    First Time Carrying

I have had my MN and FL non-resident CCW permits for quite some time now, but since I live in Illinois I have not had the opportunity to put them to use. For the last week I have been in Tampa, FL for work and I have carried my Springfield XD(m) 9mm every day. I purchased a Crossbreed...

    Firearm Commercial

Don't know why it surprised me, but I just saw a commercial for Henry Repeating Arms on Comedy Central. I don't ever recall seeing an ad on TV promoting firearm brands. It made me smile. . . Steve

    Indianapolis Zoo

Taking the girlfriend to the Indianapolis Zoo and wanted to know if CCW is allowed there. From what I have read, CCW is allowed in IN state parks, and the Zoo is in White River State Park. It appears OK to me. Anyone have any insight or special information to provide? Thanks, Steve

    Marlin 1894FG .41 Magnum

I am looking to buy a Marlin .41 Magnum lever gun. If anyone has one to sell or knows of one in a local gun shop I would appreciate a "heads-up." I have an FFL dealer lined up to receive the rifle when necessary. Thanks, Steve

    Finally reloading again

Since preparing every single new and used case I had in my stockpile I can finally start producing some complete cartridges. Last night I received my order of 5000 large pistol primers and I have 8 lbs of gunpowder being shipped to the house next week. By next weekend I'll be tearin' through...

    New Pistol

Up until today I have only owned revolvers. I am now the proud owner of my first pistol. I opted for the Springfield XD (m) 9 mm so both my girlfriend and I could enjoy shooting it. I also intend for it to be my carry piece once I move out of the oppressive state of Illinois. I will post...

    Progressive Press Recommendations/Comments

I have been saving some money and I am looking to buy a progressive press because I am out-shooting my single stage press. My single stage press is a Lee and I have no complaints about it at all. I have chewed through a bunch of reloaded .45 ACP without any problems, but I just don't have the...

    Case prep for NEW brass.

I've been reloading for a few years now and whenever I get a new shipment of brass I have always done a full-length resize on all of the cases. I read somewhere that this was recommended, but I wondered if it was really necessary. I only use Starline pistol brass. What do you reloaders out...

.44 Mag vs .357 Mag (knockdown power)

I think everyone would agree that a .44 magnum offers more knockdown power than .357. A .44 is also probably the bare (pun intended) minimum cartridge to carry for protection against large game (I would prefer larger). Having said that, if you haven't fired a full strength .44 magnum round...

    Scientology Commercials

I have been watching Deadly Prey on Animal planet. The episode is about bear attacks on people. Anyway, during two of commercial breaks there have been scientology commercials. I'm a little concerned about this. Anyone else? Steve

Girlfriend's first trip to the range

I don't know about how everyone else does it, but I plan to keep the XD in the safe under the nightstand with a full magazine and 1 in the chamber. I know, and my girlfriend knows, that if you take a gun out of that safe it is ready to go. The big difference I see with the pistol vs. revolver...

Girlfriend's first trip to the range

Last weekend we packed up the range bag and headed over to a nice indoor shooting range. Admittedly I am not the best shooter or instructor, but I tried my best to show her the basics. We were using my Taurus 617 and loading it with .38 specials. I went over safety, handling, loading...

    Florida Permit . . . Finally

I received my Florida Non-Resident Concealed Weapon or Firearm License today. 112 Days after they received my application (16 weeks to the day). Everyone will appreciate the quiet as I will no longer feel the need to keep everyone updated. I'm glad I will not have to do this again for 7...

Girlfriend's first visit to local gun dealer

Another first . . . I went on vacation last month and took my handguns to do some shooting while I was visiting my family. While I was gone my girlfriend told me she was upset because she had become used to having those firearms in the house. She has never fired a weapon, but she thinks she...

I am now an official holder of a CCW permit from the lovely state of Minnesota! I was in the Minneapolis area and took the required training course exactly 14 days ago today. I drove to the Washington County Sheriffs Department on Friday (12 days ago), paid my $75 fee, submitted my application...

    First AR-15 experience

Shot my first AR-15 this week. I was home visiting my family and an old friend of mine took me out to the range to help him sight in his new scope for the weapon he has been building. Can't remember the last time I had that much fun. Now I'm going to have to get my own. . .

FL is at least a month behind on permits.

I called the FL permit issuing department on Thursday and I was told they received my application packet on March 13, however they were currently working on applications received February 9. Wednesday of next week will mark the 90th day since they have received my application. According to law...

Want to Gift a Gun to an Iowan

I am going to purchase a new firearm and so I thought I would give my brother my old .357 revolver so I could get him into shooting. He is a law-abiding citizen, but I do not know if there are any ownership requirements in Iowa that would preclude me from just handing over the weapon to him...
