What Happens to Us When We Die?

This topic has been, and continues to be very interesting. Especially once got past the personal attacks. There has been a lot of information presented on both sides. I have really enjoyed this thread.

Sorry, didn't know. My mistake. Ask a pastor? He'd be the expert not me.

I've never had much patience with the "that's not for us to know" reasoning that i was given in my youth. (Raised catholic) To me, it always seemed like they were really saying "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"

When we are told to not question something, that raises all kinds of red flags to me. Faith is one thing. Blind faith is another. Blind faith is blind.

But what really is telling is your admission of your sins, that you have had it drilled into your head probably since potty training was completed. Really, how sick that religion first convinces followers that they are damaged goods, and born flawed. What a self-defeating burden and self-deprecation to go through life beating yourself up. Hell I ain't perfect, no one is, but I'll be damned if I'm going through life beating myself up over it.

Yea, I probably hit 70MPH in a 55 zone on the way home earlier, but I ain't going to beat myself up about it.

Christianity doesn't define good/bad, right/wrong, what we "ought to do"/what we do, it simply acknowledges the difference exists and that the knowledge thereof comes from a higher place/being- God.
We are flawed and imperfect; otherwise we would find ourselves in a perfect society.

I will yield to your perspective that christianity doesn't define good/bad, right/wrong, but christians sure spend a great deal of time defining good/bad, right/wrong, or more accurately who is right/wrong, good/bad, for without these christians we wouldn't have homophobia, racism, and gender inequalities and intolerance toward anyone with different world views.

If a customer wants to buy what you're selling and you'd rather ramble about something else, you'd be a fool, haha. Take his money THEN kick him out.

No one here (well, other than OG) is trying to herd people to a certain view. People can have whatever view they wish on the topic, that doesn't mean it makes sense to bring unrelated topics into a conversation. That's how crazy people communicate, shouting out whatever comes to mind regardless of whether or not it's related to the discussion being had.

If you have a view, it is yours, not mine, and I can easily let you have your view as long as you let me have mine. If you feel you have to interject into mine, then I assume you are trying to herd me into yours. Disputing my view or trying to bring me into your view seem somewhat synonymous. But that is OK, I can handle it either way. In his preceding comment, XD says that without Christians, there wouldn't be any homophobia, racism, gender inequalities, etc. I would say he is fairly well accurate and take that comment as a complement. We try to follow the word of the Lord concerning those matters and, wouldn't you know, He is against those activities. Uphold what you will, but we haven't fallen for the things which God rejects. Gee, things would be dull for you if you didn't have us to complain about.

LOL.
Really? Hate and intolerance occur because of human error; It isn't just a religious phenomena.

I don't find any of that to be complimentary. Christians would do well to keep this in mind-
Galatians 5:22-23New Living Translation (NLT)

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Yes Christians should always say anything that goes contrary to the nature of God is wrong(Sin). But there is a way to point those things out in a manner consistent with the fruits of the Spirit.

Then you assume incorrectly. I am not herding you by telling you my view. I am telling you what I think, and why. I am not exerting any type of power over you, I am not forcing you to do something against your will, I am not controlling your actions. You're free to do as you wish, the fact that someone disagrees with you and dares to open their mouth about it is not "herding" you.

Your actions, on the other hand, (attempting to claim this as "your" space, discouraging those with whom you disagree from sharing their thoughts) are much closer to herding.

Anyway, there's no good reason that we can't or shouldn't discuss opposing views. Otherwise this place would be a echo-chamber, a dull and stagnant room full of parrots repeating the same things to each other over and over.

Blind faith was a rock band in 1969. Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech. That's the only blind faith I know. I see the hand of God in many things. Faith is not blind. True faith sees. And I have good reason to have lost faith in the past.

You can't prove a negative.
Sure you can: 3 - 4 = (-1)
And a double-negative is a positive: 3 -(-4) = 7
.
This logic applies to many things.
.
When one says "I don't have any money" he's saying he has no money.
When one says "I don't have no money" he's actually saying he has money (double-negative).

It is complementary only in that we are called those different names because we do stand with the Lord in opposing the sins he mentioned. It means that we will also be called bigots because we will not agree with their sins. I have no intention of going against the Bible's teachings about homosexuality and other sins simply because someone feels that their toes are being stepped on. I don't go out of my way to deliberately offend anyone, regardless of their persuasion, but I also do not want their persuasion flaunted in our faces. So, if one is disturbed by our defending the Bible's teachings, that means we are doing our bit in trying to bring them to the Lord.

Perhaps you should pay attention to what is actually going on in this country, as faux christians press their hatred into laws that govern everyone. The homophobia hysteria and hatred that is an ugly undercurrent in our society in born in the crucible of ignorance from pulpits across this country.

The KKK is deeply rooted in good old hate spewing religion. Some churches still refuse to perform interracial marriages, and in all buy bull states interracial marriages were illegal until the SCOTUS stepped in and voided those laws as unconstitutional in 1967.

Aryan Nations is a white supremacist or "white Christian separatist" religious organization founded in the 1970s, as an arm of the Christian Identity organization Church of Jesus Christ–Christian.

Many christians today still consider the female to be an inferior gender that must be subservient to man, nonsense derived from the bible, and no where else. It is taught in may churches, especially in the buy bull belt. I know a couple that believe and follow this, even though the woman is smarter, better educated, and earns more money than her willfully ignorant fairy tale following husband.

It's not just in the Bible Belt, or involving the Klan. When my sister in law got married in a Jehovah's Witness church in northern Illinois, the "priest" performing the ceremony spent the better part of 10 minutes talking down to her like she was a child who forgot to clean her room. I rolled my head around, eyeballing some of the women sitting in the pews around me, who were not JW's. You should have seen the look in their eyes. They all looked like they wanted to gouge that pricks eyes out with a sharp stick........ And I don't blame them. Just yet another F*#KED up version of Christianity. Albeit north of the Mason Dixon Line.

I'm old enough to remember that hand.

I have seen many, many people who believe what they're told simply because the person who told them wore a clerical collar.
