How did an off topic issue on a gun forum turn into such a Poo-Poo long thread?

The ever-increasing tsunami of insane religious rants, sermons, and reposts (prophecies of imminent doom for most, inane "rapture" for the "saved," demands not only that nonbelievers convert but also that believers conform their views to be consistent with the Loudest Poster's fundie interpretation of the Bible...) have driven those who want to have intelligent discussions of substance to other gun forums. I check back once every month or two to see if Luke has realized how the revival tent nonsense has killed this formerly great gun forum, but no such luck.
It is a well known fact that there are many who are anti-religious today and take exception to any mention of religion, in any context. I agree that there have been too many discussions, back and forth, but there is a simple way to reduce the problem. Since this is an Off Topic forum, it is fair game for any subject. For quite a number of us, religion has been a subject we like to discuss and, by the rules of the forum, we have every right to do so, just as others have the ability to interject their comments on subjects of their own choosing. I do enjoy reading some posts but, if the subject doesn't interest me, I pass it over, without comment. There are those, however, who become incensed over the mention of religion and insist on making derogatory comments and cursing of God, the Bible and Christians in general. If you don't like religion, we get it and would much prefer to not have a donnybrook each time one of us comments. When someone makes hateful comments about the Lord and our particular beliefs, we, unfortunately, do respond in kind. When we are constantly criticized for our beliefs, those doing the criticizing are attempting to deprive us of the same right to post on here as they do about their topics of choice. If I might suggest, and assuming that what I say can be understood by the biggest offenders on both sides of these posts, if you don't like religion, pass over the posts and leave us alone. If an atheist wants to post something supporting atheistic beliefs (or lack of belief), I will most assuredly pass over it without comment. If we all could make that decision, there shouldn't be any heartburn. If we can show that courtesy to atheists, shouldn't we be able to expect the same courtesy? There are two sides to this problem!
I disagree with the statement that the "revival tent nonsense" has killed this particular forum. The most destructive part is the incessant derogatory comments about religion by non-believers. It is the non-believing contingent that insists on constantly stirring up dissension against every post concerning religion and, to our shame, we have responded similarly. We can all change it if we try.
OG, it's really simple, it is like you old wrinkled wanker.... I don't want to see it, I don't want to hear about it, and I don't want it forced on anyone. In the privacy of your own home or church, paint it purple and cover it with glitter, and swing it all around....I could care less with what you do in private (which by the way your bible tells you to practice your religion, pray, etc, in private). It is a well known fact that there are many who are anti-religious today and take exception to any mention of religion, in any context. And especially when you operate under the delusion that you have the right to implement your wanker waggling rules into civil laws that are forced on everyone.
Yep, a parasite having the same principles and propensities which characterize the very nature and essence of his father the devil. His pathetic existence revolves around targeting the shortcomings of individuals and attacking the validity of the Holy Bible.XD: It would seem that your problem goes much deeper than a mere disdain for religion and has developed into a phobia that is eating on you. You can not have a "let live" attitude, you seem to think that you have to be in control and can dictate everyone's thoughts and beliefs. .
XD: You seem to think that you should be able to dictate to religious people on what they can and can't discuss on this forum simply because you don't want to see it. Now that, old son, is the height of arrogance. Quite frankly, I don't give two hoots in hades whether you like what we say or not. I (we) do not like the insults you constantly make against us and the cursing of God but we have no more control over that than you do of our comments. I would recommend that you have an ample supply of Alka-Seltzer or other heartburn medication on hand to control your problem. We have to do the same by reading your diatribe. I'm sorry, but you will have to vacate your position on Mount Olympus, we will not accept your god-like status you are trying to impose on us. We have our God and there is no way you will ever suppress Him or our belief. Shame we can't just get along with each other. Asi' es la vida.
