What Happens to Us When We Die?

God created all the ingredients in the materials that are in a pickup truck and the people that assembled it. Same for ice cream and roses.

No, the elements in the pickup, ice cream, roses, and your body were created in the crucible of dying stars billions and billions of years ago.

Everything you just said has been foretold by God. "I knew you while you were in your mothers' womb" ; time appointed to be born and to die. In all of this one can see the hand of God if you will simply open your eyes. Have I ever seen God, in person? No, have you? Have you ever seen evidence of how God can work in people's lives? Yes, and if you would be truthful to yourself, you most likely have also. It completely amazes me how hard an atheist will work to prove that God doesn't exist and, in my opinion, Jesus Christ could walk up and shake your hand and you wouldn't believe it was Him. He could show you His hands, feet and the hole in His side and you would still deny Him. OK, deny Him to your heart's content, enjoy this world and all it's temptations and sin but, one day, and it may be soon, you will be confronted with the fact that your mortal life has just expired. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Hebrews 9:27. "The day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen. Obad. 15." "By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Matt 12:37." We shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Rom. 14:10."

In so many posts I have seen God cursed, belittled and denied. Some doing so may truly be atheist and deny God. Some may just be parroting someone else just to enter into the discussion and not really give thought to what they are doing, only be one of the boys. I do sincerely believe in God and I carry a burden in my heart for those who will be lost and face the wrath of God. I, and several others on here, do truly believe and try to show the error of their ways to anyone who will listen., The Bible says that if we see our brother in sin, and do not admonish him for his error, his sin will be upon us also. Well, I have been relieved of enough of my own sins, through the grace of God, and I don't want to carry any of yours. It has been said many times that, if you don't believe in God, leave the rest of us alone to enjoy our discussions. If you want to have discussions among yourselves about why you are an atheist, have at it. I will not try to invade your space but, by the same token, you could do us the same courtesy.

This is no more "your" space than it is "our" space. This is everyone's discussion.

You gotta remember that when you tell someone to stay on topic.

I certainly will, and I hope you do the same. Straying far off-topic and thinking that you have more right to discussion than those that you disagree with are both detrimental to constructive conversation.

So is telling people to stay on topic. This isn't a class. Not a lecture. There are no forum police. Don't like a response? let it go. Trying to direct the replies is detrimental to constructive conversation.

Not really. Imagine that we're having a conversation with a gun shop clerk about handguns, but in the middle of discussion he starts telling you about what he had for breakfast. Reminding that clerk that y'all were discussing the gun you want to buy would not be detrimental to your conversation.

Well, learn something new on here everyday! And, yes, I know that every time something is mentioned about God, the same old crowd will be jumping in there to add their two cents. Not to add anything about God but to deny Him and continually belittle Him. Gee, I wonder if the mere mention of Him is so unsettling, and you are so insecure in your nonbelief, you are compelled by some unknown force to do everything you can to disrupt the conversation? I could nearly guarantee if there was a Religion forum on here, you all would be right there spreading your BS. Oh well, just another cross to bear!

Those that don't believe in any gods aren't disrupting this conversation any more than you are.

The thread is about what happens after we die. There is no reasonable or logical reason to think that some people shouldn't give their two cents just because they don't believe what you believe. That's a very childish and closed-minded way to have this thread. You're smarter than that, don't shy away from dissenting opinions.

PS- I am no more insecure in my disbelief of your god than you are in your disbelief of Zeus.

Have you even once considered that we have the same view, just from the other side of the fence? Have you any concept that while you view the bible is the end-all be-all authority, we view it as a collection of short stories and urban legends written in times of great ignorance, an ignorance that is held in far too high esteem today. Why not base your life on other works of fiction?

But what really is telling is your admission of your sins, that you have had it drilled into your head probably since potty training was completed. Really, how sick that religion first convinces followers that they are damaged goods, and born flawed. What a self-defeating burden and self-deprecation to go through life beating yourself up. Hell I ain't perfect, no one is, but I'll be damned if I'm going through life beating myself up over it.

Yea, I probably hit 70MPH in a 55 zone on the way home earlier, but I ain't going to beat myself up about it.

We're not having a discussion with a gun store worker about guns... a narrow and objective topic whereby one or all of the parties may be experts. Such a discussion is objective as it involves factual subject matter and a level of measured expertise as gained via education, training and experience.
.
We're having a discussion about what happens when we die, a broad and very subjective discussion, where no one in the discussion thread is an expert. Thus the door is open to a broad range of topics related to the thread titled "What happens to us when we die." Even back in the 80's when I taught at a small college I wanted to hear the free-flow of ideas. No idea is shut-down.
.
The thread was started by Ringo, a poster who I have enormous respect for. He posted an open-ended question and since then the direction of this discussion has flowed through 330 responses. That is exactly what's intended when a poster asks an open question... free flow. If a particular post doesn't apply to your view of this perhaps letting it go past is a good idea. One can't expect to herd everyone into a discussion obtuse to the original open-ended question.

Right, there are a broad range of topics related to this thread. Pushing the discussion into a realm that is off the topic of the thread, though, is STILL detrimental to constructive conversation.

Anyway, none of that has anything to do with the fact that this is everyone's discussion, not just those who believe in OG's god.

If you go to the main page for off topic, you will see the following, posted by the people that run this forum.

[h=1]Off-Topic[/h]Below you will find a list of discussions in the Off-Topic forums at the USA Carry - Concealed Carry Forum. The Off-Topic forum Anything NOT related to firearms and concealed or open carry. This can be about sports, jokes, anything that stays within the rules of the site.

Seems pretty clear to me that just about anything can be discussed.

Reminding the clerk? Like telling him to say on topic? You're in his store. If you don't like his comments then swallow or leave. Remind him? If he feels insulted he might throw you out on your ear.

Yes, reminding the clerk. Of course you could leave, but that would be detrimental to the conversation.

I don't know what kind of strange world you live in where it's normal that people ramble off about topics unrelated to the conversation in which they are participating, but in my world people generally find it detrimental to a conversation to waste time talking about things unrelated to that conversation.

I can't believe I'm having to explain to an adult how a simple conversation works.

It's not a simple conversation. It's a free-flow of ideas in an "off-topic" forum where an open-ended question is being debated. If you were in my store and told me to stay on topic... well... you wouldn't be in the store anymore. Most people I know would feel the same way. My world was always NYC where 8 million people want to say something. Can't run around herding everyone into a particular view. All ideas and comments are welcome until it resorts to name calling and insults. Dad refused to allow discussions on religion, politics or money at the table for good reason. I can imagine telling my father to stay on topic. I can picture the look on his face before I go flying.

If a customer wants to buy what you're selling and you'd rather ramble about something else, you'd be a fool, haha. Take his money THEN kick him out.

No one here (well, other than OG) is trying to herd people to a certain view. People can have whatever view they wish on the topic, that doesn't mean it makes sense to bring unrelated topics into a conversation. That's how crazy people communicate, shouting out whatever comes to mind regardless of whether or not it's related to the discussion being had.

Keep in mind, I've not once told anyone participating in this open-ended discussion to stay on any particular topic. There's no reason that we need to keep going over how it's an open-ended discussion and that people can say what they want. No one (well, not me, anyway) is saying anything to the contrary. Of course, you're free to keep harping on about it, though.

. Nostradamus predicted many events that have come to pass, depending on your interpretation of his writings. The bible is no different.
Incorrect. Only biblical prophecy is numerous and specific while proving to be 100 percent accurate. In response, it is often asked whether the sixteenth-century prophet Nostradamus also made many accurate predictions. Critics argue that most of his prophecies are vague and ambiguous, and, therefore, they can refer to more than one person or event. His few specific or dated prophecies, moreover, have proven to be consistent failures.
