB.
The printing worry you talk about will pass if you carry everyday. This feeling will pass in about a month.I heading into 15 years of carrying concealed.
I did the paperwork on my 4 th application for concealed carry and it only took 4 days from my local police chief. Now that Maine going Constitutional Carry average Joe won't have to worry about getting permit renewed.

A good belt and holster like Stetson said. Hope you are not like some of us who end up with a drawer full of holsters before you find just the right one. Practice your draw, a lot. Make sure fire arm is not loaded (just saying). . I felt strange the first time I carried legally, wondered if I was printing or not and if anyone was looking at me. No I wasn't nervous, I think I was just more aware and mindful of what people were doing around me. You quickly find that people will never notice and you will get more comfortable with it. Like many others I feel weird as h*!! when I leave home without mine. That is a very rare occurrence for me though. Congrats on your permit.

My first time carrying in public, I witnessed a motorcycle colliding with a car in front of me. I called 911 and gave a witness statement to the police. Afterward, I moved on. To say that I was aware would be an understatement.

Wow, this discussion sure changed. From a nut-case walking around in public with an empty holster (asking for disaster)(how would a bad guy know it is empty and shoots him) to a drunk General Grant to personnel attacks on posters. Hate to meet y'all in a dark alley. Time to move on..

No worries - I'm sure the holster was concealed. :triniti:

NO.
So uninterested are you that you quote the entire post so that anyone who missed it would have the chance to see it again. You have a funny way of demonstrating your disinterest. Whatever, for at least the second time your reply amounts to nothing more than, "Uh....I got nothin'." It's one of the exceedingly few honest things you've implied and/or said in this exchange, so thanks for that at least.

Blues

Blues, I don't know what we are going to do with you. Can't keep you from pissing off people with your more lucid thoughts. You are being a b a a a a a d boy!

It's Here?

That's jumping right into it.

I'm out of town, but my wife says something came in the mail today. I will check it out when I get home tomorrow.

I carried for real yesterday. I went about my day no differently than usual and there were only a couple of instances where I felt a little strange about it. I think that will be gone pretty quickly. No one notices.

 Very soon it will feel completely normal, just like carrying your wallet, keys and phone.

Thanks everybody for sharing your experiences with me. I got on this forum to see if I could get an idea of how long the wait would be on my permit processing. That spun off into discussions on the whole carrying experience. If I hadn't joined these forums, my first couple of days carrying would have been a lot less comfortable. I really appreciate the information on what to expect. The group here, as a whole, was pretty much dead on with their advice. Got some wacky, entertaining posts, too.
Good Times.
